Softwhisper had just returned from herb-hunting (the best kind of hunting), and was walking past the Nursery when something caught his eye. A little ball of fur, to be exact. . .

(And your post, Oak. :D)

Oakkit was just padding out of the nursery. She looked at Softwhisper and ran over.

"Hi! Who are you?" She said, still trying to master her big smile, but still sneezed a bit into the ground.

Softwhisper reared back, dropping the borage leaves he was carrying in his mouth. "Eeeeek!" cried the tom as his herbs fell to the ground. The kit's sneeze had frightened him, but he recovered, and looked down at Oakkit, a bit embarrassed.

"I'm Softwhisper," he murmured. "Your Medicine Cat." He pushed the leaves into a pile in front of him with his paws, prepared to answer any question an inquisitive kit could ask.

"Really?" She looked at him with wide eyes. "Does it feel good to help people? Being medicine cat sounds fun!"

Softwhisper purred at the kit's excitement. It was often that kits claimed that they wanted to be Medicine Cat, but rare that it was true; the allure of fighting for the Clan seemed much better. Softwhisper would have you know, of course, that healing was just as important as clawing.

"Yes, it can be gratifying, " said the Medicine Cat. He licked his fur absentmindedly. "But I'm sure a strong kit like you would much rather be a Warrior." He challenged . . the kits response to this usually gave away whether they were serious about being a Medicine Cat. (and kits were rarely serious about anything.)

"I don't want to be a fighter. Hurting people isn't very nice!" She said. "I want to be helpful!"

Softwhisper regarded Oakkit coolly. It was too soon to tell, but perhaps he should keep an eye on her. "It isn't just about helping cats, you know," he said. "A Medicine Cat has many duties, many responsibilities."

Nightkit padded up and tilted her head. " so...if I 'accidently' walk in to a pile of thorns, you could help me out?" she asked. Nightkit's fur looked a bit lumpy today...

"Did you?" Oakkit said, tilting her head the same way as Nightkit's.

Nightkit looked down at her paws." perhaps..."

Softwhisper looked down at the kit that had gently padded up. He sighed. Kits were always getting into all sorts of mischief, but he hated to see them get hurt. "Let me take a look at it. . . if that's alright," He said, still peering down at little Nightkit.

"ok.." she sighed and flicked an ear and watched the medicine cat work.

Softwhisper pushed her over with a paw a bit too roughly. Once she was on her back, he quickly located the paw. Effortlessly, he pulled it out with his teeth . . . he didn't need any herbs or cobwebs, he had done this a hundred times. "There," He spat the thorn out.

"there is one behind my ear..." she mewed flinching her right ear with a flicker.

Softwhisper huffed, and promptly removed the thorn in a similar fashion. "Anywhere else?" he asked.
