Subject: Icehearts Name Change Ceremony. Sun Apr 09, 2023 12:24 am
It hadn't been long since Iceheart's litter had passed away, born already dead and without the chance to experience a warrior's life. Nightstar and Honeylight had gotten to speaking away from Iceheart, conversing over their shared grief for Iceheart when they had gotten somehow onto the topic of her name. It was not exactly surprising information to know that Iceheart was insecure about her name, but he had been surprised to work out that she was very affected by the name given to her. Their discussion had stretched longer than Nightstar had expected of it, but in the end, they had worked something out.
Nightstar made quick work of jumping up the rock, Nightstar yowled, hoping and praying that this was timed right, that this would help lift her spirits. "All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"

Snowfoot was among the first cats to take a seat at the base of the rock. The mood in camp was somber, and she wondered what Nightstar had in mind. Probably a warrior ceremony, knowing him. No tact whatsoever. Careful not to show any emotion (especially not disapproval), Snowfoot took her place near the Jaggedrock.

Honeylight
Shadowclan Camp
Honeylight joined the gathering crowd. Even the normally cheerful tom was downtrodden as of late, it was hard not to be after what happened to Iceheart. His heart ached for her, and for the siblings he would never meet, never see grow up. But he tried to muster up a little bit of energy as he sat in the crowd. He knew, at least, what this ceremony would be, and he hoped Iceheart would like what he and Nightstar came up with.

Thalia joined the gathered cats at the announcement call, the sadness that lingered over the camp causing her usually cheerful demeanor to be far more subdued. Iceheart had been her apprentice; it felt like a failure, then, in some way, that she didn't quite know how to be there for her now. She wanted to comfort her, to somehow make things better or at least to apologize for not knowing what to say. She had never been a mother, but- she wanted to be a shoulder to lean on, at least. She resolved, in that moment, to seek out her former apprentice some time soon: if she stood by while she was hurting, then she had failed to care.Even Leopardsun, busy as she always was, couldn't escape the shadow over ShadowClan's camp. It had hung there for a while, the sting of loss something she was all too familiar with; and Iceheart was a good cat. She had always been an honorable and reasonable warrior as far as Leopardsun could tell. It was just another cruelty of fate, or coincidence, or whatever she allowed herself to believe- whatever it was, this was wholly undeserved.

Swiftheart joined her snowfoots side. She sat down quietly wondering what meeting this was all about. The camp was mourning the loss of the kits and it was quiet even with so many around

Silverkit
Silverkit was laying outside the nursery, looking up at the moon. He couldn’t bear to be in the den, outside of the hours he took to sleep, but he had nothing better to do than lay down and think. The heavy quiet that settled over camp was broken by Nightstar’s voice, calling the Clan together. Ear twitching, Silverkit’s head rolled to look towards his leader, though he didn’t move from his place.

Harriertalon sat alongside Leopardsun, the very obvious feeling of loss heavy on a lot of ShadowClan pelts that gathered today. It was beyond her what Nightstar could possibly be calling for on this solemn day.
For once, Batswarm was not thinking about himself as he gathered alongside his clanmates. News had spread fast and quietly about Iceheart's... About Iceheart. He would remain respectful today.

Iceheart
There was a heaviness that Iceheart could not escape. Though several days had passed since her kitting, and several days had passed since they were buried, and several days had passed since she had lost hope of the title of ‘mother’…The pain had not yet left. She could not even say that it had gotten better. And worse still, she was still stuck in the nursery for a few more days while her body recovered from the kitting. She was able to get out and walk more, at least, take a bit of refuge from that wretched place for the time being…but there was no escaping it until her body had fully healed.
The call from Nightstar outside reached Iceheart’s ears. She quickly pushed up to her paws, eager to take any excuse to get out of the nursery for a time. She walked out, her movements still stiff and a little pained, but she reached a nice shaded spot outside to observe whatever meeting was to take place. Even though she did not hold her head quite as high as she used to, she tried to look at attention and as strong as she typically did. Though she knew that her lost kits had affected several cats in her clan, she did not want that pain to linger in any of them. It was better to look like she was already moving past it.
Nightstar could see and sense the apprehension of his clanmates as they gathered, uncertain and unknowing of what this meeting call was about. This, in Nightstars opinion, was a long time coming and he'd have done it much sooner had he had the confidence to do so. But now, he thought that maybe this was for the best now, maybe he'd be able to help her in this way.
"Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for who they are. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment on Iceheart will be known as Pineblossom, for this cat was not fairly or accurately named many moons ago, and thus deserving of a name that represents the cat they have always been." Nightstar stood at the top of the rock, waiting and watching for a few heartbeats before he jumped down, standing stock still and almost fearfully as he waited for Pineblossom's reaction.

