Sunbear
You keep begging for forgiveness . . .
Free. Sunbear was finally free. It felt like her wounds had scarred over ages ago, but Hemlockfox had kept her for what seemed like seasons. She would've been fine a quarter moon after the attack. But oh, this taste of freedom was so sweet. The golden flecked molly raised her head to the sky and breathed in the fresh air with a grin on her face. It didn't even bother her that freedom meant getting back to duties. She'd never followed the rules too closely - what was she, a dog? So while a hunting patrol technically meant work, she wasn't too hung up on that idea.
Sunbear limped along behind the other cats in the patrol. She didn't know any of them too well, or at least not well enough that she wanted to talk to them... just Laurelriver. The rest of them were boring. But the calico was intriguing. She hung around Leopardwind a lot, which Sunbear didn't particularly enjoy - but she didn't seem anything like the stiff, stuck up tom.
"Hey, sunshine." Sunbear meowed, pale green eyes glinting with interest as she jogged to Laurelriver's side. She fell into stride alongside her Clanmate with ease, surprised at just how easy it was. She'd always liked the she-cat, but she didn't realize how pretty she was until today. It'd be a shame if that Leopardwind had already gotten to her. "Care to catch me up on things? I've been cooped up since I helped save everyone from those wolves. Anything... interesting?" She nudged Laurelriver playfully and a wry grin tugged at the corner of her lips.
It was so monotonous, doing the same thing over and over again, and today it caught up to her. Laurelriver had tried to make it fun, but her clanmates were either too quiet to ever respond or too injured to really play a game based around sprinting. And while the euphoria of hunting and catching prey was still there, it was hardly enough to keep her going.
Sunbear's talkativeness gave Laurelriver some of her energy back. She wondered if it would be good to lag behind, but she did already catch a rabbit today, and hunting patrols were meant to be spent with her clanmates, anyways. ”Oh, you want interesting?” she poked back, grinning like a fool. ”Well, I hear that love is in the air. Rumor has it that Larchbreeze has his eyes on a special she-cat.” This wasn't even close to true. Laurelriver was making this up. But Larchbreeze was a flirt, so it probably wouldn't bother him that much if rumor spread that he was in love with one special cat - it might make she-cats even more receptive to him. Plus, she couldn't take the boring route and say 'oh, I heard nothing interesting'. She always heard nothing! It was so annoying! Where was all the gossip? The calico she-cat lashed her tail-
Accidentally hitting Sunbear with it.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" she said. "I did not mean to do that. I-" She really didn't want to explain the lie she had expertly come up with in her head, so she needed to make another explanation. "I was just mad... thinking about Larchbreeze." Good enough. "I'd rather not talk about it. Anyhoo, Thistledown and I had a blast scaring cats in the Tunnels. Molehill did an awesome job organizing that, by the way. It was so much fun! I wish we could have scared you, too." The calico she-cat gave Sunbear a cheeky grin, before touching noses with her.

Sunbear's eyebrow raised as Laurelriver grinned back at her. Larchbreeze, huh? She didn't think she'd ever actually spoken to the tom, but he was certainly always prancing around camp. And apparently Nectarflower thought of him like a son or something - she didn't really care. Moondrop didn't like him, so she didn't like him. "Never thought he could set his sights on just one cat." She remarked with a snort. His reputation preceded him, and she was only glad he'd never tried to flirt with her. Falconpaw padding after her whenever he was bored was enough of an annoyance. "I think he'd be mates with half the Clan if anyone would give him the time of day."
Suddenly, though, a tail was whipping at her rump, and she startled. Woah!"You've got a thing for him or something?" The tortoiseshell turned her gaze to look at Laurelriver - really look at her, glancing her up and down and lingering for a second longer than necessary. Laurelriver and Larchbreeze would be a waste. She was much too pretty for him. Speaking of which - when had she gotten so pretty? It was a bit... distracting. Sunbear looked away quickly. Maybe she hadn't noticed the way she'd been staring. "He's not worth it, I hope you know. If you want, I'll beat him up for you." Her tone was gruff, so Laurelriver probably couldn't be sure if she was joking or not. Sunbear herself wasn't even sure if she was joking.
And then the calico was grinning at her, tugging at her heartstrings. Sunbear cleared her throat and tried to focus on her words. Molehill... scaring cats? Oh, right! She'd missed the festivities last moon, probably fever-dreaming in the confines of Hemlockfox's den. "Wish I could've been there." No, she didn't, not really. "Though I don't know if you could've scared me. You're more cute than intimidating." Sunbear said cheekily, then paused as Laurelriver pressed her nose against hers. She stiffened slightly, then forced herself to relax. She wasn't really used to affectionate gestures like that, outside of maybe when she was with Moondrop. She cleared her throat and forced herself to look away again. "Hey, um, what about you? Any special cats in your life?"Do not say Larchbreeze.
"Well, who knows," she said, shrugging. "Someone could have made it up to get attention or something." That someone was her, and it probably explained why she had the inclination to tell Sunbear that.
