Fawnpaw nodded, crept around the edge of the water, stepping lightly, and looking for a little wisp of silver. She spotted a minnow, and judged where it was gonna go. She but her unsheathed paw quickly in front of the fish. As it swam into her claws, she swiped it, killing it. Pulling it onto land, she couldn't help but grin broadly.

"Nice catch!" Nutfur purred proudly. StarClan must have blessed her with such as quick learner as an apprentice. Her first catch had involved crashing into a bush, and the first time she had caught a fish she had fallen into the river. Fawnpaw had a lot cleaner of a catch than she had at that age, and she was just as determined. Not knowing exactly how to respond to this, she decided to have her do it once again, to make sure that the apprentice's original catch wasn't just dumb luck. If she still caught it the second time, they might move on to frogs, which were harder.
"Though that was an amazing first catch, I want you to do it again, okay?" the warrior explained. Once again her hazel eyes searched the water for a flash of silver, bringing down her claws just in front of the unfortunate fish. As expected, the minnow had no time to react before the force of her claws hit it.

Fawnpaw nodded. A little surprised she was able to already catch a fish. She surveyed the stream again, watching for any minnows. Once she saw one, she did exactly what she did before, and quickly placed her unsheathed paw a couple whisker-lengths from where she estimated the fish was heading. It once again swam right into her paws. She pulled it out."I c-caught another one!" she gasped.

"Great job! You're doing way better than I did as an apprentice," Nutfur praised, a feeling a little upstaged. She grinned and shook her head in near disbelief at the natural skill that Fawnpaw possessed. Maybe she wouldn't be quite as good at catching frogs. If she was, than she was basically warrior material already. She looked at their growing pile of five fish, and decided that that plus two frogs would be a good amount to take back to camp. "I'm going to show you how to hunt frogs now. These are a bit harder to catch. You have to silently stalk them, then pounce. Watch."
Scenting the air, she caught the slimy scent of a frog. After following it a few paces, she spotted her dark green target. Silently, she slid into a hunting crouch and approached it, hoping to be able to catch it. Bending her knees, she sprang for it, but it was able to dive into the water on time. Irritably she turned back to her apprentice. "And make sure that it isn't to close to the water. Any questions, or shall I attempt to demonstrate again?"

"I think I understand," she replied. She tasted the air until she caught scent of a frog. She got into the crouch Nutfur did, and stealthily stalked the frog. Just when she was about to pounce, she stepped on a leaf and the frog sprung into the water. "Aw, frog dung." she muttered.

"Nice try. As I said, this is difficult even for me. Just make sure to observe your surroundings," Nutfur explained, scenting the air again. Now she had a sudden feeling of determination. She needed to catch a frog so that her apprentice could learn how. She detected the scent of a frog and spotted the swampy green creature next to one of the shallower pools, its large eyes seemingly looking in every direction. That is when she realized that in order to catch this, she needed to find its blind spot. And that was the center of its back. She slid low into the hunters crouch and silently stalked towards it, her jaw set in determination. After she had gotten close enough, she pounced, first hitting it with her claws then snapping its neck. Gingerly, she picked it up and carried it back to Fawnpaw.
"You have to be able to creep up from exactly behind them, and use both your claws and teethe. Want to try again?"

Fawnpaw nodded, more determined. "Creep up right behind it.. Use claws and teeth.. got it."
She perked her ears, and sniffed the air. She caught scent of another frog. Dropping into the crouch, she slowly creeped around to where she was right behind it. Though she didn't make any noise, the frog leaped away. "Wha-?" She was cut off when an owl popped up out of nowhere. She leaped back, letting out a squeal of surprise. She ran to her mentors side. "W-What do we do?"
