Patrol, anybody?

Palefrost smiled, amused, as Lightningpaw rushed toward the river. Slipping to a different section of the river, she dug her hind claws into the bank and held her forepaws out. When three fish slipped toward her, she flashed out her paws, claws unsheathed, and hooked the two fish with her claws. She brought the two fish together while the third was in between, and thrust them out far onto the bank. While they flopped, she lazily sauntered toward them and delivered them each a quick, neat death bite. "That's a move I made up in my apprenticeship." she told the younger cats, looking up from burying her fish in the earth. "Would you like to see another?" she asked, not caring if they said no. She didn't want to make them feel as if she was boasting, so she busied herself quietly while she waited for a reply.

Dewpaw's fur fluffed out in excitement, her sky blue eyes shining in pride. "That was amazing! Teach me!" She begged the warrior.

Lightningpaw looked over. and me? she asked

Dewpaw's tail brushed the other apprentice, "All of us!" She mewed, If all Riverclan cats hunt like this, then we'd be the best! Her thoughts only excited her more, making her began to prance where she stood.

Palefrost purred, looking at the river slyly. "Well, if you insist..." Glancing back over at the apprentices with a glimmer in her eyes, she grinned. "Alright, I'll show you!" She whisked her tail at the younger cats briskly, beckoning them forward. "I call it...Fish Swoop." She ducked her head, wondering if it was a good enough name. "First, you get about this far away from the edge." Palefrost showed them the distance, before moving on.

"Then, you dig your back claws firmly into the bank, because you don't want to fall in and scare the fish off." Checking to make sure they were watching, the fluffy silver-gray she-cat continued. "When two, three, or four fish float within reach, you flash out your paws and slap the first and last one together, and if there are any in between, they'll get caught as well. Now, when you bring the fish together, you have to have your claws out and ready." Waiting a bit, three fish floated past her.

"This," she whispered quietly, "is how you do it..." She flashed out both paws and slapped the fish together, her claws drawing scarlet liquid from the fish's sides. As fast as her paws were in the water, they were out again. She swung her forelegs back toward her body, and the fish were flopping in the air. The fish went flying about a foxlength and landed with a sickening thud. "There. Now the fish are dead, and you have three of them at a time!" she mewed cheerfully. Her mouth was twisted into a smile, and she thought of her other move. "Ready to try this one out, then learn another?" she asked.

"Oh yes!" Dewpaw mewed eager to try it out for herself letting her claws slide out she crept towards the river side. Patiently waiting for her chance.

Tansypaw watched Palefrost's demonstration and decided to try it. "Here, fishy, fishy, fishy," she mumbled to herself as she stood by the river, looking expectantly into its depths. Soon, a small school of fish swam idly by. Perfect. She flashed her speckled paws out and slapped them together- a second too late. With all that force directed at nothing, the cream-colored she-cat fell face-first into the river. "Ow!" she spluttered, coming out of the water. Great job, Tansypaw. Now they all know you're an idiot.

Dewpaw's whiskers twitched in amusement, "are you all right?" She mewed holding back a purr

Palefrost leapt forward and scanned the young apprentice for any injuries. When she found none, she stepped back a bit. "It's alright. You'll get it." she mewed, giving Tansypaw a reassuring smile. "Ready to try again?"

Dewpaw returned to scanning the river for any shadows of fish, eventually two fat salmon came lazily swimming practically right under her claws! Pinning her ears she leapt and managed to snag them both, but due to their weight and her size, she couldn't haul them up. "I need assistance!!" She yowled using her strength to keep them pinned, she could feel her grip loosening.

Lightningpaw ran to dewpaw and worked to help with the salmon.

Dewpaw managed to haul one up and toss it onto the bank. She took a deep breath and shoved her head underwater to grab the second one that Lightningpaw was holding down, finding the flailing fish she bit down hard feeling its life ebb away as she started shuffling backwards dragging it up. Dropping it beside the first she scowled at the fish. "Mousebrain! I didn't get three!" She sulked and sat down to clean up her dripping self.

Palefrost dipped her head at Lightningpaw for helping Dewpaw, and smiled at the fluffy gray apprentice. "Very good, Dewpaw! Keep up the good work." she praised, purring.

She shook her head, "But I defeated the purpose of the technique! I only got two!" She fussed and sighed

Palefrost let out an amused purr. "You didn't defeat the purpose of the move! The purpose is to catch fish, no matter how many!" she soothed, licking one of Dewpaw's ears. "C'mon, let's have another go!" she mewed encouragingly.
