Subject: Asterkit's Apprentice Ceremony Sat 20 Jul 2024 - 16:47
There was at least some promising cloud cover today. Falconmoon hoped it would stay throughout the course of the day. The heat was sweltering. It was all he could do to not assign patrols only to the creek and live like discount Riverclan cats until the heat wave passed. "Let all of those old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting." He planned to make this quick, hopefully to no offense to the kit being apprenticed. He needed to beat the heat of the day, and he was sure the newly appointed apprentice would appreciate it as well by sunhigh.
Mistypaw was not doing any better in the heat, and was actually feeling rather envious of her short-furred brother. Still, she managed to make her way to what would hopefully be his ceremony. She purred and waved a paw in his direction, trying to keep up a smile.
Asterkit did not seem to be bothered by the heat in the slightest. After all, he had other things to think about! He was sure today was the day. Oh to be a grown up warrior... for now, he'd settle with becoming an apprentice. Anything other than kit. Frowning for a moment, he changed his mind. Being an elder might be worse, what with not being able to do anything anymore except complain about backpains and all sorts of aching.
He'd gotten distracted with his thoughts, but startled back into the present by Falconmoon's call. Catching his sister's gaze, he matched her managing smile with a toothy grin.
Once Falconmoon caught sight of the kit, he began. "Asterkit, step forward. You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time you became an apprentice. Your mentor will be Mistflower."
At last, Falconmoon continued. Finally.. The black-furred tom's tail flicked back and forth in anticipation, and he pinned the restless appendage under his paws. Hearing his name uttered by the deputy, Asterkit barely held in a muttered addition of "The Great." As he continued to listen to Falconmoon's words, his smile only grew bigger. Glancing at his sister once more, he nodded. "I'm ready."

And if the world don't break, I'll be shaking it...
Foxpaw didn't bother trying to hold in his whoop of excitement when Aster's new name was given. From his position near the back of the crowd, he hurried forward to run full-body into his best friend, rolling them both to the ground. He pinned Asterpaw beneath his paws and purred, "Well, it took you long enough. I thought you'd never catch up." Foxpaw grinned down at him before stepping off and helping him back to his feet. "We gotta spar sometime. 'Grats, Asterpaw the Great."
Mistypaw trotted over after Foxpaw, trilling and affectionately headbutting her brother. She helped him up alongside Foxpaw. “We all made it!” she mewed excitedly. “The trio is back together!”
Mistflower gathered with her Clanmates for the meeting, as she did for most, lingering at the edges of the crowd--even here, safely surrounded by the rest of SkyClan, it was easiest to stay on the sidelines. An easy escape route if she somehow got overwhelmed.
That familiar rush of anxiety surged through her as her name was called to be a mentor. It wouldn't be the first time, but she still didn't consider herself suited to the task.
Hesitantly, realizing it was expected of her, she stepped forward and tried to give a smile. "Um... I'll do my best, Asterpaw. We'll start tomorrow, so you should probably take today to be with your friends and get settled in the apprentice's den."
