The half moon was nearly high in the sky, lighting the landscape below in a eerie blue hue. It was a cold night unlike any other thus far, and dew was quick to coat the grass, the moss, and the stone.
And while the half moon was present, it seemed far and distant. Wind tugged at the fur of the medicine cats arriving to their meeting place, as if trying to beckon them away.

There was the usual uneasiness as Heatherberry reached the Moonstone alongside her mentor, but tonight the eerie blue chill of the night sky made her think she should have completely passed this one up. She cast a wary glance in Burdock's direction, large paws continuing to push forward and take a rest beside the opening to Mothermouth. It seemed no matter where she sat, the wind dragged through her fur as though coaxing her to return home as she waited for the others to slowly trickle in.

Fawnshine knew this feeling all too well.
The strange uneasiness of a distant warning, an uncanny reference to that intuitive prickling that threatened her fur to bristle with each carefully treaded step. Long strides led two of ThunderClan's medicine cats up to the familiar landscape stretching ahead of their eyes; Highstones, where other medicine cats would sit awaiting them. Echosong and her were the second to arrive, it seemed.
Muttering a polite, yet brief greeting to Shadowclan's medicine cats, Fawnshine sat near the Mothermouth where she usually did, silently thankful for her coat of fur on such an unusually cold night. Something stirred in her, tugging quietly as if to beckon her away. But she resisted.

The tension was almost like a hungry claw in the air, rippling around Burdock and Heather. The mentor of the pair caught the apprentices eyes and she instinctually closed the distance between them, protective and watching. They made it to the entrance, but Burdockroot didn't want to wait. Stalling by the entrance, she glanced back.
Long fur whipping in the wind, the tom narrowed his eyes as he approached Mothermouth. Echosong pressed close to his mentor, unable to shake the unease he felt in the pit of his stomach.
"Something is...wrong." he mumbled, forcing his fur flat. He felt as though something would happen at any moment, and his mentor's prophecy from last moon replayed in his mind.

Smokepetal's journey to the Moonstone for the first time since Plumleaf had died had not been a peaceful one. As the Mothermouth finally came into view, she let out a quick sigh at the shapes of other cats waiting there, grateful both for the fact that they had made it safely, and that she was no longer alone. StarClan usually seemed so close by on these nights, watchful, protective... but tonight, the forest was cold, and dark, and as she traveled she couldn't help but feel like there were eyes on her... and not the friendly kind. Smokepetal picked up her pace, loping towards the group with her head tucked low, ears slicked back against the wind. She chirped a greeting to them, immediately picking up on the shared tension.
So it wasn't just her. Everyone seemed spooked.
Eager to be closer to the Moonstone, despite the nagging feeling that it was a bad idea, Smokepetal's paws carried her down the tunnel and towards the familiar glow. Finding her usual spot, the medicine cat settled down and leaned forward, touching her nose to the stone.

Sandyshell
This feeling was too familiar to make much note of. But the biting cold and looming prophecy made her miserable enough as it was. Sandyshell entered the meeting as one might expect her to. Clearly nervous, distracted, and slightly shaking at best. The open fields screamed at a distance, Everything is wrong! But then again, when wasn’t it? Dread swam in her stomach. Thoughts of doom pooled inside her head. Though on edge, she tried to maintain her appearance as best she could. This is just a normal meeting, she begged herself to believe.
Yet as the fearful molly joined the other medicine cats, she immediately realized the differences in their demeanor. Echosong was the first to voice it. Something was wrong. Her blood iced over. Did that mean it wasn't just all in her head? She recognized that feeling of panic starting to rise in her chest. Just ignore it, she told herself. Sandyshell held her breath and swiftly rushed behind Smokepetal, equally as eager to hurry along. She stared at the shining crystal with apprehension, then fear. She didn’t want to do this. Do it anyway. It’s your duty. She settled next to the Moonstone, despite her restlessness, and forced her nose against its surface. Here's hoping Starclan could at least clear things up for her.

Wrenpaw noted her mentor’s anxiety before she registered her own. It had been a background buzz in her mind as they made their way to Highstones. It wasn’t until she realized Sandyshell was more on edge than usual that she began to take notice of her own tension. She couldn’t identify why. It was just a feeling in the air, one that made her fur stand on end. Clearly, she and Sandyshell weren’t the only ones on edge, for the other medicine cats seemed to be just as tense when the two of them greeted them. Echosong voiced the disturbance, and Wrenpaw’s stomach tightened.
Pressing tight to Sandyshell’s side, both to try to provide some reassurance and to feel some herself, Wrenpaw remained unusually quiet, finding the nerves stealing her voice away. Instead of speaking beyond a soft greeting, she simply followed her mentor down to the moonstone. She watched Sandyshell quickly press against the stone’s surface, and took one last look around the room and at the other medicine cats before she settled down beside her, tucked her paws underneath her chest, and followed suit.
Echosong dipped his head in greeting to those who joined them at the entrance. He could sense the apprehension in their twitching whiskers, nervous glances and pause in their step before they descended into the depths of the cavern. With a nod to Fawnshine he followed after them, taking his usual place at the base of the stone and pressed his warm nose against its cold surface.

Letting Burdock take the lead, Heatherberry followed closely after, whiskers away from her mentors swishing tail. The body language of the other medicine cats did nothing to ease the anxiety that made her overgrown claws flex beneath her. Perhaps it was nothing, but unusual things seemed to happen often these days.
The dark tunnel opened into the moonlit cave that held the Moonstone. Just this once - and never again - she would crowd herself next to the others, tail curling tight around her as a barrier between her and Echosong, allowing room for her companion. Black nose touching shining stone, Heatherberry closed her eyes.

The tension in the air, though silent, was palpable. From exchanged glances to nervous murmurs, Fawnshine couldn't help but feel slightly unsettled. The prophecy from the last half-moon's meeting replayed in her mind—a haunting reminder of what was to come; and tonight might just be it. Not that she hoped it'd come true, of course, but the prophecies she received seldom were wrong.
Shaking her head, she along with the other, slightly younger medicine cats joined in to travel through the dark tunnel they've grown accustomed to, each holding their breaths in quiet apprehension. She exchanged a look with Echosong before pressing her nose up against the cold Moonstone, sleep greeting her with surprising ease.

Leading the medicine cats through the tunnels, the group was quiet. Finally. Perhaps her and Heather berry could come on their own next time. Settling down next to her apprentice, Burdockroot pressed her nose against cold stone.

A flash of red settles into orange and pink, as the red sun rises and splits into two. The stars that were there turn into many, many little red dots and the clouds form into an amalgamous shape, ever twisting and churning, nothing ever distinct. Suddenly, loud wails, gurgles, and shrieks split the air, until a swift and sudden deafening silence seems to grind everything to a halt.
A small cat steps forwards, its features almost indiscernable, but its eyes were piercing despite there being no colour. “Please” It croaked in a shaky, quiet voice, “Pl- Move about and try as you may, numbers soon will begin to fade. The misfortune festers, decays, and grows, killing all that which once was known. Your only hope clinging to what remains, look forth, and see the red path right that lays. A future uncertain, if you hold still. Run, dear kits, the trial is here.” As the small cat spoke, blood started to pour from its colourless eyes, ears, and nose. It began to sob shakily, but its cries were cut off as well as it collapsed into a puddle and sunk into the grass within a blink of an eye.
