Hemlockfox blinked the sleep from his eyes, his fur noticeably ruffled from the restless slumber that had found him the night before. He craned his neck to look at his coat, one ear slanted back in annoyance, and sat up with a low huff. He'd been meaning to officially appoint Weevilpaw as his apprentice for some time, but Tigerstar's disappearance had further delayed such plans. He was certain Weevilpaw knew his intention by now, but he needed to actually talk to the apprentice to clear the air.

He'd very clearly been including her in his obligations, something Rapidfire - Rapidstar, now - had even picked up on. She knew he was feeling Weevilpaw out, seeing if she'd be the right for for him as his apprentice, but he was surprised she'd not pushed for it to be made official. If anything happened to him, he was certain Rapidstar would want someone to be able to take care of WindClan in his stead. Naturally, he didn't intend for anything to happen to him, but then again, who did?

Skin prickling, Hemlockfox curled around to lap at a few wayward clumps of fur, his brows furrowed in thought. He was...surprisingly hesitant about this. A part of him was worried that he'd be sent back to SkyClan once he was no longer needed here. A cruel chuckle built up in the tom's throat at the thought. Just a few moons ago, he would've jumped at the opprotunity to return to SkyClan. Stars, he really had grown soft for the clan of skinny moor-runners. What would Wolfstar say, if she knew?

As he smoothed down the last bits of spiky fur and straightened, his lip curled slightly in disdain at his traitorous feelings. He was the son of- a jolt went through him. Sunfire wasn't really his father. Not by blood, anyway. That noble heritage of leaders and heroes he'd once held so dear was...not even his to claim. Hemlockfox got up with a furious lash of his tail. He'd not realized that before...a small part of him wished he hadn't at all. Grumbling under his breath, Hemlockfox finally dragged himself out of his sheltered corner of the camp, his eyes squinted against the bright sun overhead.

Warmth spread through his pelt at the golden touch of light and he shuddered. Leafbare would be upon them soon. Then, even the sun wouldn't be able to warm them on clear days such as this. So, now was as good a time as any, he supposed, to ask Weevilpaw and make this apprentice nonsense official. Before the cold and following illnesses set in, that is. An inexperienced apprentice, hardly able to list what herbs were good for a cough, would do the clan zero favors.

He found her on the other end of the camp, thankfully not on a patrol of any sort, and approached with a cool expression. One that hopefully masked the emotions still roiling beneath his smooth surface. She was probably waiting for this moment, he realized with a flash of guilt. This long delay felt all too similar to his own journey to becoming a medicine cat apprentice. Though, his own had been far more tumultuous.

Swallowing thickly, Hemlockfox leveled a mildly disinterested look on Weevilpaw and beckoned for her to get up. "If you're not busy-" He began slowly, "I need to talk to you about something." He stared at her for a moment, searching her expression. He'd never imagined to gain his first apprentice like this. She might even feel the same way about this. "I'm sure you already know, but I'd like to do this properly."
