it's raining, it's pouring (open)

Adderkit sat at the entrance of the nursery, the only den that existed in camp. His long whiskers dipped every so often under the weight of a rain drop, but he didn't make the effort to scoot back out of the way of the rain. It was sunny out so the rain was slightly blinding as it fell before him and as it pooled in the center of the sandy dip WindClan claimed as camp. This was the first time he had ever experienced weather like this and he was curious as to what the other clan cats did when it rained. The tomcat figured that if he were older and it was raining he would be out of camp trying to busy himself as a distraction, but since he was a kit and wasn't allowed to really do anything he sat idle, his tall ears cupped forward to try and hear anything through the noise of the rain falling. He squinted his deep blue eyes to protect them from the water that splattered around him, his angular face making it look like his lips were pursed and he was annoyed by something. It was quite the opposite though, Adderkit was enjoying this gloomy weather.

Adderkit watched as the deputy padded to him, his fur matching the color of the skies above. He stiffened up and sat up straighter, knowing that this cat was important to the clan and deserved a lot of respect. "It's nice" Adderkit said shortly, scooting over so Smokepelt had room in the entrance and out of the rain. "Camp seems really quiet" he said, looking up at the gloomy sky and getting misted with rain. His gray face was turning darker with the moisture and he licked at his whiskers to get rid of some droplets that were clinging on.

Adderkit thought about getting sick, then pushed the thought away. He wasn't some weakling little kit who fell ill, or that's what he thought of himself anyways. "I'll be fine" he murmured, scooting back ever so slightly out of the water. "At least I have short fur. I think that's why I don't mind getting wet" he said, flicking one of his tall ears when rain dropped from above onto his forehead. He stared forward with his eyes squinted and looked at the puddle in the center of camp, kind of tempted to go play in it.

Smokepelt's yawn was contagious but Adderkit fought the urge to do the same. He shuffled his paws as he sat, moist sand getting stuck on them. "I bet short fur is good for fighting too" he noted, turning his angular head to the deputy. It might have sounded like he wanted to be a fighter, but he was actually just trying to reassure himself that he would stand a chance in one. "Harder to grab onto short fur, right?" he asked, making unusual conversation for a kit. He was just ready to be an apprentice and then eventually a warrior. His annoyance with kit antics was wearing his patience out quickly, he wanted to get out of this camp whenever he wanted instead of being confined to this den and he wanted to start being useful.

"I'm ready to start training. I'm bored in this nursery." Adderkit stood up to stretch his legs, they were getting cramped from sitting and kind of achy because of the rainy weather. "I should be having my apprentice ceremony any day now" Adderkit mewed, looking into the den at the elders and queens resting. He turned back around to look out at the camp and saw the fresh kill pile getting soaked by the rain. He hadn't noticed the scent earlier but now it came in waves when the rain lessened for a second. He licked his lips and debated going out to grab something small.

Adderkit perked up at Smokepelt's comment. It was nice to hear the deputy compliment him that way, even though he already thought that about himself. "I won't" he said, letting a curved smile break through his angular features. He almost never smiled, but he felt really good about what Smokepelt said. "I think I'm going to get a snack" the tom said, sticking his head out of the den. The rain had lightened up, at least for a little while, and he figured this was the best time to head to the fresh kill pile.

Adderkit padded out of the den at a brisk pace, his tiny body blending in with the wet sand underfoot. He headed straight for the fresh kill pile and had a piece in mind; a small gray mouse lay at the edge of the pile and was the perfect choice. He picked it up, having kind of a hard time since it was weighed down by the rain in its fur, and shook it to rid it of sand that was clinging on. He turned around and took a few steps towards the den again, but then flicked his ears backwards in thought. Sure, he wasn't the most friendly kit in camp but he knew it would be a nice gesture and would earn him some brownie points if he brought something back for Smokepelt. Turning on his heels and digging into the sand he headed back a couple steps to the pile and picked out another mouse, this one slightly bigger, and struggled to fit them both in his narrow jaws. He half dragged the prey back to the den, dropping them near Smokepelt. "In case you're hungry" he panted, stretching his jaw to un-cramp it.

Adderkit was facing Smokepelt and craned his neck to the side to look into the den. "They are all sleeping" he said shortly, bringing his head back over his body to look straight ahead at the deputy again. He laid down into the dry sand of the den and made himself comfortable, making little divets in the sand where his heels and boney elbows would rest. He grabbed the small mouse with a paw, digging his claws down so its tail went between them. He dragged it over, shook it off, and began to nibble on it. The taste of the prey was dampened by the water but it was still good, and the smell of it started to waft around the den. He paused between bites and murmured "I guess that's one good thing about being a kit. I get to eat first" before continuing his meal.
