First day as a mentor. She would totally be fine. Why wouldn't she be fine?
Creamlily huffed to herself as she seated herself at the clearing she had told Foxpaw to meet her at. She had insisted they only come at sunhigh and enjoy their morning, out of the good of her heart, of course. She was a good mentor, afterall. She wasn't about to go soft on them, or totally ignore them, though. Not like her own mentor had. The very thought of Auburnrain had Creamlily grumbling to herself. Why did she have to go and spoil her mood like that so early in the day?
Whatever. The cream tabby huffed as she pushed the thought of her former mentor out of her mind and turned back to look at the vast moor. Now where was her very first apprentice? Not late, surely?
It wasn't really their fault, if you thought about it - that's what they told themselves, anyway. Who could blame them if they'd never had any real structure before? They'd never had a proper training session with Snowvixen. They'd never had to be up early, and so, over the moons, their sleep schedule had slowly adjusted until they were routinely waking up around sunhigh. That couldn't be their fault. Nobody had ever been around to teach them these things.
So when Foxpaw finally met Creamlily in the clearing he'd been instructed to meet her at, he was breathless and panting. The run from the apprentices' den to this part of the territory was not a particularly short one, especially not when you jolted awake in your nest at exactly the time you were supposed to be somewhere else, and hadn't had any time to prepare or even gather your thoughts before launching into a full on sprint toward your destination.
This was not how he expected the day to go. But he could work with it, probably. Creamlily wouldn't be too mad - right?
"Creamlily! Hey! Hi! Hello! I hope I'm not too late, I woke up like five minutes ago." The words burst from Foxpaw's lips as they finally plopped themselves down in front of her, every part of their pelt disheveled down to their whiskers. "What are we gonna do today? I've hunted lots, with the other apprentices - well, kinda just Weevilpaw and Falconpaw, and once with Ryepaw, and I can usually manage to catch somethin'. But I'm happy to do anything - hey, is everything okay? You're kinda... huffy." Foxpaw hesitated, for once in their life. They'd spoken too much. They were learning that cats didn't tend to like that. Most were annoyed by it, actually, and they usually thought Foxpaw didn't notice their sighs or 'subtle' eye rolls, but he always did. The little things had started to add up; started to make them second guess themselves. They fell silent and let their gaze fall to the ground for a moment before looking back up at Creamlily. "...Sorry. I'm quiet now."
