Catching Up [Closed]

Quailprowler stalked through the trees next to her fond friend, daughter-almost, and former apprentice, Silverdusk. She would never admit it out loud, but she had so much loss recently that she couldn't quite process. Her tail twitched as they chattted about general stuff in feral, her mind elsewhere. At least guarding Acornstar gave her purpose, but deep down she missed Vinecrawler very much.

Not even her thoughts could hide the scent of badger hitting her nose. Immediately, Quailprowler froze and flexed out her long claws, going still and observant. "A badger..." She whispered quietly in feral upon instinct. A roar from her side and the sound of crushing foliage sprung her into action and without thought, she shoved Silverdusk to the side as the large black and white body was upon them.

The teeth clenched down at her side, tearing into the flesh on the shoulder. Pain, real pain and not emotional, coursed through her before the adrenaline kicked in and the pain dulled into rage. With a cry, the warrior slashed out with her claws and tore away from the teeth with her brute force. Her eyes dimmed to pure focus as she prepared her next attack.

Hunting with Quailprowler was easy, it was like old times, times Silverdusk found themselves longing for in a way. If they were honest though, their past was not much brighter than their present. famine, sickness, death, war… that is what had raised the silver warrior, and yet these recent moons had been far harder than anything that had come before. At least during those trials she had their mate, or Vinecrawler, but now Quailprowler was all that remained, and they were in the same predicament. Their chest felt tight with the thought, and even if her idle chatter with the wild she-cat brought her comfort and solace it did not ease the truth they were both ignoring. Moreover trying to ignore.

The stench of badger suddenly filled the air, and within moments it was upon the pair. Whether Silverdusk would have dodged the badger’s incoming attack unaided, they would not know as Quailprowler moved faster taking the hit before the molly could react. Their eyes widened in horror as the beast’s jaws connected with her shoulder. No! She would not let this creature take what little they had left. She watched the beige warrior break free, and knowing she was no longer in danger Silverdusk threw herself at the badger with a ferocious snarl, green eyes burning with fire. If not for  Quailprowler then this beast would die regardless so that her kits were safe and so that if Wiggleworm was out there, if Vinecrawler was out there, if her niece was out there, that there journey home would be made just a little bit easier.

She slammed into the badger at full force, using her speed to topple it. Teeth and claws flashed in the sunlight as they surged forward to pin it in place. Her hold was steadfast, even on an animal this large, and that was thanks to the cat beside her’s training. Now though, knowing the danger was not long this world her fury transformed directed towards Quailprowler. “Why did you do that?! You could have died!” said Silverdusk concern woven between the undertones of their growl ”You do not need to protect me, you made me ready for situations like this.” As if to prove their point she dug her claws in deeper, forcing the badger down even more, muscles rippling with the effort “I have faced far worse than badgers when i was less skilled, I will be fine, but do not get yourself killed on my behalf.” her voice softened, torn ear twitching ”This forest has taken enough from me, I will not let them take you too. I could not live with myself.”
