September 2021 Medicine Cat Meeting

Hentooth made the journey to Mothermouth alone. Last time had been so different. Her father, her mentor, her brother… all had been right in the world. Other than Tawnyflare, of course. The calico snorted, lowering her head as a gust of wind blew rain straight in her face. It was strange how rarely she thought of her coward mother… but it wasn’t surprising. More important things had happened. More weighty things had been laid on her shoulders. Now, for the first time, she met her fellow medicine cats as the medicine cat of WindClan. With a pretty awesome new name to boot. Sure, it didn’t sound medicinecat-ish, but it sounded… like her. It fit.

Climbing up the last slope, she sat next to Mothermouth, waiting for the other medicine cats. Maybe… maybe she could make friends with some of them, even. Ha. The gloomy drizzle must have been getting to her. Usually she wouldn’t consider talking to cats from other Clans… but… hey, some of them couldn’t be that bad, right?

Despite the days still being warm, the nights were definitely beginning to cool down, constantly reminding Muddythorn of the coming harsh season. He had never appreciated the warm weather, especially with his thick pelt, but herbs and prey were always in short supply in leaf-bare, even more so when the snow set in. Although, he did love the snow. It was one of his earliest memories, of being a kit and waking up one day to see the camp covered in it, then playing with Birdsong and Shadewing and throwing snowballs at each other. It was strange to think that his cousin wasn't part of the clan any more, and he found himself missing her quite often. Obviously, she wouldn't know about the recent ceremony he'd had, and how now he was a whole lot more responsible. Or at least had to be.

Muddythorn had found that becoming a full medicine cat hadn't been as much of a leap of faith as he had been expecting. After all, Beechface was still always there. The main thing that scared him was one day she wouldn't be. But if he stayed in the present, all would be fine. He could focus on the meeting ahead. It wasn't long before the two of them made it to mother-mouth, to find the Windclan medicine cat apprentice, if he remembered correctly. What surprised most was that she was completely alone, with no mentor in sight. Hopefully Smallbean was alright.

"Hi!" He said once they got close enough so he wouldn't have to shout. "You're Henpaw, right, from Windclan?"

Dovefrost didn't say much of anything when he approached highstones. There had been so much going on as of late.. His mind had been rather occupied by his own events and things going on around him. The white tom dipped his head to the two medicine cats as he joined them in waiting, but he didn't do much of anything else.

Beechface made the loathsome trip up to highstones with Muddythorn, and while she was proud of her now-former apprentice, she couldn't help the way her ears flicked back and her tail twitched in irritation at both making the journey and the fine drizzle and humidity that weighed her pelt down. The night was cooler than most had been recently, which she was grateful for. She might've been more grateful if she could spend it on Skyclan territory.

Arriving at mothermouth, Beechface was glad to see that Skyclan hadn't been the first to arrive. She inclined her head to the calico, though it was clear which of the two Skyclanners was more enthusiastic about meeting a new peer. She wasn't sure she trusted Windclan, and she certainly didn't like most of them, though their medicine cat was far too young to have ever been involved in helping Dawnhawk, so Beechface wouldn't hold that against her.

"Is Smallbean alright?" Strange that he wasn't here, and while Beechface didn't exactly like him (or most of Windclan) she at least bore the patched tom less ill-will than some. If something had been announced at the last gathering about the she-cat in his place becoming a medicine cat apprentice, she'd likely missed it, having been too wrapped up in her own thoughts. "I... Don't believe I ever caught your name. I'm Beechface."

"Dovefrost," She greeted the Thunderclan medicine cat as he approached with a relatively friendly wave of her tail, though her single eye drifted past him, searching for signs of Shadowclan or Riverclan. She would like to get this over with and get out of the rain.

Hentooth stared out into the rain, grateful for the shelter the cliff provided against the drizzle. She had a short pelt, and WindClan cats hardly interacted with water. Her experience with water was mainly drinking from puddles. Oh, and being told stories of tunnels flooding and collapsing. A voice penetrated through the rain, and she pricked up her ears, seeing a dark brown tom make his way towards her, followed by a cat she vaguely recognized as Dovefrost and SkyClan’s medicine cat. Hentooth dipped her head to them.

