Fallowpaw hadn’t much interest in pretending that this was a Gathering. It wasn’t Fourtrees, it was just WindClan camp. And it wasn’t a sacred time of peace for all clans to lay down their claws-- it was just another reminder that his mother was murdered barely more than a moon ago. The tom had been content to just keep his bees out of everyone else’s bee’s wax while they played make believe with this “Gathering”, but the sound of bickering rose to his ears and sent a shiver down his spine. Just like last time, he thought ominously as he looked up to see one of his fellow apprentices attempting to challenge Raisha. His breath caught in his throat when the dark specter raised a paw to strike at Blazepaw. He knew what those claws were capable of-- but luckily no scent of blood reached him and he let out a shaking sigh. Relief for his clanmate was soon swept up by a burning hot anger. This is just like last time, where no one had any sense to back down. Only one moon later and no one seemed to learn anything. Two queens were murdered, and yet here WindClan was, throwing themselves into another pointless battle, trying to prove they were warriors. “Blazepaw, you’ve got no more sense than a rabbit!” Fallowpaw hissed, shoving himself up onto his paws and stalking to the opposite side of camp. “If you want to get yourself killed like one, then keep poking that fox!”
“Talk about rabbits!” Blazepaw snapped. “I’m standing up for myself and my Clan and acknowledging that something’s wrong here, okay? Not like you guys who’d rather hide in a hole and pretend this is fine!”

Just as the round moon reached its apex, signaling the start of the Gatherings’ announcements, a quietness fell unto the clans. The air was silent as though the forest itself was holding its breath, before a small twinkle appeared in the ever-dark sky above. Another twinkle followed. Another. The sky lit up with a brilliance of stars and then some of those stars began to fall in a dizzying shower of comets. StarClan had returned. StarClan was here. StarClan would help.
The cats who had lied in wait for their served purpose felt a tugging within their soul. Fatigue overtook their limbs as life was transferred to the stars. Their pelts almost seemed to shine with the same glitter as the Silverpelt above. With their sacrifice, StarClan would walk among the clans, and the Dark Forest would be driven out for good.
The stars have appeared in the sky! StarClan is coming down to the forest to assist. All sacrifices have been notified, and are given one post for their transformation into ghosts. When the sacrifices have turned into ghosts, StarClan cats are allowed to post and lead the charge against the Dark Forest.
As a reminder, Dark Forest stats can be found here and the StarClan stats can be found here. Medicine Cats with the appropriate rank will give their allies a Defending Buff. Please keep all battle rules in mind during the fight.
Additionally, given that May 8 is Mother’s Day, we are granting a special continuance for posts around that time. Any posts made from 9PM EST Saturday (May 7) to 9PM EST Sunday (May 8) will have a 48-hour continuance for responses rather than the typical 24-hour rule. Any posts made before or after the allotted time will still have the 24-hour response rule in place.
Coyotegrin was busy running errands for Shrikestorm. With a tight grimace, she made note that Whisperpaw was sitting and conversing with Lionfur. She passed by her apprentice with a head toss, attempting to casually get them to follow her to Hawkheart. She didn't want to cause a scene with the Dark Forest Tom, so she kept walking.
Walking up to Hawkheart, she settled down close to his sprawled stomach and tucked her tail over her paws. Looking down at the time - a nice change of pace - she purred in amusement. "Still waiting for me?" She teased. Her conversation was cut short as the stars started to glitter the sky. For once, she was speechless, before nervousness tugged at her stomach.
Ryepaw hiss at Fallowpaw. "Don't you dare call Blazepaw a rabbit. She is doing more than you could ever do in a lifetime you coward." His tail and fur was fluffed up as he hissed at the older apprentice. As he was talking suddently the sky opened up and the stars were visiable again.
Specklepaw raised her head to look at the sky. never before had she seen so many stars! her blue eyes widened and she turned to Blazepaw. "Look, the stars are here!" she signed.
fatigue dragged at her paws. she crouched down and starred at the sky. the spots on her beautifully speckled pelt shone like the stars themselves as her body faded away.
All was quiet for a moment as the stars began once more to light up the sky. Even as Specklepaw fell to the ground, her spirit leaving her body behind, a swirling form began to appear above her. It started out wispy, incorporeal, and then slowly began to grow solid. A lithe silver tabby she-cat took shape, seemingly rising from above where Specklepaw should have been. Her light, sky-blue eyes were sorrowful, but also determined. Stars shone through her pelt. "Thank you," she murmured respectfully to the apprentice's silent form. "Your sacrifice will be honored until the end of time... and I hope that mine will, too."
Then, fully solid now, the she-cat stepped over Specklepaw and walked further into camp. "I am Graybriar," she announced with a clear, beautiful voice. "I once lived here just like you. I am from StarClan... and we have finally returned. WindClan, fight with me! It's time to drive out these shadows, once and for all!" And with a rousing yowl, her starry, graceful form leapt at Raisha, taking advantage of her surprise to trip her ghostly opponent.
Graybriar used Experienced Steps on Raisha, dealing 10 (8+2) damage and costing 10 stamina. Raisha is stunned for one turn.
Sagepaw looked nervously up at the once motionless sky, her eyes filling with fear as it erupted in a blaze of stars. Starclan had returned...
