The Day of the Ball
The day of the ball Princess Celestia wakes especially early to make sure all the preparations were running smoothly from the decorations to the food to the music. All the guests had arrived a few days prior since Celestia had wanted to them to feel comfortable by the time the ball happened. Though it only appeared to be a party the Princess knew that it was much more. This party would chose her people's fate and could either cause her country and citizens to fail and suffer or make Equestria a successful and prosperous country that she could slowly change and cultivate into a citizen-governed country... She paused. "What is that word...." After a few moments she lights up. "Democracy!" Happy she had been able to remember she heads towards her rooms to start dressing for the ball as the sun hits the middle of the sky, signifying noon.

I'm sorry, school sucks. Too much work, too little internet.

The Lord of Lesdruga had shaken his head and scanned the international headlines yet again. It had only been a few years, and a nation had already fallen. Refugees, former citizens of The Union, had fled in any way they could. Apartment complexes were being, or had been, built to house those who had no connections available to stay with.

That had been a few months ago. Magnus was now attending the ball at Celestia, checking his reflection in a body mirror. He had had tailored a custom suit just for this occasion. After going home, it would be kept where it would wait until the next occasion arised. No need to use it only once.
The jacket was a dark gray, tinted slightly blue. It looks crisp and neat on the outside, but was actually rather soft inside. A faintly teal tie was tucked between the white dress shirt and the jacket. If one were to look at his feet, shiny, black pointed-toed shoes would be there. He was actually looking at them right now, brushing off a few hairs.
A guard stationed at his door knocked and peeked his head inside. After delivering a message that the ball would begin soon, the older man went back to his post.
Well that was unnecessarily long.

Hmm, I've put a bit of thought into this before, and I've decided that technology-levels are really up to you. In my mind, it differs from country to country, with most nations having 1940s-1980s era tech, but again, the decision is yours. It can be medieval, futuristic, modern, atomic age, or whatever.