“Hentooth. Smallbean’s gone.” She mewed abruptly. She could leave it at that… but if there was any chance, any at all that the other medicine cats knew something… “He went out on a herb patrol… never came back. Daystar gave me my new name not long ago. And you are?” The last words were directed towards the dark brown tom whose name was eluding her. He was Beechface’s apprentice, yes… something to do with Hayglow…hmmm.

Sitting straight and tall with her tail neatly wrapped around her paws, Hentooth banished any thoughts of her mentor’s likely demise from her mind. She could and would go on without him… but she’d make sure WindClan remembered his name.

For quite a few reasons, Cloverheart's mood had been irreparably soured long before she made it to Highstones. Dennis' recent disappearance, attending her first meeting alone, the fine rain soaking through her fur, the lack of sleep the night before... She felt this night was doomed before it started. But she'd arrived, and after giving herself a moment to try– fruitlessly –to shake the water from her pelt, she began the climb.

Seeing she was nearly the last to arrive made her ears flatten. She was more than ready to get this over with and go back to camp, crawl into her nest and sleep for days.

Hen... something had just finished saying something about Daystar giving her her new name, though Cloverheart missed what it was. Was Smallbean gone, then? Hopefully not– she liked him well enough. Hopefully he'd just been horribly sick, and nothing bad had happened to him. Dipping her head to the rest of the medicine cats, Cloverheart settled down, grateful to be off her paws for a moment. "Hi, everyone. Nice night, huh?" She mewed humorlessly, pointedly focusing her attention on WindClan and ThunderClan's medicine cats, paying no mind to the two from SkyClan.

Dovefrost nodded to the others as they approached, giving a small smile to Beechface. "Glad all of you made it. Congratulations on the name Hentooth." Green eyes turned away from the group and started scanning the horizon for any sign of Shadowclan but it seemed unlikely at this point.. If they waited any longer, they would just wind up missing their window if they weren't careful.

"Let's get inside and out of this rain yeah? I'm sure all of you want to get back to your dens as soon as possible." The white tom stood from his spot and started his way inside the tunnel. Once inside he settled down in his usual spot pressing his nose to the stone, ready for whatever Starclan needed to tell him tonight.

“Why- um… thank you, Dovefrost.” To be honest, Hentooth had been intently looking at Clover… stars, what was her name? For the life of her, Hentooth couldn’t remember… but she was, somehow, disappointed that Cloverusedtobepaw seemed not to remember her. I mean, come on. You influenced my life and don’t remember me… but I don’t remember your name so I suppose that’s fair. At Dovefrost’s next words she started and quickly nodded her head, following the white tom into the dark tunnels, only absentmindedly hearing whatever words were being said.

Mothermouth echoed quietly with every pawstep that she took… if it had been any other place she’d be spooked. But here, close to StarClan, it seemed nothing could harm her. She let out a sigh of pure contentment as the Moonstone came into view, bathing the cavern and the cats within it in a blue/white light. Hentooth followed Dovefrost’s lead and touched her nose to the Moonstone, quickly falling asleep…

"Muddythorn. I hope Smallbean returns safely soon." He was caught off-guard by the other medicine cat's abruptness, but he tried not to be offended. It can't of been easy to lose you mentor before you even finish your training; he knew that first hand, even if Dawnhawk leaving was definitely in the whole clan's best interest. Muddythorn was still grateful when the Thunderclan medicine cat saved them, not only from the horrible drizzle, but also the conversation at paw.

Despite visiting the moonstone fairly recently, it never failed to amaze the tom. He followed the others into the bright shimmering light and took his place by the rock, and was asleep the second he lay down.

Swiftly after she arrived, Dovefrost decided they would be officially starting their meeting– and gave her Hentooth's name, thank the stars –and Cloverheart couldn't have been more grateful. She gave Hentooth another look, trying a smile, but the mottled she-cat was already pressing forward to make the descent into Mothermouth. Sighing, Cloverheart rose to her paws to follow, not wholly thrilled about staggering down the slope with so many others present. It was out of the rain, at least. She gave her pelt a shake once they reached the Moonstone, an attempt at either clearing away any water or shaking off the nerves from being RiverClan's only cat present she wasn't sure. A sigh, and she settled down next to the Moonstone, half-curled up, pressing her nose to it and letting the familiar cold pull her away.
