Wrenkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Dewstar yowled loudly the signal for a Clan meeting. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!"

So many kits these days! Spottedflight thought, padding to stand under highrock. Or maybe I should say so many apprentices, she corrected herself, knowing that all the little kits would soon be trained and then hopefully given warrior names. But first they had to have their ceremony. The thin-furred warrior shivered as she sat down, wondering who's getting their 'paw today. It was strange having so many new trainees this close to Leaf-bare. But at least that meant more claws hunting.

Wrenkit poked his head outside the nursery when he heard the Clan leader's call. I wonder what this is about, he thought before it hit him. I'm six moons old! Maybe this is my apprentice ceremony! He was trembling with excitement as he sat down outside the nursery. He had been eagerly awaiting his ceremony, but he had forgotten all about it until it actually happened.

"Wrenkit, please step forward. You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this moment on, you shall be known as Wrenpaw. Spottedflight will mentor you. I know Spottedfeather would have liked to take you as her apprentice, but I'm afraid she would be too easy on you." Dewstar spoke kindly. She couldn't give Spottedfeather all the apprentices, anyway.

"Wrenpaw! Wrenpaw!" she smiled at the apprentice. She sighed, even though she actually wanted the apprentice as her own, she simply couldn't. She had so many already. 'I have to let others have fun training apprentices.' she thought simply to herself. She nodded to Dewstar, silently thanking her for the relief of not having another apprentice.

Spottedflight padded forward, glad to gain a new apprentice.  Touching noses with Wrenpaw, she mewed, "I won't be too hard on you either, you know," giving the 'paw a smile, referencing what Dewstar had said.

Wrenpaw was shaking with excitement. He smiled at his new mentor as he said his name over and over in his head. He liked it. He wasn't a kit anymore, he was an apprentice, and his eyes glowed with ThunderClan pride to prove it. "You don't need to go easy on me," he meowed to Spottedflight, puffing out his tawny-brown chest confidently.
