Unjust Punishment

Hickorypaw grumbled as he made his way back into camp with fresh kill in his mouth and on his back. It had been a long day and he just wanted to sleep. He quickly dropped the prey off at the pile and turned to run to the apprentice den, but his mentor was standing right in front of the den with a stern glare. He turned and grabbed the rabbit he caught earlier and dragged it to the elder’s den.

“I’m here to deliver food and pluck ticks.” He hissed as he entered the den. It was empty except for one cat laying alone in her nest. She must not have heard the young apprentice as she didn’t move when he called out ‘Please be dead so I don’t have to do this!’ Hickorypaw thought as he moved closer.

He was a mouse length away and she still didn’t seem to be moving and a flicker of hope crossed Hickorpaw’s face. “Are you alright?” He mewed as he gave a firm shove to the older molly’s shoulder.
