Cindersky
I loved you...
This was so embarrassing. She had made a number of mossballs, maybe three or four of them, for the kits in the nursery. She had found a good clutch of it out on patrol and had made it her business to bring it back, shape them up out of sight of the nursery and walk them over. She had gotten called away for a while,-- patrol confusion,-- and when she returned to the little mossballs, they were a little dried up. She did not think much of it, picking them up and starting to head on over. Only a couple pawsteps away from the nursery, did one split open. In her haste to catch it again, she had dropped one, and then the others had fallen apart.
"Ohh.." She grumbled to herself, hastily trying to paw them all back into shape. No matter how hard she tried, they would not go. And she was right in front of the silly den-- She twisted, trying to hide them from sight. Maybe she could... The moss was dissipating into tatters in her paws. Maybe if she tried this? Oh. This was terrible.

Herringkit
✩
Herringkit sat in the sunlit spot of the nursery while methodically grooming his fur. A pair of long brown feathers rested at his paws. He had found them yesterday by the fresh-kill pile, but they were far too clean and nice to have been from any fresh-kill. Since the feathers were so pretty Herringkit didn't want to play rough with them. Instead, he tried fixing one of them into his fur, but they were too big to stay on. No matter. He thought he still looked just as nice without them.
As Herringkit stood to leave the den with fresh, perfectly groomed fur, his attention was immediately enveloped by an adult and the moss she was struggling to hold. "Do you need help?" he mewed with worry. After quickly padding over he looked over the mossy mess. "Oh no..." Herringkit reached out with his small paws and tried molding the bits together, but they only crumbled at his touch. Defeated, he looked up at Cindersky. "I'm sorry you lost your toys." he sympathized. Herringkit remembered how sad he was when one of his favorite toys broke. Maybe he could find her a new toy?

Cindersky
I loved you...
Cindersky's head snapped up the moment she heard a small voice talking to her. She whipped her head around, searching for the voice; until her eyes rested on Herringkit. She smiled as gently as she could, as though to hide the nagging embarrasment and disappointment behind it. These mossballs were for them, not-- Then again, if Herringkit thought they were hers, perhaps the kit would feel happy helping.
"It's okay," She meowed softly, tilting her head toward the now stringy, flimsy mess on the camp floor. "These things happen. I let them go dry too quickly and they fell apart. Maybe..."
She turned her head, swivelling until she found something that could work. "How about you help me get them onto this leaf?" She said, tiptoeing briskly away to get the first one she found, and placing it down by the mess. "Maybe we could wet them again, and make one really big one? We could share it."

Herringkit
✩
Herringkit listened to her attentively, his eyes following the deputy as she fetched a nearby leaf. "Okay!" he purred. The eager kitten began his task by holding the leaf stem down with one fluffy paw, then delicately and methodically pawing the scraps together- extra slowly to ensure he didn't crumble them further. Perhaps unnecessarily, Herringkit collected every single bit no matter how small. While working he thought about how kind it was of Cindersky to share the big moss ball. And how her plan to rehydrate the dried-up moss made lots of sense. "You're really nice and smart," he told her. "That must be why you're the deputy."
