Mass ShadowClan Assesment

Tonight was the night. The night all apprentices thought about, were anxious for, and looked forward to. It was the night of the assessment; the gateway to becoming a warrior. They had to prove that they were ready for the task to become a warrior of ShadowClan. To prove this, the apprentices had to catch enough prey, and prove themselves good hunters. With the season being cold, most prey would be hidden in an attempt to keep warmth. So this round of assessments was going to be very difficult.

Turning to the group already gathered, {I don't want to wait, it's the same thing all the time, anyways.} Nightstar stated the rules quickly and clearly. "Okay, here is what you need to do to pass. You need to catch at least three pieces of fresh-kill, then come back to this spot-" She gestured to the entrance to camp. "But remember, I'll be watching."

Nightstar gave the apprentices a proud look.

"Go!"

Ooc: We scrapped the hunting system, so go ahead and just post your cat catching three pieces of prey, then returning to Nightstar.

Maplepaw bounded away, making sure to keep as much space as she could from the other apprentices. She slowed her pace and quieted her steps before sniffing around. Prey was around, but probably in their holes. She could probably uncover a nest if she looked, but she decided to leave the smart prey alone and focus on the dumb ones that ventured out of their dens. She sniffed around before finding a frog, which had come out in search of any fly's that came out, and she noticed a snake eyeing the frog also. Wow, this was luck. She crouched and leaped right onto the frog, killing it quickly before leaping after the snake, who had begun to slither away. She put her paws on its head, sealing its jaws before breaking its neck. She buried both prey before standing there and looking around. There had to be something else, waiting to come out. Her green gaze shifted across the trees before spotting a sparrow, its flapping catching her attention. It land on a low branch, before fluttering to the ground. It poked its beak on the ground before looking back up, as if it was going to fly off. Maplepaw bunched her muscles and leaped for her prey, quickly killing the bird. That was fast. She started to carry her prey back, reaching the spot where Nightstar was. She placed her kill down before waiting for anyone else. She was the first one done.

Lionpaw nodded and ran off. He leaped up onto a tree just in time to see a squirrel. He got low and got ready to pounce, and caught the squirrel in his jaws. Giving it the killing bite, he brought it down and buried it and bounded off again. He caught a frog, and a vole and brought them both back to his pile, then brought it to Nightstar

Shadepaw watched silently from the shadows as he watched a sparrow nibble at the ground. He stalked silently towards it, his paws moving quickly and quietly towards it. He reached out and snagged it with one claw and killed it, then went off for more prey. He spotted a mouse that was scavenging for food. Again, he pounced and nearly missed, but managed to corner it then gave it the killing bite. He then caught a frog that was jumping along the marshes, and carried it back to Nightstar.

Redpaw rushed off immediately, grinning. I'll be the first one! He thought, tasting the air and slowing his pace. He smelled rat. He twisted through the occasional mound of shrubs and branches, following the scent. Suddenly he realized he only caught the scent because it was on the wind; the nest was all the way near the border. How did he realize that? Because it took him forever to get to it. But he was not displeased, having found a small nest of three baby rats squirming in it. The mother was gone, and prey size didn't matter at the moment. He plucked them all up and rushed back to camp. However, he was disappointed to find that he had taken so long as to having been the third one to come back. "Fox-dung! You got here before me?!" He grumbled, sitting down and putting down his rats. They looked almost just big enough to leave their nest.

Spotting a lizard, Silverpaw crept towards it, then suddenly leaped and killed it. She got another lizard and a frog, and carried them back. She was the fifth one done which was not bad considering the fact that there were a lot of apprentices in ShadowClan.

After several failed attempts, Cormorantpaw had managed two good sized snakes and a what kind of looked like a bird but was so mangled now that it was hard to tell anymore. She hadn't caught it like that of course. It was her lack of hunting skills that had turned that good-looking pile of feathers into the now tangled-sick-looking pile of feathers. How this managed to happen was beyond her.

There was a twinge of jealously when she saw the others with their wonderful prey.

Swiftpaw clambered over rocks sniffing for pre. She was going to be the one with the most. She was the best! She swiftly moved through the trees and into lushious area.
