Brother and Sister (Closed for Titanium)

Cold somehow managed to surpass the walls of the apprentice's den and seep into every cat's fur as they slept. Swooppaw awakened shivering, his paws numb with the bitter cold. Stepping out of the den, he realized the prey pile was frightfully empty. Sighing, his mind automatically turned to asking Birchpaw to patrol with him. But no, she was still stuck in the medicine den and he couldn't change that. He would have to go with his other best friend, this one also being his sister. He picked up a scrawny bird and carried it back to the den, even the slightly warmer weather of the den being comforting. His green eyes searched for Robinpaw, quickly finding her sleeping body. Nudging her awake, he placed the bird down in front of her, offering a smile.
"Hey, the prey pile is real low so I guess we're going to have to share this. Want to go catch something after we eat? It'll be fun and help our clan," Swooppaw suggested, taking the smallest possible bite out of the bird. He would have to ask a warrior to leave, but he doubted that anyone would refuse. They needed as much prey as possible, and even just two apprentices catching something was better than nothing.

Robinpaw awoke at her brother’s touch, though she didn’t open her eyes straight away. ”Huh? What......” she muttered, still half asleep. The bitter winds of leafbare soon made her eyes fly open. She shivered slightly in the cold, then looked up to Swooppaw. She opened her mouth wide in a yawn, climbing to her paws and stretching. She smiled at her brother. ”Sure. The Clan could use some more prey.” she grinned. Robinpaw took a couple of small bites of bird, glancing over her brother’s shoulder at the pile. It was pitifully low. It seemed he was right, they really needed to catch something. She licked her lips, nudging the rest of the hird towards him. ”Go ahead, eat a little more.” Robinpaw waited until he was finished. ”Ready to get going?”

"Yep. I'm ready," Swooppaw replied, taking a few last bites of the bird. He still felt hungry, but the bird had been reduced to bones and feather, and the prey pile was too small to take more when he had already eaten. Basically everyone in the camp deserved more prey than a healthy young apprentice. Though his own and all the other apprentice's body made the den warmer, he couldn't just sit there all day, specially when he had just agreed to a hunting patrol with Robinpaw.Wincing from the cold as he got to his feet, he then trotted out of the den. After quickly asking some npc warrior for permission and receiving it, the apprentice made his way to the camp's exit. He turned his head to make sure that his sister was following him, always paranoid that he would be left alone. "Where should we go first?"

Robinpaw followed her brother from the warm den, immediately regretting her decision in the cold. Well, the Clan has to be fed somehow, right? She followed Swooppaw to the exit and almost ran into him when he stopped. She considered the question for a moment. ”Anywhere that isn’t Sunningrocks.” she decided after a small pause. That place always scared her, ever since the other apprentices and warriors returned with heavy wounds.

"How about near the Great Sycamore? I've head mice like to hide in it's roots," Swooppaw proposed, satisfied with his idea. He deeply agreed with Robinpaw's words. He was glad that she hadn't been at the fight, she might have gotten hurt like Birchpaw. And maybe she would have been as deeply disturbed at the amazing thrill of fighting as he had been. Either way, it was a good thing she had stayed at camp. He began padding in the direction of their destination, hoping that there would be some easy catches there. He wanted to feed his clan, but didn't want to spend any more time in the cold than he had too.

Robinpaw nodded her agreement. ”That sounds good to me.” She padded along behind him, her thin fur fluffed up as much as she could against the cold. Hopefully there would be enough prey to help her Clan after such an awful battle. Maybe she could bring a mouse or two for Birchpaw and Shrewheart, who she knew both resided in the medicine den after the fight.

Swooppaw continued walking, his pace slowed by shivering. Hopefully he and Robinpaw could find something decent to bring  back to their clanmates. Maybe they would find a fat squirrel, and bring it back heroes! Or maybe catch an eagle! Though those fantasies seemed all too enticing, he new there was little chance of either of them happening at this time of year. He wondered what the forest was like before the fire all the warriors talked about, and when it was Newleaf. Maybe one day he would be able to see the forest looking like it's former glory. But not unless the clan survived the harsh season. Upon arriving at the huge tree, the gray apprentice sniffed at the air for prey. The scent off mouse caught his attention, and he traced it to a small brown rodent tentatively trekking away from a small hole under a root. It was alert, so this could be difficult. Crouching down, he slowly snuck towards it, hardly breathing in determination to be silent. He had to catch this. For the good of his clan. Silently, he pounced, both front claws and his teeth directed at the small creature. In it's hungry state, the mouse didn't have time to run away before his claws pierced its neck. Though it was a skinny little thing, it was food all the same. Whispering thanks to StarClan, he bounded over to his sister, cold nearly forgotten. "Robinpaw! Look what I caught!"

Robinpaw smiled when Swooppaw came back, a mouse in his jaws. It was small, yes, but food is food. ”Well done!” she congratulated him. Robinpaw lifted her head to sniff the air, her mouth slightly open to better pick up the scents. She recognised the smell of a bird, somewhere nearby. She looked around her and saw a small sparrow pecking at the ground, not too far away. Foolish bird. A grin crept onto her lips as she crouched down, moving silently over the forest floor. She pushed with her hind legs and threw herself at the bird. But the bird was too quick for her. It soared away, her paws swiping through empty air. In a last, desperate attempt to catch it, she lunged forwards, hoping to snatch it up in her jaws, but her teeth closed on empty air, a whisker away from the bird. She fell to the ground with a frustrated hiss and returned to Swooppaw, empty.

"I'm sure you'll catch one soon. We'll come back to camp with so much prey we will be heroes!" Swooppaw reassured Robinpaw when she came back empty pawed, giving her a sympathetic smile. He would have to catch something real cool this time to make up for her missing the bird. Though he knew that wasn't how it worked, it gave him a little determination that could do no harm. He scented the air once agin, this time finding a squirrel.When he had first caught one, they had still been plump, not scrawny like this one was. It was on a fairly low branch of a tree, but he still froze, remembering last time he had tried to catch a squirrel in a tree. But this branch was a lot lower and more flimsy. Plus, his clan was staring and needed food. There was no reason not to do this.He silently padded towards it, making sure he was downwind. Gathering his haunches, he leapt for it, determined to catch the creature. One of his claws hit its tail, knocking it off balance. Before it could fall of the branch, he snapped its neck with his jaws, killing it quickly. The dead creature n his mouth, he fell backward, hitting the snow a little hard. He groaned, but still thanked StarClan before getting up and trotting back over to his sister. "Ow... That hurt. But at least I caught something."

Robinpaw blinked gratefully as Swooppaw reassured her. She was never the best hunter in the clan, but she could usually catch something, at least. Her breath caught in her throat as her brother fell into his back. She rushed over, meeting him halfway. "Hurt, did it? I'm not surprised!" She was still a little worried, but she sternly reminded herself that she had to catch some food. She tasted the air once again for prey, and smelt mouse. She saw the little white creature not too far away. She crouched down and slowly crept towards it, her ears pricked for the slightest sound. She threw herself forwards, and the mouse ran. Robinpaw was quicker, and she caught up to it after a shirt cause. She swiped out with her paw, tripping it up, then bit he back of its neck, swiftly ending it's life. She silently thanked StarClan, trotting back to Swooppaw with a triumphant expression on her face. She had caught it!
