New Family [Open]

Breezeheart sat in the nursery. She never imagined, but the day had finally come. She had kits of her own, and a mate of her own. She was a proud mother to two kits, both of them a gift to her. One of them looked closer to her than their father. That one she named Nightkit. The other was a cream colored kit, which she named Softkit. Two wonderful daughters. The black warrior watched her two kits who had just awoken from a nap. Hopefully Cedarfur would be in soon to visit. Maybe Saltpelt would visit too.. For now she was enjoying the calm that was sure to go away.

Nightkit woke up and stretched lazily, looking at her sister before jumping out of the nest, still a bit clumsy thanks to drowsiness. After a yawn and shaking her head she could now grasp the awoken world a bit better. Her gaze wondered all over the nursery before landing on Breezeheart. With a small smirk she walked behind her as silently as possible until she was only at a couple of kitsteps from her, wiggling her hips a bit as she crouched.

“HEY MOM!” She yowled from the top of her lungs, pouncing on her mother’s back with a playful grin on her muzzle, attempting to startle her even if just a tiny bit.

Cedarfur padded from the Warrior's den to the nursery, anxious to check on Breezeheart and the kits. Being his second litter, he was prepared for parenthood and would make sure his kits lived to become warriors. Having to awkwardly bend down because of his height, the abnormally tall tom entered the nursery just in time to see Nightkit tackling her mother. "Hey now, not to rough. Your mother must be tired," he meowed with a smile, sitting down.

Softkit’s ears twitched dazedly as she snoozed against her mother. She felt her sister stir and stretch, but didn’t move just yet. She wanted to enjoy the comforting warmth and smell of her mother, if just for a minute longer. She jumped a bit in surprise when her sister suddenly cried out and jumped on their mother. Softkit looked up, startled but not upset. She giggled at the goofy smile on her sister’s face.

”You’re silly,” Softkit crooned lovingly. The blonde tabby perked up at the sound of her father’s voice behind her. She spun eagerly and weakly padded toward him. Maybe she could sacrifice Mom’s comfort and warmth for Dad’s, just for a minute. She liked the way he smelled, so without bothering to ask permission, Softkit thrust her nose into his leg.

”Hi Dad,” she mewed.

Breezeheart saw her little kit sneaking around so she knew what was coming, but it didn't take long for Nightkit to vanish from sight behind her. She felt the little kit jump on her and she turned over and cried out. "Oh no! You got me!" The black warrior made a small strangled noise and then went limp for a moment. Soon the warrior shot up and grabbed Nightkit and curled around her. "Now I got you!" She said, knowing Softkit was safe with Cedarfur.

Nightkit perked her ears as soon as her father walked in, her attention shifting from one cat to another “Hello Dad” The usual playful smirk that was so distinctive of her never leaving her small muzzle.

“Uh?” The playful she-kit tilted her head a bit when her mother went limp, however, the movement from her chest kept her calm, knowing that she was fine. Nightkit clearly didn’t startled her, but she didn’t feel upset for that. After all, taking a full grown by surprise wouldn’t be easy, she just needed to get better. The she-kit was lost in these thoughts when Breezeheart moved, taking her completely off-guard as she let out a small surprised yelp.

However, the surprise was soon replaced with laughs as the kit playfully batted at her mother, careful to not cause any harm. She would need to remember that technique, maybe she could use it for one of her pranks someday.

Cedarfur watched as his mate and Nightkit played together. He couldn't help but give a chuckle and looked down when someone pressed against his fur. "Hi sweetheart," he replied softly, giving the small cat a lick on the head. Looking at his family, the tom gave a purr of happiness. He couldn't be more happy with his mate and kits, and couldn't wait to watch them grow up to become warriors.

As Cedarfur gently caressed Softkit’s mouth, she signed with contentment. She knew she would never be as fast or frisky as her sister, but if she could be loved anyway, it was good enough for her. And her parents seemed to really love her. She was lucky, she knew, and she wasn’t going to waste a drop of love.

”How are you today, Dad?” Softkit peeked up at her father through his chest fur as she squeaked out the question. She scooted back a couple of inches and sat down, tilting her head curiously. She couldn’t wait to hear what her dad’s day had been like so far. He was a warrior cat for Windclan! He got to leave the gorse and explore, chase rabbits through the fields, do all the exciting things Softkit was afraid to even think about. He was a hero for her, one whose likeness she could never hope to achieve.
Softkit’s right ear glanced toward her mother and sister, keeping tabs on their play. The sound of laughter and joy brought peace to her and reassured her that all were well and safe. Later in life moments like this would send her purring louder than the monsters on the Thunderpath, but for now all she could do was cast a small grin of excitement in her father’s direction.