Sunbear's next question caught Laurelriver off guard. "What? No!" she yelped. She did flirt with him, once, but she didn't really have that strong of a connection with him overall. Did it matter if he made her heart flutter if they barely interacted? She had no idea what kind of cat he was under it all, either, and she found it... awkward to pursue that. "There's no need," she said, calming down her nerves. "I'm well aware of the kind of cat he is." It was interesting that Sunbear offered to beat him up for her, though - they weren't that close, were they? Perhaps she hated Larchbreeze with a burning passion - or perhaps she had a crush on Laurelriver herself.
After discussing Molehill and her scaring cats, Sunbear gave her a teasing compliment. It was nice, hearing them flirt with each other. She didn't know why, but it gave her life in a way she didn't understand fully. "I can be intimidating!" she said, jumping back into her horror tunnel pose. Teeth bared, her maw in an ugly snarl, narrowed eyes, unsheathed claws. After giving her a taste, she relaxed into her normal pose. "Now imagine that but in the dark, with blood dripping down my jaw. I think I'd be able to scare even you!"
Sunbear's next question put Laurelriver in deep thought. "Honestly, I dunno," she said. "I know... hmm..." Thistledown and Leopardwind both came into mind. Brothers, loyal to each other. Laurelriver felt guilty choosing one over the other - especially since she loved both of them. "I guess I'm keeping my options open," she said, grinning at Sunbear. Did she like Sunbear? Well... she didn't know her well enough to really develop feelings. She was attractive, but a lot of cats were attractive. That didn't really make someone 'special'.
Another thing Laurelriver wanted to talk about popped into her mind. She worried about telling a cat she didn't know well about it, but Sunbear was Moondrop's sister, so maybe they'd. "Also... I'm worried about Moondrop. We haven't talked since the wolves, and it's really bugging me. Do you think I should approach her, or just leave her be?"

Sunbear let out a snort of amusement. "I can't imagine who would've stolen dear Larchbreeze's heart, so maybe. But gossip doesn't have to be true for it to be fun." If she sensed that Laurelriver wasn't telling the truth, she didn't say it out loud. But she wasn't exactly going to be critical of any other cat's honesty. Especially not Laurelriver. She could probably tell Sunbear that the sky was red, and she wouldn't think to argue with the pretty she-cat.
Pfft. Her yelping protest was cute, but it did make Sunbear's heart sink. What if she was only protesting like that because she did like him? And when did Sunbear get so insecure about things like that? Who cared who Laurelriver liked? Apparently, she did. I'll add myself to the growing list of admirers, she thought, her paws pricking with irritation. More with herself than the she-cat beside her. She let out a low hum instead, almost disappointed that there was no need to corner Larchbreeze. "Oh, well. If you ever need anyone to defend your honor, you know where I am." She joked, her tone light - though the offer was very real.
Sunbear froze as Laurelriver jumped into her scary pose, almost like she'd had it at the ready. After a beat, the tortoiseshell burst into laughter. "Okay, okay, that was pretty scary, I'll admit it." She shook out her fur as though Laurelriver had given her a proper fright, and she needed to smooth her fur down. "You're still adorable, though." Sunbear added, tapping the she-cat shoulder with her tail playfully.
The tortoiseshell froze, though, as Laurelriver pondered her question. She hadn't really been expecting her to say her, since they'd barely had the chance to get to know each other - but it did sting a bit when Laurelriver gave the most non-committal answer possible. Sunbear shrugged. "Fair. We're still young, after all." But it didn't answer her real question - whether or not Laurelriver liked she-cats. Hmph."I will say, though... I would stay away from Leopardwind. I hear he's kind of a player. Acts like the most loyal tom, then turns around and sidles up to the next she-cat that looks his way." Disgust curled her lip as she spoke. It was a complete lie - she didn't know anything about Leopardwind other than the way he padded after Cloudjumper, like some lovesick puppy - but she didn't think she could stand herself if a pretty cat like Laurelriver ended up with a tom like that. Maybe she'd get lucky, and the molly wasn't entertaining him at all.
Her next question gave Sunbear pause. Moondrop. She hadn't spoken to Moondrop, either? She'd thought her sister was just avoiding her, but maybe something was going on. "I haven't spoken to her either... she never visited me when I was in the medicine den. I don't know what's up with her." She murmured, her gaze briefly dropping to her paws. "I would approach her, I think. Moondrop is just kinda... easily distracted. Sometimes I think she forgets I even exist. She might not even realize you haven't spoken in so long...and she'd probably be happy you sought her out, too. I don't know if she's aware that other cats actually care about her." Her eyes were warm with amusement as she spoke. She let out a soft laugh. Deep down, she was really worried about her sister - but it was probably fine. She'd seek her out soon enough to catch up. Then, a thought occurred to her. She doesn't like my sister, does she? Nah, she wasn't sure Moondrop liked anyone like that. Or had the energy to.