A name change was not what she had been expecting when the meeting was called, and it being her name change ceremony, even less so. She stared with wide eyes at Nightstar as he began the ceremony in proper. Part of her wanted to call out and stop the ceremony. She had been given the name Ice- from her mother, after all.
”Icepaw. Who named you? A blind queen?”
She blinked hard, trying to forget the words from the Dark Forest cat in her youth. Perhaps Ice- had never been the most accurate based on her coat, but her mother must have known something with it. Be it her white paws, or her-
”Icepaw, you're now Iceheart. A beautiful representation of your tragic apprenticeship, don't you think?”
Dark Forest cats, they haunted her with every utterance of her name. It felt like she had been cursed when she was given that name. It had become so comfortable and commonplace to hear it as her name that she no longer flinched at it, but there was always a heaviness in the air when someone repeated it. Perhaps it was not until now that she even noticed anymore. She had grown so used to the vision of herself as someone with a heart of ice that she had believed it must be true. But here was her leader, standing before her and telling her that she was never given a name that she deserved. She was not Iceheart. She was…
Pineblossom.
It sounded odd. As it echoed in her mind, she tried to pull it apart. Pineblossom. Pineblossom. She was…Pineblossom.
Pineblossom blinked at Nightstar, coming out of her momentary shock at the whole thing. She blinked again, slower, and looked at the cats around her. It felt like he was speaking to someone else, but no, he was looking to her. He had presented her with a new name. No longer did she have the prefix from a mother she was never close with, or warrior name from a false leader. This new name, from her real leader, and spoken with genuine love and care. Nightstar must have thought long about it. It was her new name, just for her.
She rose to her paws and she murmured, “It is wonderful, Nightstar. Thank you. I will treasure this new name.” Pineblossom bowed her head, partially to show respect and partially to hide the tears that were forming in her eyes. Everything was still awful. She still held the pain of losing her litter and everything hurt like a deep, old wound…but this name provided a momentary respite.
"Pineblossom!" "Pineblossom! Pineblossom!!" Both Harriertalon and Batswarm called out the she-cats new name. Batswarm normally didn't involve himself in these matters, nor say anything when he happened to be there. But this was different. This was special and deserved. Names didn't mean much to him, but he didn't much care for the harsh name of Iceheart.
If anyone knew what beauty was, it was him. And Pineblossom was a beautiful name.
she meowed in celebration for her friends new name.
She never realized just how much Pineblossom had not liked her old name. But she was glad that it was something that she hopefully would like now more.
Leopardsun cheered for her clanmate's new name with the rest of her Clan- a name that was truly earned.Thalia held her breath when the reason for this meeting was announced. Her former apprentice was a good cat, one deserving of a good name. Something kind, and not a cruel joke made by a cat that was bitter and long-since dead. Something that suited her.
Pineblossom- that was a good name, she thought. Despite the hardships she had been forced to live through, she had blossomed into a wonderful cat that Thalia was glad she had the chance to meet.
"Pineblossom! Pineblossom!"
Her voice carried over the crowd, hoping that the cheers could- however briefly- lighten the warrior's spirits.
"Pineblossom! Pineblossom!" Tawnyshadow joined her voice with her clanmates', cheering the new name over and over again. Iceheart really was a cruel name, and she had heard rumors about how Pineblossom had been given such a name. But that didn't matter anymore. As a respected warrior of Shadowclan, she deserved a name fitting of her, and all she had done for her Clan.
Changing the name of a warrior... Well, that hadn't been what Moondancer expected, and she strongly doubted that her name would ever be the subject of such a ceremony, given how much it suited her. Iceheart, though... Yes, the name wasn't quite suited to her. And given the hardship her former mentor had suffered recently, perhaps that change was deserved. And Pineblossom - It was a pretty name.
"Pineblossom!" Moondancer called out with the rest of her clanmates, though she kept to her own spot in the crowd near Batswarm.
