Snowpaw could see, from the corner of her eye, the brown and white pelt of her brother clashing with someone she didn’t recognize - an Asylum cat. Her eyes closed briefly as she wondered if Fawnpaw’s brashness would stop getting him into trouble. She couldn’t stop watching the quick scuffle, despite how much she was worried for him. The Asylum cat retreated after a few swipes. Snowpaw turned away, gazing at the snow-covered tallgrass of the moors. She hoped Fawnpaw was doing well even after that. The hare was still warm in her maw, reminding her of the challenge at paw. She scraped a hole in the snow and left the pelt there. Hopefully, she could catch something quick and close enough that no one would think to steal it.

Snowpaw’s pricked ears caught wind of the trill of a bird. She forced her muscles not to move as she crouched in the snow, waiting for the bird to come closer. If the trill was blowing towards her, the wind was, too. She would have to detect the bird by sight and hope it didn’t smell her. Birds didn’t look like they had noses. She realized she didn’t know if they could scent or not. Hoping for the best, the apprentice’s eyes scanned the sky above the snow. When the bird came, it was easy to spot, an amber robin unaware of the danger it faced. Snowpaw’s fur dragged in the snow as she took a cautious step closer, and then stopped. If she wasn’t careful, the robin would fly away, and the bird and rabbit would do well for her in this competition.

The robin stopped singing and flew towards a gap in the tallgrass. It didn’t land completely, but it was low enough that Snowpaw could leap to get it— she hoped. One paw was drawn forward, and then the next, and when the robin was close enough she sprang towards it. It was blissfully ignorant until Snowpaw’s claws brought it down and pinned it into the snow-covered ground. Her heart pulsed against her chest, and her pulse throbbed in her ears. I’m doing well. Two attempts, two catches.

Rainpaw approached the two apprentices, a small smirk on his face. Lilacsong taught him how to hunt already, and he was sure that would be to his advantage. His fluffy grey coat billowed around him like a cloud of smoke. It was time to catch some prey!

"Let's see what's running today..."

He perked his head up, mouth open, standing like a statue. Rainpaw caught the whiff of something new, and quietly slinked in the dried grasses, waiting for his next move.

Sure as day, a fat toad leaped out. Rainpaw recoiled at the ShadowClan stench coming from the toad. "Gross," he muttered with a grimace, cringing at the thought of putting that slimy thing in his mouth. But he had to do it! For WindClan! For Lilacsong!

The tom watched the toad leap, and he bounded after it. With a particularly long leap, he snatched the small thing with his claws, giving a quick bite to the unfortunate toad. It was all he could muster to grab it and carry it with him, readying himself for another round of hunting.

The robin's delicate feathers caught in her mouth as she set it down, returning to the rabbit. It was getting cold on the snowy ground. Snowpaw could see Fawnpaw in the distance, running after who knew what. She was glad he was no longer antagonizing the Asylum cat he had been earlier. She worried he had been punished for it, but he seemed fine. The long-furred apprentice gazed through the snow in an opposite direction, towards the direction of Fourtrees. A squirrel combined with the rabbit and bird would place her high in this. They were most likely to be near ThunderClan or SkyClan, she reasoned, so she set off to find one.

Snowpaw paused, realizing she'd left her other catches in the snow. Her tail twitched as she continued to head towards the border. Surely the Asylum cats would be watching and know those were her catches. And maybe, she conceded, I'm being a little paranoid about this. She was confident no Clan cat would steal, but they were competing with the Asylum cats their age as well. Her worries were at the front of her mind until she spotted her target, a squirrel! Not pausing to think about technique, Snowpaw's excitement ran her straight at the squirrel. With long, leaping strides, the she-cat bounded towards the squirrel. It noticed her, and started to run, but it seemed to have a peculiar limp that slowed it down. The white molly caught it and killed it quickly, but her brow furrowed as she tried to inspect the now-dead squirrel for anything out of the ordinary. It looked fine, smelled fine (the scent made her mouth water, in fact).

It would be okay, she decided, and allowed happiness to take over her paws as she sprang back to her Clanmates. She had caught a squirrel! The bird and rabbit were good as well. Her prey was right where it had been, and she dropped the squirrel on the pile. Maybe it was time to find Fawnp-- the thought had barely crossed her mind when she saw her brother skidding towards her. "Fawnpaw! How have you done?"
