Bright, early-morning sun shone through the tree canopy ahead as Violetpaw made her way into the forest of Skyclan territory, walking beside Littlepaw. The two apprentices had both wanted to practice their hunting, and had a warrior keeping an eye on them just in case. Luckily, said clanmate was very happy to keep his distance and give the two young cats the illusion they were out alone, like the mature cats they were. Despite sharing a den with Littlepaw, Violetpaw had only interacted with the other apprentice on a few occasions, but had already decided she like the she-cat's cheerful disposition. The pair (trio, technically) neared the creek, and the scent of prey intensified immediately, and Violetpaw was alert, trying to pin-point the position of her first catch.

Soon the scent of a sparrow caught her attention, and she soon spotted it with sharp blue eyes. Dropping into her now well-practised hunting crouch, the apprentice carefully stalked the little brown bird. As she pounced, however, her front paw crushed a twig, alerting the animal to her presence, causing it to fly to safety. Although Violetpaw was getting better at dealing with disappointment and failure through Graywind's careful training, it still stung to miss the very first catch of the hunt.

Littlepaw watched as violetpaw tried and failed at hunting a bird. She wanted to show off a little so when littlepaw got the scent of another bird she instantly got into a crouch. Littlepaw snuck up on the tiny unsuspecting bird and pounced. Littlepaw missed the bird completely as she yet again went face first into a tree. She got to her paw and looked over at violetpaw. "We speak not a word!" she mewed laughing.

Violetpaw smiled sympathetically as Littlepaw also failed to make her catch, sharing a friendly laugh in return. "Everybody makes mistakes, I guess, even senior warrior miss their prey sometimes. But my lips are sealed, promise!" As much as she hoped Littlepaw wouldn't be harsh on herself about it, Violetpaw desperately hoped she would make this next catch, even if it were to return her mood to what it had been before the miss. Luckily, she soon noticed the scent of a nearby squirrel on the breeze, and she began to creep towards it, praying to Starclan that she would catch it this time.

When she pounced and her claws sunk into its grey pelt, she breathed a sigh of relief before swiftly killing it, glad she had learned how to do that without making her stomach turn. Proudly, Violetpaw picked up her catch and returned to Littlepaw, hoping her friend had had a more successful attempt this time.

Littlepaw nodded in approval at the hunt when suddenly she caught the scent of a lizard. Littlepaw slowely padded towards the reptile in a stealthy crouch. Its tiny little body was sunbathing on a rock which meant the perfect time to catch it. Littlepaw shook her butt a few times for good luck before pouncing on the lizard.

Her claws outstretched landed perfectly on the lizard and before it could even react, she already bit its neck, killing it. She padded up to violetpaw with a happy smile, as the lizard dangled from her mouth.

"Looks like our luck has taken a turn for the better." Violetpaw said happily as she continued the hunt. The warm weather had driven many animals to the creek for water, and one such animal was a shrew that the apprentice spotted. She stalked it, careful not to misplace her paw and slip into the crystal waters. She pounced, caught the shrew and killed it in one continuous motion, happy that the hunt was going better now. She kicked some dirt over her catch and continued searching for prey.

Littlepaw didnt want to fall behind and so she went off to catch a rodent. She couldnt tell which rodent it was but it was food either way. Littlepaw slashed at the little creature. It had no chance of escape as the claws struck the poor creature.

Littlepaw padded back towards the others with a smile. "How much prey are we getting?" she asked after setting the rodent down with the other dead prey.

Violetpaw was very happy the mood had lightened, "Definitely more than earlier!" The apprentice responded jokingly. She spotted a fluffy, cotton-tailed rabbit not too far away and moved quickly as to not let it get away. She leapt for it from quite a distant, using her strong hind legs to power her forward as she pounced and trapped the animal between her claws. She killed and buried it, still cheerful about the positive turn in luck of the hunt.
