A Black Moth's Wing (Closed Bonding Time for Cloverpool)

Blacktwig sat in the middle of camp. He felt tired, and his injury burned like a furious fire every time he stretched his legs. He glanced around, then pulled himself piteously to the nursery. Perhaps communication with his daughter would help. A pained meow dragged itself out of his maw. "Hey, Mothkit," he purred. The dusky brown she-kit was a light in the dark, something to help with the vicious pain that now consumed his crippled leg. "C'mon," he whispered, gaze bright. "I wanna talk to you." The tom flicked his tail, standing up and limping to the side of the nursery. He awaited the appearance of his kit's beautiful pelt carefully skimming the side of the milky-scented hollow.

As he did, he saw a moth, black as night, fly past his broad face.

The black, ginger, and white tortie with darker almost transparent spots on her fur and beautiful hazel eyes padded out of the nursery. Mothkit yawned and looked up at her father. "Yeah dad?" She meowed.

Blacktwig shrugged, as the moth landed on a linear piece of grass, its fuzzy antennas probably as soft as his daughter's fur. "Just wanted to talk to you, that's all," he mewed. His muzzle constricted into a warm smile. "We haven't done so in a while."

Mothkit purred. "Yeah your right. So how are you?" She meowed flicking her tail.

"Good," purred Blacktwig, seeming cheerful as can be. Though he missed Emberfall, and wished she was in his clan, he had a little piece of her right here. "And you?" He asked.

Mothkit purred. "I'm good." She meowed smiling.

Blacktwig nodded with a small smile, wiggling his injured leg to a more comfortable position. "Good to hear," he said, before uttering a raspy cough in the other direction. He feared his leg would get infected, yet he didn't bring that up, in fears he would frighten Mothkit.

Mothkit frowned when her father coughed. He seemed to be in so much pain. "Father you are not alright. I can tell. You don't have to keep anything from me." She meowed the last part with a closed eye smile.

"It's just my leg," Blacktwig assured the she-kit with a lick between the ears and a smile. "Nothing I can't handle." He gave a grin. He wouldn't tell her he tried to see her mother, what if she was very loyal to the warrior code? What would she say then?

Mothkit nodded. "Alright. If you say so." She shrugged. She was silent for a few moments before she spoke again. "What was my mother like?" She meowed. The little tortie had always been curious and her mother was another to add to her list.

"Beautiful," Blacktwig breathed wistfully, the memories of Emberfall fresh in his head. His smile grew wider, and a little pang hit him - yes, love, yet mixed with longing. "And kind, too, oh... She was the best she-cat ever..." Blacktwig hummed, then snapped back to reality. "Besides you and your sisters, of course." He mewed, with a fatherly glint to his eyes.

Mothkit giggled. "Well she sounds amazing. Perhaps one day I will get to meet her.." She meowed.

Blacktwig nodded, a sparkle in his eyes. "I'm sure you will," he purred.

Mothkit purred. "I hope so. She sounds wonderful."

Blacktwig smiled, beginning to daydream again. He rolled over on his back, peering at the clouds. "She is," he said softly.
