A black tail lashed above the lake, darkening skies reflected as Sablestrike thought about his next action. He needed every extra paw putting in the work to cover those that were unable to carry out their duties, which meant allowing Quillkit to become an apprentice much quicker than he had wanted. Mind finally settled, the tom shouted for his clan to gather.
"Let all cats old enough to silently stalk the shadows gather by the lakeside for a clan meeting!"

Rome wasn’t built in one day. But it was burned in one.
He had grown to recognize that voice as the ShadowClan deputy's, Sablestrike. It was mostly he that called together the shadows for ceremonies and announcements. Quillkit was expected to come with his "clanmates" and dutifully listen to the tom's words until it was over. As much as he despised having to sit still and listen to this tom, he had to keep a strong front, especially in front of that yellow-eyed snake. He could not let his guard down yet, not even for a heartbeat.

Seeing the kit finally make his way with the rest of his clanmates, Sablestrike wasted no time in commencing the ceremony. "Quillkit, step forward." He had given much thought to who would mentor the kit, and while he would have loved to take the tom on himself he knew it would only hinder his ability to help the clan. "Keeping you here as you are is only leeching our clan's precious resources. You are fit enough to begin training. I will be assigning you a mentor immediately. Until the day you earn your warrior name you will be known as Quillpaw. Your mentor will be Pineblossom, I trust she will teach you the ways of the warrior and guide you well."
Sablestrike flashed the warrior an apologetic look before dismissing everyone. He knew the molly still had to look over her brood, but with such limited paws around he needed her help with this.
Sickness had not yet left Pineblossom, but she did her best to still assist around camp. She was not as sick as other cats, and so would do what she could with her limited stamina. It was still a surprise that Sablestrike would choose her to be the mentor for the new cat that had been brought into their clan. Pineblossom would do whatever she could to fulfill the mentor role to the new apprentice, though.
She shakily pushed herself up and approached Quillpaw. “I’m afraid I cannot touch noses with you. I do not want to risk making you sick,” Pineblossom told him. “But I am glad to be your mentor, Quillpaw. We will begin training soon.”

OOC: rolling here hehe: moderate
Quillkit, no, Quillpaw, resisted the urge to hiss at this "Sablestrike". Leeching off this Clan? As if he had asked for them to take him in! It has been torture being surrounded by these flea-bags that all look like ghosts walking around wheezing and coughing. He himself resisted the urge to sneeze as that yellow-eyed creature padded away and a new shadow padded up to him. She-- he assumed it was a she-- began explaining why she couldn't touch noses with him. Why in the world would they touch noses? He barely knew this- this "Pineflower" something. He bit back the urge to shriek at this sickly-sweet cat that his name was Bird, not Quillkit, Featherpaw, whatever they wanted to call him. But he held himself back, biting his tongue until he felt blood well up in his mouth.