She was suddenly terrified, looking around for her siblings. She'd wanted to do something meaningful for her clan, but she hadn't expected it to end so quickly. The reality of her choice was staring her in the face and she trembled under the weight of it. her entire body trembled, a sudden exhaustion filling her limbs and dragging her to the ground. She took a deep breath, her eyes drifting shut. Her expression was peaceful, almost serene as her body faded away.
The sound of arguing reached her ears, and Brackenwing felt her stomach roll. Not again... Had they all learned nothing? Struggling to keep her fur flat, she padded forward to stand beside her brother, giving Fallowpaw and Blazepaw both a sharp look. "Enough! We mustn't fight among ourselves." She mewed sternly. Her eyes lifted uneasily to the moon above, widening at the sudden streaks of light in the sky.
"What's-?" Specklepaw's words reached her, and Brackenwing glanced at her, fur lifting as the apprentice sank to the ground. What in starclan's name was going on? For a cat to just drop dead...?
And then she saw Sagepaw fold, laying still. No... Nonono. "Sagepaw..." She choked out, rushing to her fallen sibling's side. The long-furred tabby's expression was strangely peaceful for how still her body now was. Rabbitdung... Why her? Why Specklepaw? What had either of them done to deserve to die tonight?
The voice of a stranger made Brackenwing's head lift, teeth bared instinctively in a snarl that did not die away as the cat introduced herself. Graybriar... Once lived here... Starclan? So... They were real, then? The stranger had seemingly come out of nowhere... And was attacking Raisha with a yowl. Well, that was certainly something Brackenwing could get behind. Raisha had killed her mother, it was only fair that she help kill her in turn. Killing her and driving out the dark forest sounded like an excellent idea. Without another moment of hesitation, Brackenwing leaped forward with unsheathed claws. Her grief, wonder... That could all be dealt with later. Once these dark creatures were defeated.
Brackenwing used Front Paw Strike on Raisha for -7 sp, dealing -8 damage. Brackenwing used Swift Strike on Raisha for -10 sp, dealing -5 damage. Moor Runner active, damage taken reduced by -1.
Brackenwing 40 / 40 hp 83 / 100 sp (100 - 7 - 10)
Graybriar 80 / 80 hp 160 / 170 sp
Raisha 77 / 100 hp (90 - 8 - 5) 180 / 180 sp
Whoops, double-teamed poor Raisha. Bracken will attack another free opponent when I can.
Whisperpaw tensed when they saw stars twinkling high above in the sky. It caused their breath to catch in their throat. When had…? They didn’t understand what was happening, and that confusion grew tenfold when they spotted Specklepaw and Sagepage slump to the ground and stars shimmer from their pelts. It was only when a glistening ghost of a StarClan cat appeared and grew corporeal that Whisperpaw understood. StarClan had finally returned, at a cost, and they were going to help drive the Dark Forest out.
Their eyes looked nervously at Lionfur standing before them. Their heart hammered in their ears. Whisperpaw had not yet fought against anything in a serious match before; they’d only had some brief training with Batsong and Lavenderdrop. They knew that their energy levels were easily depleted, and they were still weak—but they refused to let their clan be hurt by these Dark Forest cats any longer.
Whisperpaw twisted their body and bolted behind Lionfur before he could react. They leapt at his tail, biting their teeth down onto it with full force and yanking as hard as they could manage. They stumbled away and breathed heavily already, but that would buy them time to get another strike in.
Whisperpaw used Tail Yank, dealing 7 damage and costing 15 SP. Lionfur is stunned for one turn!
Lionfur frowned slightly at the apprentice's unease. He thought they had managed to get past that barrier... apparently not. "Well, I'm sure we can think of something suitable for you," he responded off-handedly, flicking his tail. However, Whisperpaw was not looking at him anymore. No one was. They were all looking up. Irritated, the Dark Forest cat rolled his eyes upward-- and froze. Stars. Why were there stars? They had said that StarClan was gone. They had gotten rid of the fox-hearts. So, why.... why were there stars?!
Well, no matter. They still had sheer numbers on there side. He could probably take on three of those star-faced idiots by himself, even. Even as a single starry shape began to form over the dead body of an apprentice (when had that apprentice died?), Lionfur scoffed. "If you think that a single starry piece of crow-food is going to take this Clan away from me," he snarled, "then you had better be ready to die again." Unsheathing his claws, he readied himself to go and back up his unfortunate compatriot when a sharp yank from behind made him hiss. Unprepared, he toppled momentarily to the ground. What? Looking back, he saw that Whisperpaw had started attacking him. What an idiot! Well, the foolish little apprentice had certainly made a mistake. Gleaming blood-red, his eyes narrowed into slits. "Wrong choice, kit," he growled dangerously, standing up once more.
Whisperpaw’s heartbeat roared in their ears, drowning out everything around them except for Lionfur. Adrenaline tingled to their paw pads and exhaustion already weighed heavily on their body. They were just an apprentice. They wouldn’t be able to take down an entire Dark Forest cat—but they would do their best to help.
At Lionfur’s growling voice, Whisperpaw’s ear twitched and their nose wrinkled. “I’m an apprentice,” Whisperpaw spat before they lashed forward again. Their breaths came out in harsh pants and their legs trembled to hold them upright.
Whisperpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 damage and costing 7 stamina.
