You'll be a great warrior one day (Birth topic, open)

What have I signed up for? The tawny she-cat lay in the nursery, seriously wondering what she'd gotten herself into. Taking care of Ashkit, though she was calm and reminded the warrior of herself, was a handful already, and her own kits were due any day now. She'd never really been the motherly type, and Tawnystorm was probably the most annoyed that she couldn't fulfill her warrior duties while nursing kits. Well, it was only six moons, and at least she wasn't mentoring an apprentice at the moment. But she reassured herself it would be worth it if her family's bloodline continued.
A crippling pain suddenly shot through Tawnystorm, and she knew exactly what it was. She gritted her teeth as hard as she could. This was, by far, the most painful thing she'd ever experienced. She'd seen enough queens kitting to know she had to push as hard as she could. "Crowclaw? Ashkit?" she shouted, and was about to call for the medicine cat before another searing pain shot back over her and she clamped her mouth shut. She pushed and pushed, and then....it was over. Tawnystorm almost felt like collapsing as she nipped the sac of her one kit. A brown tabby tom, eyes still shut. She smiled exhaustedly. "Otterkit."
He reminded her of one, and already she could see he was full of energy. No doubt he was gong to be a sharp contrast to his adopted sibling. She placed him down by her side and let the newborn kit suckle.

Smokeface, returning with fresh-kill from hunting, almost dropped the trout in his jaws as he heard the well-known voice of Tawnystorm, calling for. He raced at her, fish still i jaws, but when he saw the kit, his eyes dropped. His mind was burning with a sudden rush of furr as he remembered his crush on the beautiful she-cat, and now, that she had a mate... and a kit? The tomcqt awkwardly left her the fish and stormed away furiously, not speaking.

Tawnystorm gave Smokeface a grateful nod as she bit into the fish, but her expression turned into one of perplexion as he stormed away. 'Thanks for the fish," she called out after him, but took note of her former apprentice's...less than happy expression. "Are you alright?"

The frail fuzz ball that was Ashkit stood at Tawnystorm's side obediently, carefully watching this .. what even was this? All Ashkit understood is that another small kit like her came from Tawnystorm but in some weird odd looking slime and liquid.

Not wanting to ask, she only observed and letting her facial expression do most of the rhetorical talking and questioning. Her ears angled forward to keep close attention and to watch everything going on to maybe learn whatever ... this even was.

But a strong scent came from the smaller kit, her little muzzle inched a bit forward to catch a whiff of the unfamiliar face's scent. It smelt like Tawnystorm's but .. but not. Again, with being so young; this little one couldn't understand anything. She just went with it and would probably ask about it later.

Her ears perked back towards the adult she-cat and what she assumed to be the tiny kit's name.

"Otter .. kit?" She played with the name on her tongue, it was unfamiliar to her but it felt pleasant to say.

Laying near Tawnystorm, she just kept her pale green eyes on both her and the tiny little bean that came from her.

"He's ... so .. small. Even smaller than me." She thought, baffled to think there's anyone smaller than her. Ashkit was more likely than not convinced that she was even smaller than other kits from what she has seen, so it's both a little relieving but worrying at once for someone to be smaller than she.

The little tom squirmed vigorously against his mother's stomach as he suckled, never sitting still for even a moment. Newly named and born, he should have been tired but couldn't stay calm. If he wasn't suckling, he was mewling loudly against his mother's fur. She was warm, smelt nice, of course, but the nipping cold against his wet back had him curious even that young.

Then there was another voice, someone unfamiliar. The tom yowled as loud as a newborn kit could at the intrusion of his space. It sounded like a mouse's dying wail, feeble yet sharp in pitch.

It was only really beginning to set in that she had two kits as she heard the newborn's mewl. Tawnystorm wasn't sure whether to panic or stay still when she heard Ashkit beside her. "Yes, Otterkit. He's your brother, sort of. And he's certainly very excitable!" She laughed tiredly, turning her attention to Otterkit and his tiny little yowl. "Shh...it's just Ashkit." She thought he probably wouldn't be able to comprehend that, but somehow saying that made her feel like a better mother, for whatever reason.

Ashkit's fur stood on the tip-toed ends, her eyes shot open as she hid behind her adoptive guardian.

"T-That noise .. He doesn't like me." She worriedly muttered. Peeking her head out from behind Tawnystorm. She didn't expect for this kit to acknowledge her presence there. If Ashkit would've known that its mean sounding mew was the response she would get for saying his name, she would've definitely reconsidered her choice in saying the new kit's odd name.

"Erm.." Tawnystorm wasn't quite sure what to say. How did Willowbreeze handle this? And her sister had had so many kits too, and she could barely handle two! "Well, he's literally just been born. He's younger than you, he doesn't know who you are yet. I'm sure you'll get along fine once he's opened his eyes, at least." She could only pray that worked.

Hearing his mother sound calm and soothe him, Otterkit reconsidered his position on the newcomer, stopping his caterwauling and lifting his head up weakly to sniff the air around the new cat. She smelt of milk like him, sibling? Though he was getting too drowsy to comprehend this all further. Chirping, he curled up against his mother with his belly full of warm milk, napping against her warm body.

Ashkit only gave a nod as a sort of  physical sign of comprehending what Tawnystorm meant. While still hiding behind her, Ashkit hadn't taken her eyes off of the small bean since he came from her .. despite the logic behind all of that; the confusing explanation of being born to this kit will be saved for a later date and time. Or ever. That worked for Ashkit just as well.

"S-Sleep well, Otterkit." She murmured from behind her guardian. Seeing the large she-cat as her shield from any other frightening sounds this kit may make.
