Larkshine was finishing eating a squirrel when she noticed a few warriors and apprentices laying in camp. The cool summer breeze was nice, and the night sky was clear. She quickly made her way over to the center of camp and called out rather loudly to anyone who was willing to listen. “The night is nice, would anyone like to join me on a hunt?! I wish I could go back in time; not to change anything, but to feel a few things twice.
Juniperpaw blinked as Larkshine's voice rang out through the camp. She barely knew the older she-cat, but she was such a nice cat, and made Juniperpaw feel safe during patrols so... she supposed she could accompany her friend, if she could even call it that. The black apprentice half-stepped half-rolled out of her position tucked under a bush and into the clearing, stopping before Larkshine with a slow blink and a slight smile. She didn't really like going out into the forest but... maybe tonight wouldn't be so bad. "I could join you..." She mewed, tucking her tail under her paws as she waited for other cats to gather.

As an unfamiliar voice rang throughout camp, Smokeytimber looked up from his grooming. He vaguely recognized the molly from around camp... Larkshine, was it? That was his sister's mentor. He stood, then padded over to her. "I'm happy to join you two." The large tom dipped his head to Juniperpaw, then gave her a small, reassuring smile. He didn't know her well, but maybe they could change that. She'd just been so quiet when they shared the apprentices' den... and he'd been so busy, he'd never had the chance to talk to her. But she was the deputy's kit, and he felt that meant they had something in common.
Larkshine seemed kind. And while he'd been the first of his littermates to earn his name, he hadn't done as much hunting as fighting. It'd be good to sharpen his instincts. Besides, it was a lovely day. "Would anyone else like to come?" He glanced around camp. Three was plenty for a patrol, but he hoped his Clanmates weren't lazy. When he was deputy, this would definitely not fly. A challenge seemed to spark in his gaze as he looked around. If anyone made eye contact, he'd make sure they joined.

Swifthearts ears perked up at the sound of a patrol being put together. She loved getting to go with clanmates, the eager and extraverted white furred she-cat bounded over excitedly to them and nodded her head happily in her usual good mood.
“I’ll go too!” She purred with a happy greeting

Just as Fernpaw left the elder's den, fresh from completing a task, a warrior called out to the camp. His ears pricked in attention. As the apprentice considered the offer Juniperpaw, Smokeytimber, and Swiftheart quickly joined Larkshine's patrol. Not a group he disliked in any way, though hopefully the latter two wouldn't try to talk to him much. With a flick of his white-tipped tail Fernpaw decided to participate, walking over and politely dipping his head to Larkshine. "I will also join the patrol," he said.

“Okay this seems like a good size patrol!” Larkshine mewed as all the cats gathered around. She quickly leapt to her feet and pranced out of camp. She led the patrol through the marshlands and into a dryer bit of their territory. This area wasn’t familiar to the warrior, but the scent of prey hung tightly in the air. “We can split off if we need to but stay close enough that we can get to you quickly if something shows up.” She mewed softly before disappearing into the underbrush.
The rustling of the leaves Larkshine brushed against caused a rabbit to dart out of the bush she stepped into. She quickly gave chase and sank her teeth into the thin skin of the rabbit then deep into its body until it stopped moving. ‘That was a close call.’ She thought to herself as she buried her kill in the cool mud.

Swiftheart gave a friendly wave to Fernpaw "hey, how's it going?" she meowed as they began their hunt.
She understood not everyone was as talkative and extraverted as she was, and that was okay. She wouldn't overwhelm Fernpaw with further questions.
Her 'daughter' Juni was here as well... Well it was not her daughter, it was her pretend daughter the secret which she told no one at all. She had covered for Heatherberry for so long and live a life of lies. It hurt her heart knowing she was deciving the young molly before her... but she knew what happened when forbidden romances were revealed, it ruined cats lives. She thought back to her brother Nightstar and how he had been outed by their clan after that cursed Batsong gave things away.
She was doing this to protect Heather and Sable... and maybe even protect Juni too. At least that is what she had to keep telling herself
She went over closer to her 'daughter' and gave her a little nuzzle "You grew up so fast... I'm sorry I was so busy for a lot of your youth" she whispered very quietly. "Nevertheless, let me see all you have learned today"
she blinked forcing the next words out of her mouth "I'm proud of you my daughter
Her ears flicked at Larkshine's instructions and she nodded acknowledging them.
Although the oldest warrior here she was still grateful for Larkshine taking lead on this. Ever since she was a kitten she had no desire to lead things and this remained true all the way into her adult life, she was very content to follow someone elses lead rather than head things herself.
She on the other paw, was very familiar with this part of their territory as she knew basically all parts of it from her experience here.
She was confident, perhaps almost too confident that she could protect everyone here from anything that could challenge them.
The usually humble warrior was on a recent streak of feeling very bold, she was swiftheart - one who became shadow under muse the loners training and one who killed demons like Fawnpatch.
Whatever was out here she could handle!
She slunk through the undergrowth disappearing and hiding in wait of prey.
She spotted a frog near by and shrugged deciding to go for it - she had eaten so many frogs in her life she wouldnt mind never seeing another one again - as she prefered mice or rabbits but she couldnt just let opportunites pass whne the clan needed food

She caught it with ease and smiled a bit burrying it for their return trip and she glanced around wondering what her patrol mates were up to, she kept her ears perked listening for any sounds from them - either for calls of help or of sounds of their hunting

