Lichenkit had suffered another long, horrifying, and utterly bad night of no sleep once again. Crawling out of his nest and into the nursery, he tip-toed to the medicine den, his favorite place in the world, and quietly slipped into a ball next to Morningfur.

Morningfur shifted, feeling something moving next to her. She raised her head and looked down at the small bundle of fur that wasn't so small anymore. He was growing quickly, and would be an apprentice soon. She hoped he would want to be Medicine Cat. She really did like this kit and he was so cheery and bouncy and spent so much time with her that he knew more herbs than the average warrior. He would be a great apprentice.

Morningfur nudged the kitten, licking his head. "What wrong?" she asked.

"I can't sleep, Morningfur. Can I sleep with you, in here?" he asked, raising his head to look at her in the dark. "I like it in here, a lot." he said, nodding and snuggling closer to the medicine cat.

Morningfur sighed and nuzzled the kit, scooting ocer so he wasnt crushed between her and the side of the nest. "Yes, you can," she meowed.

"Yay!" he murmered, happy. "You know, I want to be a medicine cat!" he declaired. "That way, we can share a nest!" he cheered happuly

Morningfur purred as she looked down at the kit. "Are you sure?" she asked. "It's a big decision, and there are many responsibilities." It wasn't that she didn't want him as her apprentice, she was actually thrilled at the idea, but she didn't want the young cat regretting the choice later in his life. Probably the hardest rule was that a Medicine Cat could not have a mate. It was the hardest rule to follow, and the hardest to explain to a kit who knew nothing of love. As much as she hated to admit it, she had fallen in love, although she had not had a mate. But it still made her feel guitly, and she didn't want Lichenkit to ever feel the heartbreaks she sometimes felt. She waited patiently for his answer. She wanted him to think about it first. At least for a night.
