Hemlockfox snuffled through his herb stores, blue eyes icy and narrowed as he prepared for today's lessons. He'd spoken to Rapidfire the day before about pulling a couple of apprentices and warriors from their usual schedules in exchange for teaching them a bit about herbs. Unsurprisingly, the deputy herself expressed an interest in seeing what the fuss was all about, so he decided it would be alright if she joined in as well. It never hurt to have another cat who understood the basics, but she'd never be able to provide what he was looking for - an apprentice.
Rapidfire was a warrior and a good one at that to have been made Tigerstar's deputy so young - he knew she wouldn't be able to switch to the life of a medicine cat. These apprentices and younger warriors, however, might yet show some potential. He would never ask one of them to give up the life of a warrior unless they wanted to, of course, but if he could nurture any budding interest in his way of life, he would. So, with a sigh, Hemlockfox trotted out into the center of the camp where Rapidfire and the apprentices were waiting. "Good." He meowed, pleased.
Gently, Hemlockfox laid out the herbs he'd brought and eyed Rapidfire and the two apprentices she'd selected for today - Creampaw and Falconpaw. He doubted either were terribly excited for this and, frankly, couldn't blame them. "Seems like you're all ready." He muttered. "Any questions before we get started?" He'd rather avoid being interrupted during the lesson itself, so it was best to get any feather-brained nonsense out of the way as early as possible.

Wherever Rapidfire got the idea, she had no idea, but she did not in fact enjoy participating in herb lessons, let alone with her own mother hovering over her and a creep beside her. Did she really have to put Falconpaw in this lesson? That ear-obsessed freak needed to stay far, far away from her. Creampaw gingerly sat some distance away from Falconpaw, taking care to make sure that Rapidfire was between the two of them and that at no point would she have to make eye contact with that weirdo. She completely ignored Hemlockfox's voice-- it wasn't important anyway-- and instead focused on switching between glaring at Falconpaw and inspecting the musty leaves laid out before them. Why did she have to learn about these anyway? She wasn't StarClan's chosen to stay stuck in the medicine cat den and memorize a bunch of dusty smelly herbs.

Gonna make a heartthrob out of me...
Falconpaw didn’t mind the idea of herb lessons. It seemed like boring stuff, honestly, and he certainly held no interest in turning into Hemlockfox, but he didn’t mind it. It’d make him smarter (if he actually paid attention), and that in turn would probably make him more popular. Letting the cats who missed this lesson fawn over him was a nice fantasy to lose himself in momentarily.
But he could not linger there for long. He kept feeling Creampaw’s eyes boring through his pelt, and Hemlockfox’s voice was breaking through his thoughts. Falconpaw blinked and focused on the burly tom rather than daring to spare a glance at Creampaw. His eyes traveled down, briefly eyeing the piled herbs, before flicking up again. ”Nah,” he rumbled. ”I’m good to go, Hemlockfox.”
