Slatekit and Sagekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Ashstar leapt onto the Tallrock. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" she yowled commandingly.

Slatekit's pelt was groomed to perfection as he padded out into the clearing. His head was held high and his chest puffed out proudly. Today was finally his day. Despite all of the troubles with his father, Slatekit still looked up to the warrior, whether or not Smokepelt was deputy. He cast a quick glance around, trying to find the familiar grey and white pelt. After a moment, the young tom settled back on his haunches. Any excitement was calmly contained and hr patiently waited for his grandmother to begin the ceremony.

Sagekit followed after her brother. However, her small paws dragged lightly across the ground. She was visibly less excited than him. The comfort of the nursery was something she would miss. However, Sagekit knew it was time for both of them to move on. She noticed Slatekit glance around and recognized the disappointment in his eyes. The she-cat shot her brother a soft and reassuring smile as she sat down to press her pelt up against his.

Ashstar nodded approvingly at the young kits. Her grandkits. "Sagekit, Slatekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. Sagekit, from this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Sagepaw. Your mentor will be Brindlewhisker. I hope she will pass down all she knows on to you." The leader turned her head to the next kit. A spitting image of Smokepelt if there ever was one. "Slatekit, from this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Slatepaw." She hesitated merely a second before making the decision. "I will be your mentor, and I will do my best to pass all my knowledge onto you." She leaped down from the Tallrock to touch noses with the small tom.

Sagepaw's eyes widened when she heard her name called. She was shocked to hear that Brindlewhisker was to mentor her. The newly named apprentice glanced over at the impressive warrior she-cat. For a moment, she was still, not sure what to do. But as she watched her brother and his mentor, Sagepaw came to her senses. Slowly, she padded over to Brindlewhisker. There was a brief moment of complete awe as she stared at the clan deputy. After a second, the young grey and white cat stretched her neck to gently touch noses with her new mentor. Without a word, Sagepaw simply smiled softly.

While his sister was shocked with a quiet excitement, Slatepaw shifted uncomfortably. He wasn't sure about training with his grandmother. The tom respected her as a leader, but it was beyond his understanding as to why she would demote his father. Slatepaw stood up slowly as Ashstar padded over. His little pink nose collided somewhat awkwardly with the much older cat's. For once, his serious attitude was broken and Slatepaw was left flustered.

"Okay," He meowed simply, as it was all he could manage in the moment.

Brindlewhisker merely batted an eye as Ashstar announced herself as Slatepaw's mentor, head nodding ever so slightly as she did. It would be nice for both of them to take some of their time spent worrying over the whole Smokepelt and reconstruct it into something more beneficial- such as training apprentices. Rising to her paws, the she-cat quickly padded towards the newly-named Sagepaw, tail swaying behind her as she did so. Dipping her head down towards the grey little she-cat, Brindlewhisker gently touched noses with Sagepaw, eyes twinkling with amusement at the apprentice's awe-struck face. "I hope you're ready to begin your training." She murmured.
