"The weak never have their wings unfurl."
Silverhawk T3 Warrior | ShadowClan | he/him
It wasn't snowing so much anymore, the flurries turning more into sleet and rain. Either way, precipitation remained frequent. Between that and the fact everything was trying to thaw, the muddy ground was even wetter. It churned like the lake shallows around Silverhawk's legs as he forded a patrol onward. The mud only went halfway up his legs, which was preferable to wading through the surely-flooded Deep Marshes... but it was still disgusting. Silverhawk's tail lashed frequently with annoyance. He was sticky and soaked, and he wanted to go home and spend the rest of the night grooming every spot of muck out of his fur. He was grateful when the slurry final started to recede, earth growing dryer; firmer; and eventually, transitioning into grass. Tall, dense trees shaded the patrol from the moon's light as they passed by.
Silverhawk let out a sigh of relief. He could set aside feeling filthy to enjoy standing amidst the Pine Grove for a moment. But he didn't have long to relish: under the rich scent of stirred needles, his nose quickly found that of prey. Ear flicking once, he silently moved away from his patrol to wind across the clearing. Closer to the opposite treeline, he spotted it: a scrawny rabbit, picking at shoots. But its ears shot up before he could even crouch, and the stupid thing went tearing off past the trees. Silverhawk huffed and jerked his head to scowl in the opposite rabbits. Blasted rabbits. I hope everyone else has the same luck. He privately cursed.

Each of Nettlepaw’s paw steps was punctuated by a loud sucking noise as he yanked his legs free of the mud in an exaggerated fashion. His white pelt splattered with muck and his fur lay flat with the wet nature of the mud. There was no complaints from him, he found it quite funny, especially when his paws were dragged back down with a pfft sound. He tried not to giggle, they were on a hunting patrol and he needed to be quiet, so instead he opted to suck his giggles in, every now and then releasing a long held breath when he felt his chest might explode. Eventually the marsh gave way to solid ground and despite how amusing he had found the mud, he was grateful to no longer have to exert himself. The loss of having to put effort into walking threw Nettlepaw, almost tripping over his large paws and landing face first in the dirt.
The tom righted himself and trailed after Silverhawk, watching the tom miss the rabbit. He frowned slightly, Hedgepaw had said her brother was big and strong. Maybe today was just his off day or something. Nettlepaw would make it up to him. “Don’t worry Silverhawk! I’ll get it for you.” he mewed dropping into a crouch. Nettlepaw followed the scent of the rabbit, it hadn’t gotten very far at all. This was going to be so perfect! Silverhawk would be so happy and then he’d have a friend that war a warrior. Maybe Silverhawk would even stick up for him when Lilypaw was around, none of the other warriors did. The tom tensed, about to spring, but just like with Silverhawk the rabbit spied Nettlepaw and bolted a way.
It was with a sour look that Nettlepaw returned back to the patrol with. “Rabbits are too hard to catch.” he whinged, dragging his paws. Next time he’d go for something easier that he’d definitely catch.

Larkshine Tier 1 Warrior | Shadowclan | She/Her
Larkshine padded happily behind the rest of the patrol, soaking in all the scents of the forest. She heard the little pitter patter of a rodent near the water. She dropped down into a crouch and crept closer. Once she spotted the small brown creature she sprang forward. Unfortunately, the water shrew dashed into the water and swam away. Larkshine growled at the frightened little being.

Sagefeather watched as the rabbit bolted away from two of his fellow clanmates. Curiosity and determination forced his paws to begin moving into action. A rabbit might have a burrow some place, but as marshy and wet and Shadowclan territory was, was it possible that it would collapse and cause the rabbit to hesitate to go in? Sagefeather raced after the rabbit, slipping in and out of shadows like some ethereal creature. It must be terrifying for the rabbit, and he had a pang of sympathy for it, but his clan needed to eat. The biggest mercy he could give it was a swift death, if only he could catch it.
Sagefeather attempted to catch a rabbit! He was [SUCCESSFUL] -5SP
Sagefeather appeared to flicker in and out of existence between the trees, using the blackness as cover. The rabbit stopped at it's burrow, confused... before Sagefeather leaped from the blackness and sank his fangs into the back of the rabbit's neck. It died immediately, it's neck vertebrae severed. Sagefeather made sure it was dead before he sighed with relief. Looking for landmarks, he made his way back to where he left his patrol. He found them quickly and easily enough, and with a proud sparkle in his eyes, there was no smugness on his face nor taunt in his tone when he finally spoke.
"Uh... here you go Silverhawk." He said almost shyly. He set the rabbit down at Silverhawk's feet. "I don't know that I would have ever seen it if you hadn't flushed it so..." He didn't know what more there was to say. He spared a glance at Nettlepaw but gave him an encouraging smile. Sagefeather just wasn't one to boast. Why do it? He was likely to miss something at some point and he'd appreciate it if anyone who saw it was kind to him in turn.

