WindClan Apprentice Games

Fawnpaw was up for the challenge presented. Hunting was new to him, as was - well - everything else. Regardless, the young tom relished in the opportunity to stretch his legs and run the territory. Even if the burning gaze of Asylum cats ranked his pelt like claws, the long-legged apprentice was determined to show every cat what he could do. His gaze raked the moors in search of something impressive. Most apprentices would surely go after rabbits or hares but he was going for a much more valuable prize. Any stray squirrel that decided to rush through the open, or a stray frog.

Finally, there was something that shifted through the snow, just at the edge of the horizon. His pads hardly touched the ground as he surged forward in pursuit of his prey. Whatever it was had disappeared into a small break in the hill. Paws skidded and flakes scattered around him. The tom hissed in frustration, "Rabbit dung!" Eagletalon had shown him better than that. He was certain that after this he would make a decent catch to impress them all.

Snowpaw felt the pressure of being watched more than ever. Going out with Shrikestorm meant two or three cats observing her; this was every Asylum cat in their territory. Hopefully, they would care little about a young apprentice missing a catch. Sunlight caught on Snowpaw's white fur as she sank into the snow, shivering. She wanted to try to blend into the environment like the ThunderClan cats were said to. White fur and white snow were hard to distinguish. As unorthodox for her the technique was, it would hopefully allow a more unique catch. Similar to Fawnpaw, she was aiming for something other than a hare or rabbit.

Snowpaw took light breaths as she waited for something to move in her vision. Scenting was harder in the leaf-bare environment, and any prey moving was easily seen on the white background. The she-cat spotted a burrow at the edge of her vision and angled herself towards it. With any luck, a rarer catch would present itself, but a rabbit was hardly unwelcome.

There was luck in that Snowpaw didn't have to stay crouched in the snow for long. A brown rabbit's ears appeared at the edge of the burrow. Snowpaw forced herself to stay completely silent. She was at an angle where the rabbit wouldn't see her, but they relied on their ears more than any other sense. It scurried a few paces furthur and Snowpaw bowled the rabbit over in a less than graceful way. As undignified as the tussling in the snow was, the rabbit came out pinned beneath Snowpaw's paws as she gave it a quick nip to the neck... and then stood there, confused. Do we give the prey to an Asylum cat? If I buried it, someone else could take it if they aren't being watched for a moment.

Ambition overwhelmed the tom. A churning torrent of frustration and determination drove his pads forward. One slip up wouldn't slow him down. Fawnpaw caught sight of Snowpaw's successful catch and his ears flattened. Jealously welled up like and all consuming pit. There was a flicker of support for his sister but it was dashed away with the heat of the moment. Immediately, his gaze was returned to scanning the moors. Thoughts of congratulating her on a fine catch would return later but more important matters were at paw.

There was another another flash at the edge of his perception. Surely it would be a squirrel or frog this time; no doubt he would bring something impressive back. He had to! But there was something far bulkier than any prey he sought out. An Asylum cat. Low growls began to rumbled in his chest as he rounded to face his attacker. It had been said they would be scattered about in an attempt to increase the challenge. Fawnpaw was not about to let himself be tripped up by some cat under a pelt. Narrowed eyes locked on their target and there was nothing but a brief hiss before he lashed out with all the energy that had once been reserved for the hunting challenge at paw.

Nerio, having been assigned to the territories to meddle with the apprentices and their prey catching endeavors, was hiding in the tall grasses of WindClan territory. Lying in wait for some unfortunate apprentice to stumble across her, initiating a quick spar to hinder their progress. And, after what felt like moons of waiting, one of them finally did. Fawnpaw, while attempting to catch... whatever they thought she was, had stumbled across her. Nerio chuckled, trying her best to dodge the attack... and succeeding. Now, she would get the chance to prove that she could match the speed of these "WindClanners." She swiped a paw across the tom's muzzle, and beckoned him forward to attack her yet again.

Nerio used Dodge-and-Fight, dealing -3 Health Points and using -15 Stamina Points.

"Why you fox-brained-" Long legs faltered and stumbled slightly. The young tom cursed and a snarl broke from the sides of his maw. There was a light stinging as her claws raked his whiskers and drew forth the barest hints of crimson. Fawnpaw fixed her with an enraged stare but he didn't slow in his wavering step, instead, the tom tamed his paws. In a flash, he rounded the she-cat. Darting forward, the tom snapped his teeth around her tail and yanked backwards. Her fur left a soured tasted on his tongue but Fawnpaw was determined to genuinely stun her. Then, he could swoop in with another attack.

Fawnpaw used tail yank, dealing 2 damage and using 10 stamina. Nerio is stunned for 1 turn.

Nerio laughed as Fawnpaw stumbled ever so slightly, enough for him to catch her off guard and yank her tail... rather hard, actually. She shook her head, trying to ignore the pain it sent shooting up her spine. She could do this! ... Right?

"I've got you now." The tom crowed triumphantly with a satisfied snap of his teeth through the air. He took the opportunity to strike his intended target, her soft underbelly. Claws flashed and now she too bore the mark of an enemy. Fawnpaw sported a confidant grin as he pulled away. She had rushed in with such assurance and dashed his already unsuccessful hunt. One thing seemed to be in his favor at least, "You'll need to fight harder than that!"

"I'm supposed to let you win anyway, hare-muncher!" She mewed, resisting the urge not to hiss and spit in this tom's face. In one last attempt to make the tom see reason, she clawed his face, droplets of blood clinging to her sharp, unsheathed claws. This was only meant to be a spar... She knew Theron wouldn't mind if she roughed the WindClanners up a bit, but Eris probably would. "If you wanna fight like that, I'm out. I'd rather not get chewed out by Theron and Eris for hurting one of their precious Clan members." She growled, turning and running back into the tall grass where Fawnpaw couldn't see her.

Whatever smug look had etched itself into his features quickly disappeared underneath the unrelenting force of his opponent's claws. Fawnpaw's shocked expression twisted back into a fury. Her words set his fur on end. If it weren't for the dismissive way in which she spoke and the way she whirled around in retreat, he would have lashed out once again. Instead, the long-legged tom clenched his teeth and whipped off in his own direction. This was his last shot to catch something impressive. Same as before, he wasn't about to settled for any rabbit or hare that crossed his path. Something from the marshes, or stray from Thunderclan territory. So far, he had been unlucky but it was either determination or ignorance that convinced him still still buzzed in his paws.

As if on cue, Shadowclan prey appeared. A skittering lizard. The creature looked so tiny against the frost but nonetheless, Fawnpaw would be bringing back something unique. There was a flash of paws as he darted forward and caught the creature beneath his claws. Lunging forward, he bit the thing on its scaly neck. What a strange flavor. A soured expression twisted his maw in an instant. Lapping at the frost, the tom cleansed his tongue briefly. However he would still have to carry it back. Decidedly, the tom clutched it between his claws and carried on with three legs; it was an odd looking endeavor but it spared him the taste. Now he simply sought to look after Snowpaw.

He hoped she was doing well but not lizard-catching well!
