The night was alive with the chirping of crickets and the occasional croak or screech of the nocturnal fauna. As the medicine cats neared Highstones however, the sounds slowly faded away as if nature itself didn’t dare be a distraction from the stars. A half moon shone brightly in the sky while stars glittered all around it. Tonight's medicine cat meeting held a renewed feeling of anticipation, just as the forest anticipated the fast approaching greenleaf.

PIGEONPOUNCE
Life gives you lemons...
Pigeonpounce expelled a breath as she mounted the rocks of Highstones. The journey felt even longer when she was walking alone. She was tired by the end of it, and with no one to distract her, her nerves had spent the last several hours festering. She was about ready to bolt from the mountains, but she forced herself to put one paw in front of the other. The half-moon shone brightly overhead, casting pale light over the stones and guiding her steps. Her first medicine cat meeting… Pigeonpounce sighed. Hopefully it went well, and the other medicine cats were kind.
To her surprise, there was no one else there when she arrived at the peak of Highstones. Cold anxiety dripped into her paws. Had she come on the wrong night--or was she late? Had the other medicine cats already descended through the tunnels without her? Pigeonpounce shifted nervously between paws. Surely, she hadn’t been first. She was never first to anything. But as she peered over the edges of the rocks, she could see other cats making their way up, so she forced herself just to sit down and wait.

It seems StarClan had specifically guided her path.
Sleepycloud hardly knew the path to the Highstones from RiverClan, yet alone from ThunderClan. Not to mention her injury that slowed her journey. But, once she spotted the pelt of Pidgeonpounce, the she-cat knew she was in the right spot. Relief flooded Sleepycloud, and she slowed to a stop by the other Medicine Cat, extending her aching leg out to the side. "Pidgeonpounce, how are you? How is mo-" She cleared her throat. "Poppystar?" Better to address her mother by her actual name. "I imagine the river is full of fish now. Stars, I miss it." Sleepycloud hummed, remembering how refreshing a fish was on a hot newleaf day.
Hemlockfox's journey was blessedly easy and as he ascended the bleak mountain slope, the shapes of two unfamiliar cats caught his eye. His eyes narrowed with distaste as he leapt nimbly up the familiar path, fluffy tail lashing. Both cats, RiverClan and ThunderClan by the smell of them, didn't look particularly impressive. He looked between the unfamiliar she-cats, uncertain, and cleared his throat, interrupting their conversation. "This place is for medicine cats. Where are Littlesplash and Fawnshine?" He meowed gruffly. They'd missed the last meeting too, now that he thought about it. Was something wrong in ThunderClan and RiverClan?
He'd been too busy to attend the last gathering too and, frankly, wouldn't have paid enough attention to notice even if he'd gone. "Are you both their new apprentices?" It seemed irresponsible to send them on their own. They couldn't possibly have anything worthwhile to contribute to the meeting much less any clue what to do.

After all these moons, still nothing had changed. Thymelight dreaded the idea of a medicine cat meeting, but she was still in attendance anyway. She had been given the privilege of missing the last one due to her pregnancy, but now she had no more excuses. This was her first meeting since Smokepetal's death, and she didn't want to have to explain what had happened to each of the cats in attendance, especially Hemlockfox. She was quiet as she approached the group, but it seemed like the usual group had changed quite a bit. Still, she said nothing. If any of them were truly curious then they would have to start the conversation first.