"The weak never have their wings unfurl."
Silverhawk T2 Warrior | ShadowClan | he/him
Silverhawk barely kept back the scowl that wanted to surface. He turned and blinked slowly at Nettlepaw, watching the younger tom sink into a crouch. His stomach curled in on itself and his claws were practically begging to slip from their sheaths. Oh, sure, he wanted to hiss, like a half-trained apprentice can catch anything I can't. Instead, he just muttered, "Sure," and looked away again. Larkshine was occupying herself with other prey, at least--and suffering the same poor luck. Silverhawk's ears twitched low. He hadn't actually meant to curse the patrol. Bah.
Nettlepaw returned soon enough, empty-pawed and whining. While the complaining was a grate on his ears, it helped to staunch the violent nausea roiled in Silverhawk's gut. "Bad luck," he said, a barely-noticeable tautness in his mew. Sagefeather shot off without a word, streaking into the trees, and Silverhawk just scoffed. He wanted to continue his own hunt, but his eyes remained riveted on the direction Sagefeather had just disappeared. He needed to see the moment that fool returned with nothing to show for his burnt energy. Silverhawk had the decorum to keep from laughing in his face, but private revelry was just as good.
A heartbeat ticked by. Then another. Then the undergrowth rustled, and through its parting appeared Sagefeather... rabbit held neatly between his teeth. Silverhawk's focus immediately went to keeping his fur flat as the new warrior approached him. What?! His eyes followed the rabbit down, lingering on its body after Sagefeather released it. You just got lucky. I don't need your pity catch. Silverhawk's tail lashed once before he looked up to meet Sagefeather's eyes. He curtly purred, "Good catch," then stepped away before he smacked a paw into the side of Sagefeather's head.
When he ventured closer to the treeline, the sound of quiet skittering drew his attention. There was a lizard moving between raised roots. Silverhawk almost wanted to let it go, feeling sour over his rabbit still--and Sagefeather's success with it--but he folded into a crouch anyway. He would need something to show for himself. He crept closer, pausing for just a moment before he lunged. His paws closed around it deftly, claws piercing through the tough hide to sever its spine through its neck quickly. A tiny ember of pride warmed some of his bitterness away. Silverhawk lifted his catch by the tail and returned to the patrol, setting it down a tail-length from the rabbit with a contented chuff.

Nettlepaw's ear ticked at Silverhawk's words, blinking slowly. It wasn't just his bad luck. Sagefeather moved past the two tom's in the direction of the rabbit and he paused to watch. His pout only worsened when the newly named warrior returned triumphant. He was trying to steal his new friend by catching the rabbit. "You're right." he said "Silverhawk and I wore it out for you first." Silverhawk trotted in the opposite direction and Nettlepaw got the feeling he didn't want him tagging after him. He dragged his eyes back to Sagefeather, determined to pester someone else. He wasn't as happy as before, especially since the ginger tom had ruined his attempts at friendship. "How come you're a warrior before I am Sagefeather?" He straightened himself up so he was taller than him "I'm older than you, I don't get it." His pink nose twitched as he scented the air, squirrel?! "And I'm pretty sure I've done all my training, watch this."
The tom took off at full speed, charging towards the squirrel. He was definitely going to catch it, it was so stupid and unaware. Nettlepaw was sure he might have been running the fastest he'd ever run, this'll show that idiot, Sagefeather! A smug grin spread it is way across his maw. Until he realised there was something lumbering straight towards him, large and spiky. He was going so fast he was going to smack into it if he didn't do something. In a shower of mud, Nettlepaw flipped onto his back attempting to slide under the porcupine, his momentum carried him under and he flicked his claws out, tearing into its unprotected belly. He emerged scathe free, but coated in mud, grin even smugger considering the move he just pulled off. "See! Now you can tell Leopardstar how good I am!" he called out. The enraged porcupine turned to face him, pawing at the ground. Perhaps he may need some help, it was a really big porcupine. "And I will sing everyone's praises who comes to join me against this brute!" he added dropping low to the ground, protecting his belly and coiling his power for his next attack.

Larkshine snickered at Nettlepaw’s comments. He was a confident little tom for sure. Her ears fell back as a porcupine charged after him, ‘This isn’t good!’ She thought to herself as she darted towards the beast and the apprentice.
She launched herself forward and slid under the porcupine, ripping at its soft belly with her sharp claws. She rolled out from under neath the pokey beast and shielded Nettlepaw with her body. "Quite a predicament you got yourself into Nettlepaw." She mewed down smiling at the young tom.
