Someone needs character development~

So, all my kitties have something tragic going on in their lives -- well, almost all of them. Heatherpetal is about to kill Buttercup by accident and will have to live with the guilt of doing so for the rest of her life; Sweetheart and Scorchfang are in different Clans but are falling in love and will have a kit -- who will have no idea he's half-Clan -- and Buttercup has some sort of psychological issue that resulted in her murdering her mate and Heatherpetal's littermates.

But Fernfeather... She's just a super hyper and happy-go-lucky cat who can't seem to be brought down by life's woes. Should I keep her this way, or should there be something going on in her life as well that she struggles with? If so, gimme suggestions please!

I haven't got a clue. I think all my characters have something bad going on in their lives. Robinpaw already hates RiverClan, but after the Sunningrocks battle, and Hazelpaw's murder by a RiverClan cat, she will probably exact her revenge on the entire of RiverClan. Dappledkit has Gigantism, so he has massive paws and occasional heart failure, which he hates, and Stormpaw has to live with the guilt of Fawnpaw dying to save him. As for Smokepaw, she will almost die because she fancies Ashpaw.

I don't really know what to do with Brightpaw. I know that he acts all ambitious and brave when he's actually a nervous, scared wreck. He has random sad thoughts and stuff, and I was planning on him going evil and training with the df, but idk. Probably not happening. Maybe Fernfeather could catch an illness (and live, obviously), but that's just an idea. I can't help you much with this. Sorryy :3

Hmmm...of couse, there's nothing wrong with having a character that isn't emotionally broken ;)  If she's beginning to get boring though, here's a few things you could try:

• Cripple her.  Have her suffer an injury or sickness that effects her health permanently, and she is forced to learn to live with it
  
  
• Come up with an interesting, fun plot for her.  It could be anything, she could go rid the town of evil rogues and before Fernfeather the Conqueror, or force her to become a rogue herself.  Set out on a journey with some other clan cats, make her become a wild hermit living in the cave under the Gorge.  HECK, have her go tame unicorns in Candyland and use them to take over the clans!  Go wild! (just not too wild...take account of the rules and make sure anything is run by staff first)
  
  
• She could get captured and forced to become a kittypet, and either try to find her way back to the clan, or decide to stay where she is.
  
  
• Or, let her live a happy life.  Settle her down with some kitters, or have her become the ultimate WC warrior, that all quake in fear of her very name.

If you'd like to play off of her happiness, maybe left it go too far? I know one of my characters is this way. Fern can fail to understand why others get sad or angry or just outright deny that things are bad.

Mange acts this way but he's aware of what he's doing.

I'd give her some flaws or gave her make a mistake she needs to fix.

She could just be your happy one who does something really awesome. Maybe she discovers some sort of threat against her Clan, be the one to inform her leader about it, helps in finding a solution that saves everyone, and her bravery and cunning is praised and lauded til the end of time.

Hmm...or...WindClan's border bumps up against the Thunderpath, right? Maybe she finds a young kit on the edge who got hit by a monster and she brings the little fella to the camp, nursing it back to health and becoming its adoptive mother? Maybe the kit's life can be touch and go for awhile to add drama. ((I've been sitting on an idea for a WindClan cat for awhile and wasn't sure when I wanted to create it or how to introduce it. Heck, the only thing I've settled on is its name and appearance. You can PM me if you're up for it and we can hash out the details before asking Ash for approval.))

Hmm... I'm really liking Rainy's and Willow's ideas. The ones where Fern gets crippled and finds and adopts a young kit. Maybe I can try for that, if Ash is find with the idea.