Many more cats soon joined them, including Smokeytimber, Swiftheart, and Fernpaw. Juniperpaw shyly waved to the other apprentice, pleasantly surprised by her increased excitement to go on this patrol now that Fernpaw was here. He was just kind and pleasant company, someone she didn't have to be as scared around. A good friend.
Her mother was here too. Juniperpaw purred softly as Swiftheart nuzzled her gently, and she returned the action eagerly, affectionately pressing her nose to her mother's soft neck. As the patrol dispersed to hunt, the apprentice too padded off, scenting the air for signs of prey. She wasn't the best hunter-- gathering smaller, still items were much easier-- but she was at the very least better at it than she was at fighting.
It wasn't long before she found the scent of mice. The black apprentice flexed her claws as she got into a hunting crouch, stalking up to her prey slowly. Unfortunately, it seemed that another creature was also eying that exact same mouse. Talon sank into her shoulder, drawing blood as wings furiously beat the air around her. Oh StarClan how she hated owls. Juniperpaw writhed in the bird's hold, twisting around to slam her claws into the creature, which broke the hold and let her fall flat onto her face in the mud while the Owl readied itself for its next attack.
Owl used Talon Strike, dealing 5dmg at the cost of 10EP Juniperpaw used Claw, dealing 6dmg at the cost of 5EP

Of course there was trouble, it seemed it never really ever truly left. At the moment of a clanmates howls she flicked her ears, she would be lying if she said she hadnt expected something to go bad as it seemed something always did.
Eyes narrowed she darted towards the sound. As she got closer she felt a sense of panic seeing Juniperpaw being attacked by an owl. She could easily take out an owl, she knew this. But it was a lot harder when it was attacking someone you cared about yet alone were faking to be their mother to keep the secret of your missing friend. How in stars did she end up in this situaution?
She shook her head refocusing in an instant and charged down the owl.
She was so focused on the fight and the adrenaline rushing, preparing to attack this owl that she made a little slip "Heather! Hang on, I'm coming
She winced inwardly at the mistake, she couldnt let the secret out now, not when she hadnt even known what had happened to her med cat.
She clawed at the bird hoping that Juniperpaw had not realized or would just dismiss it as nothing.
Swiftheart uses claw on owl 10 dps and 10 EP

Smokeytimber nodded, satisfied, as two more cats joined. ShadowClan was anything but lazy. Swiftheart and Fernpaw... he didn't know either of them well, but Fernpaw had always struck him as a quiet, dutiful tom. He was surprised the older cat hadn't earned his warrior name yet. As diligent as he'd always seemed, Smokeytimber would've expected him to be named ages ago.
As they ventured out, Smokeytimber took the lead alongside Larkshine. He might not have been a senior warrior like her, but leading was his birthright, was it not? And Swiftheart didn't seem to have any desire to head the patrol, so he figured it was okay to at least pad alongside the older molly and see what it was like to lead a patrol firsthand.
They had just added a few beautiful catches to their haul - and he had just scented the most delightful smelling mouse - when he heard a distinct scuffling sound in the direction Juniperpaw had gone. His heart rate quickened. Was there trouble, or had she just caught something? No - an owl's screech sounded throughout the sparse woodland, and Smokeytimber stood at full attention, ears pricked and flicking right back against his head. He and Briarpaw had faced an owl not too long ago; he wouldn't pass up the opportunity to fight one again. Especially not if that owl was picking on his Clanmate. Juniperpaw was younger, smaller. He had to help. Still, deep down, he wondered if he would ever get the chance to hunt without some predator interrupting. He appreciated the practice, but StarClan seemed determined to send every owl and fox his way.
The burly tom rushed to Juniperpaw's cry, unsurprised to see Swiftheart already racing to her kit's defense. She yowled something, but he scarcely heard it over the owl's furious screeching and the blood rushing in his ears. "Get back, bird-brain!" Smokeytimber growled. He arrived at Swiftheart's side in no time. His dusky grey fur bushed out as he stared up at the owl, hatred burning his bright blue eyes. He gathered his haunches beneath him and leapt. Satisfaction rushed through him as he caught one of the owl's legs between his teeth. He bit down, hard, drawing blood easily with his powerful jaws. He landed less than gracefully, but the damage was done; the wretched thing could hardly fly straight anymore between the patrol's attacks. "Juniperpaw, are you okay?" Smokeytimber hardly looked over his shoulder as he asked - he wouldn't let the owl surprise him, but his Clanmates' safety was just as important.
Smokeytimber used Bite, dealing 8 damage and costing 5 EP!

The shrill cry from a clanmate, followed by a cry from an owl cause Larkshine’s tail to bristle and she darted off in the direction the sound was coming from. “Hold on, I’m coming.” She yowled as she ran through the forest’s underbrush. Mice and shrews scattered as she drew closer to the attack.
She broke through the underbrush and saw the owl on the ground trying to get back into the air. Without thinking, Larkshine leapt forward and sank her teeth into the bird’s neck. Its wings beat against her sides fiercely for a few moments then everything went still. She released the bird and turned to Juniperpaw.
“Oh stars! Are you ok Juniperpaw?!” Larkshine mewed as she bounced to the apprentice’s side. She quickly started to lick the mud and blood away from the young molly’s shoulder. “It’s not too bad! I just recovered from this same kind of attack and you’re so much younger you’ll heal in no time. I’m sure of it!” She purred trying to reassure and calm the young cat down. She was sure Juniperpaw would be fine, but she also knew the medicine cat needed to see it right away.
Larkshine nudged the apprentice to help her to her paw and then turned to the rest of the patrol. “I think we should head back to camp, Juniperpaw need to see the medicine cat. Also, I might have scared off most the prey when I ran in…” She mewed sheepishly. “I’ll grab our fresh kill, go ahead and make your way to camp.”
