Mothkit’s Apprentice Ceremony

The smooth, well-worn stone of the Tallrock was simmering with the light heat of the day as Brindlewhisker settled herself atop the ceremonial seat. Straightening up, the Deputy’s voice rang out with a sharp note of purpose as she called out the familiar summons, ”Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!"

Yes! Mothkit knew that this has to be for him, he wished his father was there but the green-eyed tom didn't see the grey pelt of Smokepelt. He didn't mind, maybe he'd show up sooner or later. He had a new focus to gain on, which was the cat who stood on top the talltock. All though, just in case the tom sat on his rump with everyone else, waiting for something to be said.

Sitting near the back edge of the crowd with a blank look across his muzzle per usual, Smokepelt watched as his son, Mothkit, wobbled towards Tallrock. Today, his newest and youngest son would become an apprentice and the older tom wondered who Brindlewhisker would make his mentor.

Staring down at Mothkit, Brindlewhisker's gaze only remained trained upon her young kin for a brief heartbeat before idly darting to Smokepelt for an even briefer interval. Blinking down at the young green eyed tom, a thoughtful glint twisted within the pale depths of her gaze. "Mothkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to find your place among the Clan." Brindlewhisker began, voice carrying a sharp undercurrent, "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Mothpaw. Smokepelt shall be your mentor. I trust that he will pass down everything he knows."

Mothpaw looked at his father, unsure if the emotionally disconnected cat would really be a good mentor for him but he smiled and puffed out his chest anyways. He purred out and craned his head to touch noses with his father and a gentle rumble filled the air.

Standing up upon hearing his name, Smokepelt walked over to his new apprentice, his son to be exact, and touched noses with him. "We'll start training tomorrow," the tall, dark grey and white tom mewed blandly.
