The River plentiful with Trout, but Barren [closed?]

Troutstep sat by the river, depressed with his head low. After all his mother and family had done, he finally couldn't take it any more. He sat on the shore, no friends to comfort him, no mate. Only, loneliness and anger. He sat in silence until he heard the paw steps of what sounded like a kit...

The patched tabby tom looked at the ground as he wandered toward the warrior. He had honestly not meant to go to Troutstep, but that was where his paws had taken him, apparently. The Cymric looked up with a blank gaze at his friend, the golden brown warrior. Barrenkit picked up his pace, now knowing where he was headed off too, and stopped at Troutstep. He plunked his but onto the ground next to his friend and looked up at him silently, sensing that something was wrong. "Troutstep?" the kit finally asked, his high-pitched adorable voice cracking with worry.

Troutstep looked down at kit, his spirits lifting slightly. "Oh, hey Barrenkit. I don't even know anymore. Family drama I guess." he sighed sadly, then looked up at the sky.

Barrenkit sighed and looked into the river, sticking a paw into the chilly water and then yanking it out in shock. The little tom bent down and took some big, cold gulps. "Am I part of your family?" He asked as he looked up at the warrior. Troutstep was Barrenkit's role model and somewhat of a fatherly figure in life. He really looked up to him, literally and figuratively.

Troutstep gazed at the sky, listening to the kit as he put a paw in the water. He couldn't help but purr. but he was shocked when Barrenkit asked him the question. Troutstep looked down at the kit, and slightly turned his head. "To me? Of course you you are." he gave a soft smile and rubbed his paw on the kit's head. "ButI must ask... wh-why would you want to be in my family?" he choked.

Barrenkit shrugged and stared at his reflection in the rippling waters. "I dunno. I guess that...everyone needs a family. Weather it's with your blood-relatives or with your friends, everyone needs one to be happy. I don't have much of one, just a mamma and no dad or siblings. I need to make my own family with what I've got, and that's you, Troutstep. You and Whitefoot, so far." Barrenkit stuck his paw in the river again, but this time he didn't pull it out. He stuck his other paw in and bent down for another big drink.

Troutstep was happy to hear what the kit was saying until he heard his brother's name. "Oh ya...Whitefoot." he said gloomily.
