The sun had finally fallen behind the trees, but the day had been hot and even with less sun beating down on the camp, Falconmoon could feel the effects of being out in the heat all day. It was days like these he was grateful his fur was bright and reflected the sun's rays rather than attract them. He wouldn't have had the energy for this ceremony right now otherwise.

"Let all of those old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting." He knew the clan was tired and wanted to retreat, but he wanted the next apprentice to be ready by morning. Skyclan needed the growth.

Lilykit - ugh, kit - perked up at the sound of her uncle’s voice.

This had to be it.

What she had waited her entire life for, what she had dreamt about in the medicine cat den; Lilykit stood up from where she had been lazing and hurried towards where the clan would gather, giving a few licks meaningful to her chest. She would not be seen up there as anything but the finest SkyClan had to offer. Her eyes fixed on Falconmoon, alight with excitement and ambition for what she felt in her paws was her time. I wonder if they’re watching, too.

And it indeed, was it. Falconmoon's eyes landed on the kit and he smiled. "Lilykit, step forward. You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to be an apprentice. From today until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Lilypaw. Firetreader will be your mentor. I trust him to teach you the ways of a Skyclan warrior, while also being able to remember his own struggles as an apprentice, as he only recently earned his warrior name. He will teach you well."

Falconmoon was curious to see how this match was going to go, but he had high hopes.

Mistypaw fidgeted as she watched the ceremony. She’d have another denmate! Always exciting. Lilypaw seemed a fair bit older than even some of the older apprentices, though. Odd. “Lilypaw! Lilypaw!” she cheered anyway. “And yay for Firetreader too!”

It had been mere days since Firetreader's own warrior ceremony and, though he hadn't expected life now that he was a warrior to be much more exciting, he hadn't expected...the exact same thing either. It seemed as though nothing had changed but his name and where he rested at night. No cat respected him more than before and he certainly didn't feel like he held more sway in the clan either. It was disappointing but, more than that, it was lonely. It would have been fine if Mintglade were here to keep him company or, at the very least, one or two of his littermates.

He hated leaving his cousins and only friends, if he could call them that, behind. So, when Falconmoon's voice echoed through the camp, Firetreader was happy to slip out of the warrior's den where he, undoubtedly, wouldn't have been able to get much sleep anyway. It was another ceremony, shocker, but the tortoiseshell tom didn't mind sitting through it. Be it for an apprentice or a warrior, SkyClan would grow stronger. Still, what he didn't expect, was for Lilykit to be called forward. He knew she'd recently gotten better, but it still seemed too soon to apprentice her!

Worry squeezed Firetreader's heart like claws and he stared ahead with wide yellow eyes as his little sister padded forward. She wasn't really his little sister, but she'd been ill in Thymelight's den for so long that she'd been held back from her apprentice ceremony for moons. Looking at her, though, she seemed healthier than she had since...ever, really. Maybe he was being paranoid. Maybe he was...wait, what had Falconmoon just said? Why was everyone looking at him?

His gaze snapped towards Mistypaw as she called his sister's name alongside his own and couldn't help the way his ears swiveled back against his head. Him? Of all cats, why make him Lilypaw's mentor? With a quizzical glance up towards his uncle, Firetreader got to his paws and approached Lilypaw almost sheepishly. "Well..." He meowed awkwardly. This was bound to chafe Lilypaw...what should he even say? "If you're anything like dad, I'm sure I won't have to do much." Yup. That was good. "Want me to show you my moves later?"

Lilykit sniffed as she approached her uncle, holding her head high. Her mother nor her father were here to witness her take her steps towards her fate, a knot in her stomach as she recounted the moons of delay. An embarrassment, she told herself, to be behind her littermates. Well, what was left of them. Firetreader had seen battle, had received his warrior name. She had seen the walls of the medicine cat den.

It only meant that she had to ensure she caught up, quickly.

Lilypaw.

She listened intently, though her mind soon wandered at Lilypaw. The golden apprentice could not help the smirk that crept onto her face, shifting her paws. It should be her warrior name, but she would ensure it would not be far away. Lilypaw had heard stories of her father, a fine warrior; she swore as she stared into her uncle’s eyes that she would be the fiercest warrior they had seen. Even if it meant staining her fur.

Though, there was one name that threw her off.

Firetreader? Lilypaw blinked as her brother’s name was called out, almost laughing. Her mentor? He was her age. A number she didn’t like to think about, as she listened to the chanting of her name. Was it an insult? Or was she honoured to have her brother, one of the very few cats she looked up to, train her? As she stood there she couldn’t decide - she would think it over later. Lilypaw searched the crowd, listening to her name chanted back to her. She didn’t know the cat chanting her name - an apprentice, she figured, or that of her brother’s, but a smirk settled on her face. Yeah, she was Lilypaw. Lilypaw met Firetreader’s eyes, her smirk remaining as he searched for the right words. It must feel awkward.

“Yeah, well, remember you aren’t my dad, either,” she laughed, though there was a sharpness in her voice, “uh, yes. I can’t wait to get out of this stuffy camp, it’s all I dreamt about.”
