Gold is in our blood

Knowing one's territory was the most basic skill of any Clan cat, regardless of their ranks. As such, it was only natural that the first task he complete with his apprentice was a thorough tour around the territory. He'd go through the best hunting spots and training areas, which Snakepaw would use often in the future, as well as the dangers and rabbit holes that may be missed by any ignorant bypasser. Leopardwind waited at the camp entrance for his apprentice, tail flicking back and forth as he waited for Snakepaw's arrival. It was Sunhigh, the agreed upon time for their first trip out of camp. The warrior had trust that the white tom would not be late for his task, but trust could be easily broken as well. First impression mattered a great deal, and how well Snakepaw performed today would determine how the rest of their time together went. This was as much an assessment as a tour. Leopardwind had already decided to keep an eye out for Snakepaw's ability to follow and understand instructions as well as think on his paws. If time allowed it, he might even hold a small challenge to test the young tom's observation skills.

At the exact time they'd agreed to meet, the brand new apprentice appeared, approaching as quiet as a feather on the wind. Today he'd woken with the name Snakekit, and now he'd be leaving camp for the first time as Snakepaw. Anticipation bubbled in his chest as he approached Leopardwind. "I'm ready." No hesitation, no unease. A soft breeze beckoned him into the moors, where he belonged. He was prepared to learn everything it and his mentor had in store for him.

OOC: we will go from Camp > Gorge > Flower Fields > Tunnels > Hidden Outcropping

Much to his delight, Snakepaw was exactly on time. In the future, he hoped the white apprentice would gain the habit of coming a little earlier, just because it gave other cats a good impression, and would give Snakepaw a little more time to prepare himself for the task. Leopardwind beckoned soundlessly for Snakepaw to follow him, and set out from the Camp.

The black tom had taken care to walk at a slower pace so as to allow his apprentice time to get used to the moorland as well as examine the territory. From time to time, he'd point out the bits of their land that gave them an advantage, in battle, hunting, or otherwise; the gentle rise and fall of small hills allowed them to have a good view over the entire territory while also forcing prey to slow down when running away as they climbed and descended the slopes, and the strong wind carried to them the scent of prey and predator alike while masking their own voices and pawsteps. It was always worth noting the position of the sun, so that one could blind their opponent by running the opposite of the sun's direction-- and hence forcing their enemy to be blinded by the sunlight as they looked for them.

But now, he paused, signalling for Snakepaw to stop as well. They had reached the end of the territory, marked by the land falling away sharply from under their paws and into the rushing torrent below. He gave Snakepaw a few moments to absorb in the sight, before speaking. "This is the Gorge. It belongs to WindClan, and is where we mark the border every day on border patrols. Beyond the Gorge is RiverClan. Should you spot any RiverClan cats crossing the border, the proper path of action to take would be to chase them off, but since you are still young and should not risk enterring a fight with a full-grown warrior, you may instead report the sighting to Rapidfire, Tigerstar, or myself." Leopardwind signalled for Snakepaw to gaze down at the river below. "It is extremely dangerous here, and should you fall into the Gorge, I, alongside all our clanmates, can not promise that we will be able to save you. As such, do take care when you're around the border."

Throughout their walk, Snakepaw could feel his eyes flashing about, taking in every new sight regardless of if Leopardwind commented on it or not. Somehow everything felt brighter out here, louder, more fragrant. If his brain wasn’t processing it all a tree-length a second, it might have been overwhelming. His heart thrummed with something rare: excitement. Though his face stayed blank, the appearance of something new thrilled him. He noted every interesting object or place for him to come back to later, to experience for himself what they had to offer more fully.

After a time he couldn’t tell felt long or short, Leopardwind stopped at an impassable wound in the land, a deep cut down to the rocky bone with water gushing and spraying and crashing into it. If he hadn’t stopped by his mentor’s side, the sound of it could’ve easily muffled the tom’s words. ‘This is the border with RiverClan? I can hardly smell them over this.’ Even a blind kit would know this place was dangerous. “They will not escape my sight. But, you don’t mean to say that some cats actually try to cross here?” If someone succeeded in the leap he’d find them both incredibly lucky and stupid. And a pain to deal with, seeing as chasing them in to their demise would easily cause a diplomatic pain in the tail. Maybe, though, someday he’d be able to convince some RiverClan cats to divulge some of their Clan’s secrets. Just in case RiverClan and WindClan’s relationship ever soured. Not that he wished it to, but… information was a resource. And he would lap up whatever he could find.

Leopardwind's whiskers twitched at Snakepaw's question. That was a good question, and though he hadn't seen any cat jump over the gorge, he supposed it wasn't all that far-fetched. "Some do, yes, mostly when RiverClan wants to try their luck at attacking WindClan. There's also a Twoleg bridge further down that some cats use when visiting for more... peaceful reasons." Now that his apprentice had viewed the gorge, and hopefully committed it to his memory, there was no point in lingering. "Come along," He mewed as he turned away, heading deeper into WindClan territory.

It didn't take long for him to find his way to the flower fields. Bright blooms danced in the wind all around them, butterflies fluttering between the colourful flowers like petals in the wind. He personaly wasn't a huge fan of the field, but many of his clanmates seemed to enjoy the flowers. Perhaps Snakepaw would like it, though the warrior had a feeling that the apprentice would miss the point of having something colourful to look at, much as he had. "This is the Flower Field. It's, well, full of flowers. It’s home to a rabbit Warren that spans into the rest of the territory." There really wasn't much else to add to it. "...Try not to crush too many flowers underpaw when passing by, many in the Clan have taken quite a liking to them."
