A patrol for Frostpaw [closed]

Padding into the apprentice's den, Mudfoot gently prodded Frostpaw's side. "Frostpaw, wake up," the warrior meowed softly, not wanting to wake any other apprentices up. Tonight he would take his new apprentice on his first patrol and hopefully get some battle training in too.

Making his way out of the den and into the chilly evening air, Mudfoot sat beside the half frozen freshkill pile, waiting for Frostpaw to wake up.

Frostpaw drowsily got on his paws, and headed out of the apprentice's den. He was quickly filled with excitement, this would be his first time out of camp! Frostpaw padded over to Mudfoot, trying to stop himself from bouncing around like a kit. "Good Morning, Mudfoot" he meowed, "Where are we going? will we see the Thunderpath?"

Nodding at the apprentice's question, Mufoot turned around and headed out of the camp entrance. "We'll do some patrol around the border and then get some battle training done," the warrior meowed with a smile, keeping a steady pace for the smaller cat. "And yes, I reckon you will be able to see the Thunderpath," he added, glad Frostpaw was eager to start training. Walking through the dense forest, Mudfoot headed to the Carionplace for their first destination for the patrol. Better to check no rogues were stealing prey.

Frost paw followed his mentor through the camp wall and into the forest. The leaf-bare air was chilly and the ground grew muddy beneath his paws, but he didn't mind in his excitment. He hadn't though he would get to do battle training so early! But first, the territory. Frostpaw started jogging ahead and sniffing the air to try and scent another Clan.

Watching as Frostpaw started padding ahead, Mudfoot kept his ears perked and mouth open, just in case the apprentice missed something. Although they probably not catch another clan doing anything out of the ordinary, it was better to keep an eye out that become too comfortable with the territory. As the two made their way through the dense wooded forest, they soon arrived at the Thunderpath which was unusually quiet. Staying a good distance from it, the warrior looked to Frostpaw. "I know it's difficult over the horrid stench, but tell me what you can smell," he meowed, wrinkling his nose from the path's smell.

Stopping a few tail-lengths away, Frostpaw looked with wide eyes at the Thunderpath. The hard, black surface that stretched as far as he could see either way. The horrid stench covered all other smells, he could almost feel it soaking into his pelt. At Mudfoot's question he began to focus on it though. Frostpaw realized there were two layers to the stench, and one of them came from cats.
"I Think I can smell cats from the other side, although they smell almost as bad as the Thunderpath. Is that ThunderClan?"

Chuckling at the apprentice's reply, Mudfoot could relate to the younger cat's thought process. "Very good. You were spot on in saying that ThunderClan smell bad," he meowed with a smile. "Although I'd like to stay around and talk about those mousebrains, we should get going," he meowed, turning around and starting to head towards Highpine, their next location.

Frostpaw padded behind his mentor as they headed parallel to the Thunderpath through the forest. He kept his nose open, hoping to spot some prey and impress his mentor. The Thunderpath's stench remained stuck in his nose though and he didn't notice much else. A thought occured to him. "If the Thunderpath is the border between us and ThunderClan why would they bother coming over to steal territory and prey?" Frostpaw meowed.

Looking to Frostpaw, Mudfoot had to think for a moment before answering the apprentice who'd asked a very practical question. "Well, sometimes the prey on ThunderClan's side of the Thunderpath can become scarce during Leafbare and so them, being hungry and needing food for their clan sneak over to our territory and steal what is rightfully ours," the tom answered, glad he was able to teach the apprentice something and even more impressed by Frostpaw's eagerness to ask a question in the first place.

"Hmm.."
Frostpaw thought about this. And the warrior code. "If they didn't trespass and steal our prey, wouldn't the code obligate us to help them if ThunderClan was really starving?" That made him angry, essentially that meant ThunderClan was never ACTUALLY starving. Frostpaw saw huge pine tree peaking over the rest of the forest, and came to a stop in front of what he assumed was Highpine.

Nodding his head, it always made Mudfoot happy to see intelligent apprentices. "That's correct," he meowed as they reached Highpine. Walking a little ways away from the apprentice, the warrior marked the border. "So, do you know anything about Highpine?" he asked the apprentice, keeping his ears perked and eyes alert for anything unusual.

"Only that SkyClan likes to lurk around here." Frostpaw sniffed the air and detected the sourness of another Clan, but he couldn't tell whether it was different or the same as the one from before.

OOC: I'm confused about the exact location of highpine and the shadow/skyclan border. Does ShadowClan's territory dip across the thunderpath or is the the other way around?

"Good job!" he meowed with a smile. "Well, I'd say you know enough about the territories for today, how about we head back to camp?" Mudfoot added, turning around and waiting for a response.

OOC: Sorry for crap post >< SkyClan's territory goes along the Thunderpath. Also, do you want to work on Battle training in this topic or can that wait for the next topic and we just patrol in this one.

"OK" Frostpaw meowed, slightly disappointed he hadn't seen a cat from another Clan. He followed his mentor deeper into the territory. "Have you ever climbed Highpine Mudfoot?"

"Hm, I don't think I've ever climbed it," he started, heading back to the camp. "But I assume that it's a very dangerous climb," Mudfoot chuckled, not wanting to think about how far the fall would be from up so high.
