A Friendly Little Patrol (Now closed)

Shrewheart padded out of the warrior den, craving a little excitement. Was Sharptooth around here anywhere? She was the perfect cat too bring his spirits up. They would hopefully be have kits together soon. But for now, what he needed was action. Maybe a a nice fight, or even a hunting competition would be nice right now. Not hungry, he walked right past the prey pile and to the entrance of camp. About to leave by himself, he realized two things. First off, he hadn't checked to see if his mate was available. And also, it would be possible to have a hunting contest without other cats to compete against. Gazing over camp, he decided to arrange a patrol. He was a warrior now, so even if this was his first time, he would be allowed to lead a patrol.
"Hey, does anyone want to go on a patrol with me?"

Swooppaw rushed out of the apprentice's den when he heard a patrol being offered. Could this be a way to make a new friend? For a second he wondered if his other friends would get mad at him for not hanging out with them. But they all would understand, right? Hesitantly, he approached the older warrior. Taking a deep breath, he offered himself. "Hey, can i come with you?"

Robinpaw heard a rustling sound, of the moss moving. Sounded like an apprentice leaving. She sleepily opened one eye to see her brother rushing away. She flicked an ear and stretched her mouth wide in a yawn, slowly getting to her paws. Robinpaw shook herself, trying to wake herself up a little. She peered out of the den to find her mentor, Shrewheart, and her brother, Swooppaw, by the entrance. Her ears perked up. Maybe they were going to patrol! Robinpaw quickly rushed away, eager to get out of camp before someone told her to clean the elder den. Honestly, she shouldn't have to do that! Robinpaw flicked her tail as she arrived at the exit to camp. "Are you going on patrol? Can I come with you?" she asked quickly, excitement shining in her green eyes.

Birdflight ran up to Shrewheart with a grin. "Hey! May I come with you Shrewheart?" the calico she-cat asked happily. She felt too jolly to be cooped up in camp. She also wanted to spend time with her clan-mates.

Birchpawheard the call for a patrol and bound over. Every trip out of camp was a chance for adventure! I'll come!" she meowed before beaming at Swooppaw and dipping her head to Robinpaw. "I hope we catch something good today, the piles a little low..." she glanced over her shoulder at the scraps of prey left.

"You can all come. Let's get going!" Shrewheart decided. He smiled in greeting at Birdflight as she joined. Finally they could go on the patrol they had wanted. He also was glad that Robinpaw had joined, she was a very capable apprentice. Though he was a little disappointed Sharptooth wasn't able to come, he didn't feel like waiting around for her all day long. With an air of authority, he lead the small group of cats out of camp, scenting the air for something to catch. He quickly caught the smell of a squirrel, and followed it to the little gray rodent. Crouching down, he padded towards it silently. With a single bound, he pounced and killed the creature, before picking up its body and carrying it back to the patrol.

Swooppaw grinned when Robinpaw joined, nuzzling her shoulder in greeting. Though he had many friends, her and his other littermate were his bested of friends. But as Birchpaw ran over, his smile just broadened. Not only was she already his friend, but she was a hero! He had always admired her since she saved that kit out in the cold. He kind of felt a little nervous around her, wanting her to like him even more. At Shrewheart's words, he followed the warrior out of camp. Scenting the air, the amount of scents was lower than usual. The snow made prey both scarce and harder to scent. Turning to his friends, he asked; "So, what should we catch first?"

Robinpaw gave Swooppaw a little wink as she was greeted by her brother. She smiled as Birchpaw came along. The other apprentices were on good terms with Robinpaw. She headed out of camp with the others, and watched her mentor in awe as he caught the first price of prey. "Well done, Shrewheart!" she congratulated him, as quietly as she could so she wouldn't scare away any prey.  Turning to Swooppaw, she flicked an ear. Robinpaw considered his question. "Whatever we catch first, I suppose." she replied. With a subtle flick of the tail, she lifted her muzzle and scented the air. Prey was scarce this Leafbare. With a soft, barely audible sigh , the young apprentice walked forwards a couple steps, before greeted with a new scent. Some type of bird. She raised her tail, gesturing for quietness, and she slowly stepped forwards. A small sparrow came into sight, pecking at the ground. She moved downwind of the creature, and with unsheathed claws, leapt into the air. The bird tried to fly away, but ended up flying straight into her paws. Both the apprentice and the bird fell to the ground, and Robinpaw swiftly bit the sparrow where she guessed the neck was. Once it's life had been ended, she trotted over, victorious. The bird in her jaws, she returned to the patrol and placed the bird in front of her, with a self-satisfied smile.

Birdflight began to stalk a bird. She was smiling to herself. Birdflight was thinking of how she hunted with her apprentice Toadpaw and an owl came after them. She shook all thoughts from her head and began to focus at the task at hand. She stared directly at the unknowing creature. After a few moments, the she-cat pounced. She quickly caught the feathered creature and soon hid it. The calico warrior then began to search for more prey.

Birchpaw got to work, hopefully, she'd catch something good. Even the prey seemed to be scrawny. She heard some shuffling nearby and moved closer to the ground, scenting the air and trying to get past the scent of snow and her clanmates. A dusty colored tail flicked rapidly and she slowly crept closer to it. She gasped as it paused what it was doing and began running up a tree. Birchpaw rushed after it and her claws caught it's tail and dragged it down the tree, giving a swift bite to its neck.

Shrewheart nodded in acknowledgement to Robinpaw's praise, grinning as he tossed the squirrel into a hidden crevice in the snow. As his apprentice caught a bird, he nodded in congratulations to her. Any successful catch was another step towards becoming more respected. Now that he thought about it, leading a patrol did that too. Now even more determined, he sniffed the air. Though the water from the snow washed away most scents, he could just barely scent something. Following it a little further than last time, he a mouse at the base of the tree. It seemed more alert than what he hoped for, but beggars can't be choosers. He was sure he could still catch this. Crouching down low, he stalked it, silently, before pouncing. Though the mouse immediately tried to dart away, the brown warrior was too quick, killing it with a swift blow to the neck. Picking it up, he trotted back and added it to where he was keeping the squirrel.

Seeing both Robinpaw and Birchpaw catch something before he did, Swooppaw decided to catch something impressive. Catching the scent of what seemed like a big enough creature, he trailed it, trying to find his potential next catch. Though he was a little further away from the patrol than he should be, he finally found the source of the scent. He slid into his best hunting crouch, praying to StarClan that he would be able to catch this. The squirrel seemed big enough, and that would probably make it easier to catch. With a deep breath, he lunged for the creature, just barely managing to bite down on its spine, then killing it with his paws. It wasn't the cleanest catch, but it was still food. Whispering thanks to StarClan, he proudly picked up the squirrel and carried it back to the patrol.

Robinpaw flicked her tail as she watched the others. They seemed to be hunting well, even in Leafbare. She sniffed the air, not scenting any prey so far. Her face turned into a huge grin as she looked to her brother. That squirrel was huge! "Nice catch, Swooppaw. That ought to keep the Clan well fed." she congratulated, gazing at the large price of prey. Now, it was time for her to catch something interesting. She slowly padded forwards, looking all around for prey, when the scent of some kind of animal. She had never smelled that before... Cautiously, Robinpaw padded forwards until she saw it. A rabbit. She licked her lips and crept closer silently, before throwing herself forwards by propelling her hind legs. It just escaped through her claws. Robinpaw breathed a sigh, and turned to go back to the patrol, empty paws.
