Moths on the Moss (Closed training for Cloverpool)

The sun was at it's highest point in the sky, beaming down on the cats below. Though there was a chilly nip in the air, a sign of the coming Leafbare, today seemed to be one of the nicer days in the past few moons. Mosswing sat in the middle of the camp, scanning the space for her apprentice. Today, she'd start training with Mothpaw. Oh, StarClan, please don't make me stuff this up...

"Ay, Mothpaw! Where are 'ya?" she called out.

Moth shot up from her nest lost waking up a fee of the apprentices before giving herself a quick grooming and bounding out of the den and over to her mentor. "I'm here!!" she meowed flicking her tail.

Mosswing purred. "Good, then." She smiled at the little ball of energy. Like mentor, like apprentice? "We'll start training today, and I'll show you how to hunt. Follow me." She began to head towards the exit to camp, motioning with her tail for Mothpaw to follow.

Mothpaw followed happily. Today was of course her first day as an apprentice and she was determined dedicated or to screw it up.

Stopping in the middle of a small clearing, Mosswing looked towards her apprentice. "Here we are, ay? I want you to practice your hunting crouch on a leaf or rock, and then, you'll try and catch a real piece of prey." She crouched down into the pose she had mentioned, training her sights on a nearby leaf. "This is the hunting crouch. Try and do it."

Mothpaw nodded and got into the hunting crouch. With her father's help she had perfected it by now. She stalked forward and then pounced on a leaf.

"Oooh, very nice!" Mosswing exclaimed. She had to wonder where she'd learned it. Probably Blacktwig.
The warrior scanned the area for any prey. She could scent some mice, a vole, and a squirrel. Perfect - she'd get Mothpaw to hunt them. "Alrighty, now - I want you to go find some prey and hunt it. Remember, you need to be very quiet, so you don't scare it off."

Mothpaw nodded and scented the air. The sharp tang of pine hit her scent glands and she almost sighed in on tent it was her favorite scent. She stalked off into the bushes and when she saw the mouse she got into the proper hunting crouch and then stalked forward. She pounced on the mouse and bit it's neck to kill it before it could make a sound. Silently thanking Starclan for the prey she padded back to her mentor with the prey.
