After a minor illness, Cloudjumper had been eager to get back to patrolling. The sky above was clear, the breeze warm as she padded from camp alongside the rest of the patrol. Leopardwind wasn't much older than her, and they'd both become warriors around the same time, having flown through apprentice training with ease. She wasn't about to let the mild illness she'd suffered derail that momentum.
"It feels nice to be out of camp finally. How've you been, Leopardwind?" Her voice still had a lingering rasp, but she was no longer coughing and not anywhere near as tired as she had been. The young calico stretched, bright green eyes taking in the golden grass that surrounded them, alert for signs of prey.
Leopardwind was glad to see Cloudjumper returning to patrols once more. It was never pleasant to have a warrior sick and stuck in Camp, especially not one as young and talented as Cloudjumper. She had breezed through her apprenticeship almost as quickly as he did, and he hoped she would not start to fall back. All warriors should strive to be the best they can for WindClan, and it was nice to have company as he did so.
"I have been well. I've recently received my first apprentice, and I am excited to see how Snakepaw's training goes." Strange, wasn't Snakepaw Cloudjumper's brother? He was essentially telling the other warrior that he was training her littermate. What a strange dynamic. The black tom turned his gaze to the moor, looking for signs of prey. "I am glad you're feeling better, Cloudjumper." He ignored the bit of rasp in her voice. Hopefully, it too would be gone in a day or two.
The scent of hares came to him, and he bid his temporary farewell to his patrolmate as he raced after his prey. The feeling of the wind in his fur was a pleasant and familiar feeling. Today's weather was so cool and serene, he hoped it lasted for the whole of Greenleaf. Leopardwind caught the kill the hare swiftly, and brought the large fresh-kill back to Cloudjumper with a proud shine in his eyes. He had to tilt his head back so that the hare's body did not drag in the dirt, and yet, though he was taller than most, the hare's legs still traced lines in the grass as he approached the she-cat. WindClan's fresh-kill pile would be full tonight.

"I missed his ceremony." She grumbled, ears flattening in a brief show of dismay at the realization. So focused she'd been on her training to really bond with most of her siblings, and then she'd gotten sick. "How is Snakepaw doing? Not giving you trouble, I hope?" It had taken her brother a longer time to become an apprentice, nearly as long as it had taken for Cloudjumper to complete her training entirely... But that wasn't Snakepaw's fault, surely. Leopardwind seemed as ambitious and driven as she was, so she was sure her brother was in good paws.
"I don't recommend getting sick, that's for sure. Being stuck in camp is so boring." She huffed. Leopardwind's attention shifted to the reason they were out here - a hare, and Cloudjumped decided it was time to find her own prey as well, though she kept an eye out for her clanmate just in case.
The brown pelt of another hare was quickly spotted, and Cloudjumper raced after it. Her sickness had not slowed her down much thankfully, and her fangs found the creature's throat with ease, cutting it off before it could squeal. The warrior turned toward her clanmate, pleased to see Leopardwind had also made a catch.
Cloudjumper has attempted to catch a hare for -2 ep. Catch successful.
"No, no trouble at all," Leopardwind replied breezily, "Quite the oppositite, in fact. I can tell he's your brother; you both have the seriousness and drive to be the best warriors you can be." His tail curled as he thought about his apprentice. Snakepaw was serious and straight to the point, something Leopardwind appreciated a great deal, but knew that sooner or later he'd have to teach his apprentice to have a bit more grace in his words. Or maybe the young tom would simply grow into it. His ear flicked at Cloudjumper's grumble. It was understandable; he, too, would hate it if he missed one of his sibling's ceremonies.
He offered the she-cat a sympathic smile as she complained about her sickness. He had been fortunate to never have had an illness last for more than a couple days at a time, but even then the short periods of time stuck within the camp walls was enough to drive him mad.
As he returned with his catch, and Cloudjumper with hers, a small purr rose up in his throat. WindClan was blessed to have such eager, young warriors as its future. Snakepaw would no doubt make a good warrior as well, and his siblings would also be major assests to WindClan. A small pang of hurt sank in his chest as he was briefly reminded of Moosepaw. They had yet to find his sister's body, and he wondered where she was now. Was she alive, or was she now hunting among the stars? He hoped fate would be kind to her, wherever she may be.
Leopardwind's words brought a smile to Cloudjumper's face. "That's good. I think he'll catch up pretty quickly if he's as driven as us." She couldn't say the same of a few of her siblings as much as she loved them, but Snakepaw seemed determined from what Leopardwind had told her. "I should spend more time with Snakepaw... The rest of the family too probably." She admitted. She'd been so focused on training as an apprentice there had been little room for anything else. Now though, she was a warrior with more freedom. Responsibility too, but if she was fulfilling her duties she could afford to take breaks to spend time around them.
Leopardwind could understand Cloudjumper's comment on her family. He, too, had neglected much bonding with his littermates due to his constant training as an apprentice. And now that both Quickpaw and Moosepaw was missing... a bitter wave of regret and shame rippled over him. Perhaps, if he had been less strict with his own training, and pushed to spend more time with his siblings, neither of them would have gone missing. If he had stayed by their side, made sure that they were safe, instead of recklessly thinking about himself-- the black tom closed his eyes and took a deep breath. There was no reason to go over what-ifs. If StarClan willed it, both his sisters would eventually return home. If they did not... well, he didn't know what to think. Surely, StarClan would not be that cruel.
"Why don't you join us for a training session sometime? I'm not all that experienced at being a warrior, so surely there must be some places you can add on to? And I'm sure Snakepaw would be glad to have you around," Leopardwind suggested casually. He wished he was given a similar chance to assist in his sibling's training and ensure that they were in good paws, but none of them seemed willing or eager to have him around. Which, honestly, was quite sad. He just wanted the best for them, why couldn't they see that?
Oh, tagging along with their training? Cloudjumper had been almost hesitant to ask, but her eyes seemed to light up with excitement at the idea
"That could be fun." Cloudjumper mewed, "Get to spend time with him, help teach him maybe. We both went through apprentice training pretty quickly, but I bet our mentors had very different teaching styles. Could be a learning opportunity as well. Not that I'd step on your toes as his mentor, of course."
"I try to have my own style of mentoring," Leopardwind said flatly. Not that Rapidfire's teaching methods hadn't been good, but he wanted to be more... strict. Efficient. As if aware that his earlier tone might have come across a bit rude and, in a softer tone, he mewed, "But you're right; we were taught differently. I'd appreciate having another cat around to cross-check my information, or add on to where I might have missed something. And don't worry about coming across too strong or anything-- we all have something to learn from this."
The black tom flicked his ear as realisation set in. He smiled sheepishly as he added, "Now, why don't we get back to our hunt? Can't return with only one catch in the middle of Greenleaf..."
