Minkkit's Apprentice Ceremony

It was often that Acornstar was asked to do apprentice ceremonies - Sageroot has proven herself to be everything that the leader had hoped in a deputy - but she had felt under the weather... Nothing to be concerned over, but it was still not worth asking her to leave her nest for an apprentice's ceremony of all things. "Let all cats safe from the brambles' thorn, gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan Meeting!" she called out, tail swishing as she took her seat and waited for everybody to gather.

Flurrykit was excited. He was six moons old! He could be an apprentice any day now! Of course, that also meant that his siblings were also of the same age and it was hard to know who would be getting their ceremony first. They all deserved it, and it raised the question of who their mentors would be. He wasn't sure who he wanted - obviously he and his siblings were worthy of being the apprentices of Sageroot or Acornstar or any of the other highly respected cats in the Clan... But he would also feel bad for them - because what use was a mentor to him and his siblings when they would no doubt excel in whatever they were taught? It was a formality at most and surely it would be the easiest apprentices for them to train...Ever but it still felt almost a waste of their time - honestly, he and his siblings would be fine enough without mentors!

...He was left to wonder thought if any of them would get their mom - that would be pretty awesome...

Minkkit was quick to answer the call. Six moons! Today could be the day! Tiny black paws tapped anxiously as she waited for the confirmation she was sure would come.

Acornstar smiled softly at the sight of the two kits among the crowd, thought she knew Flurrykit would have to wait a tad longer before he got his mentor. Not much longer, at least - but still, the ceremony was sadly for his sister. "I've called you all here to all celebrate our kits reaching six moons old," she meowed, swishing her tail as she swept her gaze over the crowd. "While Sageroot didn't feel quite up to it, I'm happy to take her place for today to do this - Minkkit, please step forward." Giving a few heartbeats for her to do so, she dipped her head to the soon-to-be apprentice with a smile. "Minkkit, you have reached the age of six moons which means you are now known as Minkpaw and I shall be your mentor. I will teach you everything you know and make sure you reach your top potential as a warrior," she finished as she hopped down to touch noses with Minkpaw. "We'll start your training tomorrow."

Flurrykit couldn't hide his disappointment that his sister was being named before him, his ears slicking back a little with a soft huff. He knew his litter would be separated briefly - it was just how things happened but there was the hope that he would get his name first... And for her to get Acornstar of all cats as her mentor! He glanced over at Minkpaw, but the jealous in his chest quickly fell away as he stared at his sister and couldn't fight the pride that swelled in its stead. So what if Minkpaw was an apprentice a tiny bit before him? When he got his name, he would prove himself just the same and together they would be the best apprentices the Clan had ever seen! Their mentors barely mattered, even if it was an honor to have Acornstar as hers' - they would excel no matter who they would get.

Minkpaw couldn’t help her jaw dropping a little. Training with Acornstar, of all cats? “It’s an honor, ma’am,” she finally choked out. After the customary nose-touch, she turned and brushed her flank against Flurrykit. “Can’t wait till we’re all apprentices, bro,” she mewed.
