Unexpected.

Amberclaw paced around nervously awaiting her arrival, 'Why did I do this', 'Was this the right thing to do?', 'I love her'. These thoughts flew around his head, muddling up brain with every step he took. Amberclaw was filled with guilt, love had never been easy for him and the anxiety of not loving enough of loving too much killed him from the inside. As he stumbled over from his cluttered brain he heard rustling in the bush where his new love emerged.

The heaby bellied mother trotted out from the bushes deep in ShadowClan territory. The two had quietly decided to give birth away from camp, without the medicine cat. What could go wrong? Mothwing's orange eyes blinked at Amberclaw in sastisfaction as she settled down. "I am so ready to deflate." the she cat laughed, rolling to her side.

Amberclaw returned a smile and licked her ear affectionately. "Thought of any names, dear?" He said unsteadily, trying to take both of their minds off the scenario. Amberclaw swallowed hard, trying to forget what happened to his past lover. "Are you sure we don't want to grab the medicine cat?" He quickly added with a flick of his tail.

With a yowl the she-cat squirmed to the ground, trying to avoid crushing her baby. "They're coming!" she wailed, her eyes watering in pain. "Get me a stick, get me a stick!" Once a stick was placed in her mouth, she waited for a wave to push. Wave after wave crashed over her and she pushed every time.

In another, final wail the ShadowClan mother pushed harder than she has yet, snapping the stick in half. A calico kit, so unlike her mother and father, slid out onto the grass in a horrible amount of blood. Weakly, desperately, driven by her mother instincts, Mothwing stretched enough to gather the kit closer to her. As she bled out, unaware, she nipped the sack and started licking her kit roughly, feeling weaker and weaker by the second. Her eyes looked up. A maple tree. "Maple...kit..." she whispered as she layed back, her green eyes looking up to Amberclaw. Her tiny kit wailed. A new life, a gift, for an old one, a curse.

Ambeclaw gazed in awe at the sight, the beautiful kit lay before him, "Maplekit.. how... amazing." He said quietly. Amberclaw snapped out of his trance and jumped at the sight Mothwing was in. "Ah! Mo-Mothwing! Can you still hear me? Mothwing!" He screeched desperately licking her forehead, although she was getting colder by the second he still had hope. "Mothwing I can't lose you, I can't go through this again!"

There was a an eerie silence in the ShadowClan forest for a couple seconds. A small mewl wailed, breaking the trance of the silence. Mothwing was dead, but the kit lived on.