Looking down at Softkit who was buried beneath his chest fur, the tall tom let out a laugh. "I'm doing good," he replied simply, but seeing her look up at him like that told him she wanted an in depth explanation. Giving a smile that was followed by a content sigh, Cedarfur lied down, so he was on her level. "Well, today, I went of a patrol and guess what I saw! The biggest rabbit in the history of WindClan!" He exclaimed. The rabbit part wasn't a lie, but recently, life hadn't really been that eventful, though he couldn't tell his kits that, they would be heart broken to hear that their father wasn't battling cats every day.

Keeping her belly pressed against the floor, a white tabby creeped up onto the happy family. Saltpelt made eye contact with her sister first, giving her a warning before bounding over the last few leaps to tap little Nightkit and then Softkit on the head before jumping back away. Landing on all four, she dropped into a crouch and wiggled her tail playfully. "How's my adorable nieces doing?" She purred. "They look just like you two, cutest kits around... Don't tell Spiderfur I said that though."

Breezeheart soon released Nightkit, only to notice her sister, Saltpelt creeping inside. The black warrior not wanting to give away her sister's presence turned her attention back to her kits, and mate. It was good the kits were having fun in here, and not running out of camp, and almost being caught by a bird. She remembered her mom telling her that story shortly after Saltpelt, and their brother, Pinedusk, snuck out of camp. She wouldn't ever forget that story.

Brezeheart watched with amusement as her sister grabbed the kits attention. She straitened out, and sat up giving them some room if they wouldn't to play with their aunt. When Saltpelt brought up that they were the cutest kits, Breezeheart let out a small purr. "I won't say anything."

Someone surprised and caught off guard by Saltpelt's sudden appearance, Cedarfur ended up just giving a happy purr. He'd been so occupied with Softkit he didn't even hear her. "Haha, hello Saltpelt," he meowed, sitting by his mate and watching the kits and their aunt play. It was a great relief to have such a loving family. Letting out an content sigh, he wished these wonderful and peaceful times would never end.

As Cedarfur lowered himself to the ground, Softkit all but scrambled to find the best snuggling spot. After a few moments of adjusting, she decided to curl up behind the crick of his right shoulder. Her paws folded under her and she rested her head on her father’s arm, eyes full and focused on him.

”Wow!!” The biggest rabbit in WindClan? That sounded amazing! Softkit looked at her dad with a mixture of admiration and astonishment. ”How big was it, Dad? Was it bigger than you? Did you chase it? Did anyone else see it?”

Softkit had more questions she wanted to ask, but before she could spurt them out in rapid fire, something connected with her head. It didn’t hurt, but it certainly surprised Softkit. She let out a little, startled mew and buried her head in her dad’s shoulder. She peeked an eye out cautiously and spotted a tabby cat even lighter in color than her! She purred up gleefully at her aunt, pretending like the boop on the head hadn’t scared her. She made sure not to leave her dad’s side as long as she could help it, though. Just in case.

”Dad was telling me about the biggest rabbit ever seen!” The enthusiasm in Softkit’s voice was there, but it did nothing to help raise the naturally quiet tone of her voice. ”Nightkit, c’mere! Dad saw the biggest rabbit in WindClan history today!”

Nightkit climbed on Breezeheart’s back as soon as she released her, batting at her ears playfully and staying out of her reach so she wouldn’t be able to catch her again. She didn’t even noticed that Saltpelt was around until she felt someone tapping her head, causing her to jump in surprise, falling off her mother as a result in a rather hilarious way. The dark kit rushed back to her paws, trying to look like if the small tap hadn’t surprised her, even if her now fluffy tail betrayed her act. Surprised twice in a row, she really had to stop lowering her guard like this…well, a lesson learned for the future.

She smiled at Saltpelt, happy to see her aunt around “Hello!” She wanted to ask her to teach her how to sneak like that, but before even the first word left her mouth her thought process was interrupted by her sister, though thanks to her words, her gaze soon landed on her father instead “Really?! Did you catch it? Can we see it?” The energetic kit was now as interested as her sister about their father hunting story.

Cedarfur looked down at his two kits who were now sitting in front of him, eager to hear how he caught the rabbit. Giving a purr at their rambunctiousness, his facial expression suddenly went serious. "I'll tell you, but you better be ready for the most amazing story ever," the tom meowed in a teasingly spooky tone, lowering his head so it was at their level. "The moor was silent, not a cat in sight," Cedarfur started, setting the stage for the young kits. "I was crouched down in the tall grass, listening for any signs of prey when suddenly, a huge rabbit jumped out of nowhere!" He suddenly meowed in an excited tone. "Now, I wasn't going to just let a perfectly good rabbit get away, so I ran for it. With my long legs, I followed the scent and caught up to it in now time. Taking a leap, I tackled it to the ground, and for a few moments it put up a fight, but the great Cedarfur got the best of that rabbit, and now it lays in the fresh kill pile!" The tom meowed proudly, looking towards the ceiling of the den and puffing out his chest fur. Looking back to the kits, he gave them both a swift lick on the head. "I was going to go grab it for your mother, maybe if you're good she'll give you a bite," Cedarfur whispered to them playfully, turning his eyes mischievously towards Breezeheart.
