Into the Woods we have to go [For Silverpaw]

Duskfall waited at the Sandy Hollow for his apprentice to come. Basking in the dappled sunlight, he tried to warm up as much as possible in the cold. Leafbare was almost over but it was undeniable that the chill hadn't quite left completely, but shoots of green did begin to appear throughout the forest. Also the snow that had been oppressive and all-consuming had begun to fade away.

He stifled a yawn as he sat in the sand, but when he heard the rustling of his apprentice approaching, he got up to greet the cat.

"Someone took their time." He meowed teasingly.

Silverpaw made her way through the trees towards the hollow. She had just finished caring for queens and elders, the life of an Apprentice had its downsides.
"I'm sorry, Duskfall. I had to change the elder's bedding." The older tom had organized their first training session, the part Silverpaw had been looking forward to.

"I'm just teasing." Duskfall spoke kindly, he was impressed by the apprentice's sincerity. But Duskfall was never a cat for much formality, and wanted Silverpaw to be comfortable with him as a mentor. "Its fine to be a little late if you have a reason. I was an apprentice too until a moon ago, and I know how it is."

Silverpaw nodded slightly to her mentor. "Do I get to start battle training today?" One of the biggest parts of being a warrior was fighting for the Clan and Silverpaw would fight like the best warrior. Silverpaw got up and ran in circles around Duskfall, waving her claws.

"Yes, of course. Can't have my apprentice be helpless considering Riverclan cats have been straying close to the border. By the time I'm done with you, you'll have those fish faces quivering in fear." Duskfall spoke, distaste colouring his voice when he spoke of the Riverclan. But it was soon lost as he settled onto his forepaws into a crouch, dekonstrating to his apprentice what to do. "Now I want you to try and pounce on me, Silverpaw."

Silverpaw copied the crouch her mentor was showing, eager to impress. She pushed off her feet and went flying intothe air, straight at her mentor.

Duskfall easily batted her away using his sheer size, but was generally impressed at Silverpaw's strength. With a bit more growth, and training, she would make a formidable she-cat. She had the makings of a fine warrior, and he hadn't even taught her a thing.

"You jumped a little too high this time. Let's try a mock fight, and you'll see why it might be a problem. Remember, claws sheathed."

After being knocked down, Silverpaw got to her paws and pounced again at her mentor.

Duskfall was impressed by Silverpaw's moves, but couldn't let his apprentice win, he was her mentor and a warrior after all. Falling limp to the ground, he tricked her by feinting a wound, and pouncing on her once she got close.
