A Very Unexpected Birth

Dewpaw whispered to Creampaw, " I wouldn't bother Sparrowleaf right now she nearly bit my head off a minute ago!" She mewed as her sky blue eyes growing large in worry.

Dewpaw left the nursery and curled up outside the entrance in case Sparrowleaf needed anything last minute, plus she felt as Mistfeather's apprentice she needed to be around for her.

Dewpaw purred as her eyes felt heavy with sleep, she drifted off after a last, comforting thought. It's good to have friends.

OOC I think I'm going to wait for Icee to post but it's awesome to have a new friend!

Poor Mistfeather didn't know how much longer she would have to go through the pain. With one down and six more to go, the deputy was in for the ride of her. Happily chomping down on the stick place in front of her, the she-cat began pushing once again.

The second kit came out smoother than her sister. It was another silver tabby she-cat, this time without the white accents. (Soarkit) As much as she would like to take care of this one too, the third was ready to join her sisters.

Next was a beautiful blue tabby she-kit. Tabbies seemed to be a theme. (Bluekit)

Fourth from the queen was a pure white she-cat. She definitely stood out amongst the growing litter. (Pansykit)

At this point the tabby was breathless, but the kits kept coming. The fifth was, surprise, another she-cat, this time a grey tabby. (Wisteriakit)

"I'm never having kits again," the she-cat hissed as out popped another blue she-cat. (Mistykit)

Last, but definitely not least, was the only tom and the seventh kit of Mistfeather's first litter. He was a tiny grey tabby, the runt of the litter. (Aspenkit) How in the world had she managed seven kits was all that she could think about as she stared blankly at the mass of wet fur.

And I thought four was a lot.

Dewpaw snapped awake as she heard the loud cries of newborn kits, That's awfully loud how many are their?

The blue kitten let a loud mewl as she started to crawl to where she could smell the scent of milk. Surrounded by her squirming sibling the she kit found a teat and started to suckle quieted down as she did so.

After what seemed like an eternity, the yowling stopped. Ashcloud raised his head and slowly entered the now extremely full den. So many kits. Never in his life had he seen so many in a single litter. Sensing the ordeal was over, he crept silently towards the exhausted she-cat and the seven kittens curled at her belly. The small tom dipped his head and gently licked the newborns.

"You deserve to sleep for a moon," a soft purr came from Ashcloud as he licked Mistfeather's ears.

Dewpaw's mouth gaped, Seven kits? That's unbelievable! She looked up at the night sky and watched silver pelt Thank you Starclan for this great gift!

The soon-to-be Wisteriakit was a tiny, sleek, goo ridden kitten, but a beautiful one nonetheless. She wiggled closer to the warm, milk scented stomach of her mother. Her eyes closed and her tongue pink, she let out a little squak and a squeek as she began to suckle the supplement milk of her mother for the first time.

Soarkit squeaked and started to crawl towards Mistfeather's belly, she scented milk and was just following her insticts. Soarkit began to suckle when she got to the belly of her mother.

Just as Mistfeather was bending down to lick her many kits clean, she was shot with one more round of pain. This being her eighth kit, it was quick and not nearly as intense as the first. Out came a little white and grey she-cat. The queen sighed, finally rid of those little buggers.

"I'm so sorry Ashcloud," she huffed, now finally able to take care of the kittens while they suckled. This batch of fluff was definitely going to be a pawful. Unfortunately, they would need to take turns coaxing milk out of their exhausted mother.

Gently licking their fur backwards, the tabby paused and straightened her neck. They needed names! Looking at the first, she couldn't help but be reminded of the dear elder who recently passed, Cinderfur.

"The first can be Cinderkit," she meowed proudly and licked the newly named kit's ear. "How about Soarkit for the second?"

"Next will be Bluekit and Pansykit," she purred, gesturing to the blue and white she-cats. "And.. Wisteriakit."

She stared down at the remaining three. A blue-gray she-cat, a white she-cat with grey accents and a mark similar to a snowflake on her back, and the small grey tabby tom. The only tom in fact. "Finally, Mistykit and Winterkit for the girls, and.. Aspenkit for the tom," That was it. They were all free to roleplay their hearts out.

Little Aspenkit mewed at his mother as she purred something strange towards him. That didn't matter, but keeping warm and tasting her delicious milk did. Sadly, she seemed to be preoccupied with six other kits already, so the small tom blindly crawled around, accidentally kicking some of his sisters in the face as he clammered for milk.
