In a Land Far Far Away

Happens after Spruce and Hawk have been swept away by the flood and river happening in the Sitewide)


Sprucebark had settled into the fox nest, his entire body was shivering from the soaking water that had his pelt clinging to him.  The abandon nest had been an incredible find, any longer exposed and he would be in serious trouble especially with the sun setting late into the evening and the colder and colder nights that now were occuring.

He was soon passed out asleep exhausted from all the chaotic events.  He was scared, how would he get back home... did he even have a home anymore and what about all his clanmates and familiy and friends.  He was so completly exhausted and drained that he soon fell asleep regardless of how worried he was for them.

The next thing he knew he heard pawsteps from outside, his heart raced as he lifted his head up a couple inches from the ground ... the foxes! they were back?? They would not be pleased to find him in their nest... and he was so exhausted he could not run or fight them off.  This was it he thought scared, this is the end.

But when he sniffed at the air a familiar and oh so welcome scent filled his nose.  

"Hawkshriek" he called out his voice horse and cracking.

as his cousin entered the den Sprucebark had never been so relived in his life, he wasn't alone! Hawkshriek curled up against him for warmth as both of them were very cold from the river and the cold air and soon they were both passed out for the night.  


It was not until late morning / midday that Sprucebark reawoke, he had slept in far beyond his normal but his body had very much so needed it.

His muscles ached but at least he was alive and mostly unharmed.  

He checked on his brother who seemed to still be asleep, seeing he was alright and not wanting to waken him he quielty stretched just outside the den and slowly woke up the rest of the way.  He began to realize just how hungry he was, it had taken alot of energy to keep himself from downing earlier.

He went to the rivers edge which was super close to the fox den so that Hawk would know where he was.

He sat patiently at the rivers edge and waited rememebring what Brookstone had taught him... "Patience little fishy that is the key to it all" he could almost here his old mentor talk and speak to him about fishing even now when he was so far from her.

He spotted a fish coming towards him, a nice fat looking one by the looks of it.  Eagerly he swiped his paw to try and catch it!

He caught it and pulled it to the sandy shore beside him.  He looked back at the water and felt a little uneasy by it, he had nearly died in this river earlier and now it was giving him a source of life in the form of food and new energy.  It really was a double edge thing.

He quickly thanked starclan for the catch and happily picked up the fat prize and trotted back to the den where his brother was.

"hey bro! I caught us some breakfast" he purred quietly in greeting as he put the fish down for them to share, it was big enough to and he knew that Hawk was probably just as tired and hungry and exhausted as he was.

as he munched on his half he was again so glad to have someone with him out here... wherever here was.

"Thanks for coming after me Hawk... it means alot, truly it does. the very formal and orderly tom mewed.

He looked around out the opening of their temporary den, "but... I dont really know where we are, this is pretty far out... I dont think we are even in the 5clans territory anymore.  We went pretty far south down the river.  I have never been this far out before" he admitted.

"I guess the only thing we can try is to just go upstream now?" he asked in a questioning voice, Hawkshriek was his older brother and a more senior warrior than he was, Hawk should have the final say on what course of action they did from here he suppose;  After all, Spruce was very much by the rules and so senior warriors to him were acting leaders when poppy or perch were not around.

Sprucebark was still pretty tired from all the swimming and fighting to stay alive from yesterday but his brother was right. Everyone was probably worried about them. They had to get back to their clan and fast! If others were in trouble as well Perchstar and Riverclan would need all the help and warriors that they could get.

Taking a deep breath and finishing his breakfast he went out of the den following after his older brother.

"Alright... lets do this thing!" he purred optimistically "No matter what we are both gonna get back. He was gonna make sure of it, his brother had so selflessly risked his life to go after him when Spruce got swept away. He was very glad to have someone else with him when he was this far from home. They were gonna make it right?

As he walked along next to his brother further and further upstream the damage from the flooding along side the river was evident, trees and branches all had been pilled up along the shore and it made the traveling a bit slow to have to climb and scurry around all of them. Piles of debris were all over the place but they were making steady progress.

A couple times, Sprucebark for sure had to slow down tired from it all. He took a break sitting down next to a rocky patch of smooth rounded stones next to the river. Looking at them all he remembered how his other siblings, Sandy and Olive liked to collect different shiny rocks as gifts. The idea of getting to see them again hopefully soon made him push onwards.

The morning slipped by turning into later and later afternoon. The sun cast long shadows as it dipped lower and lower into the sky. Sprucebark was getting a bit disheartened: how far had they been washed out?

The pairs patience and long while was about to pay off however, up ahead on the opposite side of the river, Sprucebark finally recognized part of Riverclan land. It was still a ways out in front of them but he knew where they were now. Still outside of Riverclan territory but within eyesight of their most far out hunting grounds.

"Hawkshriek look!" he pointed excitedly. His acheing legs and sore and split paw pads were ignored as he pushed forward very eager to be back home.

It was still gonna be another long hike back all the way to fourtrees, but at least they knew now for sure where they were.
