Subject: Tired and Hungry [OPEN] Thu 9 Nov 2023 - 13:40
Stoneheart, quite frankly, was exhausted. Famine had struck the clans, and struck hard, leaving bones showing beneath now-thinning and dulled pelts, and a weariness to the warrior's green eyes as she padded from camp with the rest of the Skyclan patrol in silence. The cold bit through her fur, and even though the sun was shining brightly and the soft murmur of the creek's waters were now in earshot, all the gray-pelted warrior wanted to do was go back to her nest and sleep.
Part of her was beginning to wonder if expending the energy to hunt was even worth it. But there were kits in the nursery, elders in the elder's den, and Skyclan needed to survive. The only way to find prey was to try, and as exhausted as Stoneheart was, she wasn't so exhausted that she'd refuse to put in the effort to see her clan fed. Even if it was only their most vulnerable.

Hunger and exhaustion dragged at Sunfire's limbs as he padded alongside Stoneheart. He was too tired to hunt, but he was too famished to sleep, and neither of those problems had an immediate solution other than finding food. Failed hunt after failed hunt, though, was beginning to wear down the young tom's already fragile state of mind, and as the days passed, desperate measures were looking more and more tempting. Sunfire was bitter and angry - at StarClan (if they existed... still doubtful), at the other clans, even, to some extent, his own clan. Birdstar and Wolfblossom had led them well, and kept them safe and fed since Sunfire could remember, but now they were starving, and no one was doing anything about it.
Soon, SkyClan was going to start dropping like flies. What good would their precious warrior code do for them in the grave?
Right now though, he didn't have the energy to fight it. It was all he could do just to keep one paw in front of the other, concentrating on the shape of Stoneheart's dark pelt just ahead.

Creamsky followed a tail-length or two behind, keeping his eyes flickering back and forth lest any trace of prey made itself known. His tail was barely not scraping against the ground - if only because he was spending a whisker of energy to keep it ever-so lifted. His stomach ached in a way he had never imagined, it was hard to focus on anything but he was doing his best. Even every warrior let the hunger get to them, then there would be no paws at hand when prey did show itself. It wasn't easy and it certainly was pleasant, but he was determined to do everything he could for his Clan - even if his stomach felt like it was starting to devour itself.

Mintglade found herself following as well. While the moonlit creek had once been a source of peace for the warrior, she now found herself particularly unenthused in arriving. Something about it... she couldn't quite place her paw on it, but it made her exhausted to come here. Perhaps it was the depression knowing the glory it once had been. She forced energy into her limbs as she propelled herself into one of the trees, her once-vibrant gaze sweeping for any flicker of life. Anything.
She almost would have missed the creature, too, had its wings not flapped. Snapping her head in the direction of the robin, she had her target set. There was only one thing on her mind at the moment: Food. Whiskers twitching, the silvered tabby made her move.
Unfortunately, with the exhaustion that fueled her, she missed the strike. Clumsily, Mintglade now found herself back on the forest floor, and quickly went to grooming her chest in embarrassment.
