Wasppaw had done it. Her crowning achievement of her apprenticeship, right at the tail end of it all. She had to drag it backwards, tugging it through the snarly foilage like a dog, but she had finally arrived at camp with her prize. A hawk. Wounds from talons dripped down her face, shoulder, and flank but she didn't care in the slightest. She bet even Foxpaw couldn't say he did it. Still pumped from the fight of a lifetime, Wasppaw drug it through the camp entrance to the center of camp, finally dropping it. Feathers clung to her maw but she looked around triumphantly for someone to go to.
"Otterkit!" She called happily to her brother. "Come see what I killed!' She waved her tail eagerly in getting before triumphantly putting her paw on top of the hawk.
Otterkit perked at the call of his name. Blue eyes looking around the nursery for a moment before making his way out of his nest and the den. The young tom perked up spotting his sister, and sensing her excitement."What is it?" He asked stepping closer to his siblings before freezing in place completely, fur fluffing up and standing on end. He didn't like whatever it was. It scared him. It was way too big. Way too scary, and underneath the scent of his sister and the blood, it smelled scary too.

And if the world don't break, I'll be shaking it...
The sound of Wasppaw’s voice calling out for their brother made Foxpaw turn around. He was careful not to whip around the way he wanted to, not to let his concern show, but still shifted with a curiosity to look. And when his eyes found his sister--well, for several heartbeats, all Foxpaw could do was stare. She was bloodied, and his heart lurched at the sight of her, but she was--she was dragging an entire hawk with her. Terror for what she’d went through, fear and fury at the thought of her surpassing him; the feelings mingled in his gut until Foxpaw managed to excuse himself and get to his paws.
”You look like a mess,” he said when he was close to Wasppaw. ”Mouse-brain. That thing could’ve flown away with you.” He snorted and looked down at the bird as Otterkit came trotting up to them. Foxpaw always felt a little bad, looking at his brother; he should’ve been an apprentice, with the rest of them. Just as he felt bad, he also felt frustrated. Otterkit had to learn to get over himself eventually, right? He couldn’t play timid forever. And his body would have to cooperate with him and stop making him sick sometime soon. Foxpaw shook his head and looked back at their sister. ”Thorns, Wasp. You’re a menace.”
He was starting to laugh a little as he spoke, but as his eyes traveled back to Otterkit again, the mirth fell from his features and his voice. Foxpaw blinked slowly at the tom. Otterkit was smaller than he was--though he was still too big for the nursery, blast it--but presently, he was swelling up quite nearly to Foxpaw’s size. At--what? Was it that Wasppaw was a scored, bloodied mess? But, no: his eyes were trained on the bird. Foxpaw sidled closer to his brother. ”Hey. What’s the matter?” He asked with a sniff. ”It’s dead, Otter. It’s not gonna peck you.” To emphasize his point, he rounded a cuff against Otterkit’s ears, toppling him forward closer to the dead hawk. The blow wasn’t too rough, but it was none too gentle, either. ”Look at it. You’re fine, yeah?”
As Foxpaw joined them, she met him with a sly grin. Sure, was she a little bloody. But the satisfaction of accomplishing something Foxpaw couldn't was worth it. "Maybe you would have been carried off, but skilled fighters and hunters like me know how to handle themselves." She replied smuggly before turning to observe Otterkit, who seemed really uneasy.
"It's a hawk, but-" She began before Foxpaw interrupted. She shut her trap and wearily observed. He lightly taunted their brother, who had always been the nervous one of them. She and Fox had always been neck and neck with their skills and bravery and soon both of them would be warriors and Otterkit was still an apprentice. It was unusual, and Wasppaw wasn't quite sure why. He was her brother the same. Wasppaw was about to tell her older brother to knock it off when he took his paw and slapped Otterkit forward, stumbling to the hawk.
"Hey!" she yipped out, backing up away from the two of them. "The claws can still cut him."
