I'm Hungry

Shadowkit walked around camp, looking at the fresh-kill pile. There was only one tiny, baby mouse. He whimpered, and walked off to the center of camp to lay down. "Will I get to see the end of LeafBare? Or will I die here of starvation?" He put his head down on his paws, his amber eyes seeming dull.

Duskfall approached the kit, carrying fresh-kill from his hunt. He'd done well this morning, and his fellow clanmates had hunted well too. In his jaws were two fat mice hanging by the tail. He had to go back for the thrush, and vole he'd caught. With Leafbare almost over, prey was starting to return, and it looked promising.

But he understood the kit's woes since the freshkill pile had been a little bare. He mreowed amused, and dropped a mouse in front of the kit, and the other on the pile. "Here, so you won't die of starvation. And there's more where that came from. Today's hunt is the best it's been in ages."

"Thank you!" He purred, and nuzzled her leg. "I owe you, Duskfall! I promise, somehow, I'll make it up to you!" Shadowkit nommed the mouse and felt better then he had in a while.

"Just eat, Shadowkit." He spoke, then licked the kit affectionately on the head. Duskfall was simply happy to see that his hunting had fed another member of his clan. The tom then left to dig up the thrush and vole he'd hidden. The cats weren't the only creatures that had been starving through Leafbare, and he knew better than to risk a fox getting to the prey.
