June Medicine Cat Meeting 06/20/18

Goldeneye stood strong and tall at the mouth of mothermouth, the heat and humidity making her fur crackle with static. It had gotten hot quickly, and it was almost unbearable! Goldeneye was forced to dip into the rivers and streams on her territory before continuing her work, the young medicine cat was born and raised in the heart of leaf-bare, only ever knowing the cold in her life, so now that it was warming and quickly Goldeneye was melting and in a constant bad mood.

Goosepaw made the trek up to the Mothermouth, panting slightly. It was hot. So hot. One of the apprentices had passed out because of it, and all he could do was drag them into shade and try to get them up again. Of course, this felt weak, but he was terrified to do anything drastic. He was just an apprentice trying to keep his Clan safe. The young tom arrived at his destination, giving Goldeneye a respectful nod. She had agreed to train him up some, since Featherlight was dead and he didn’t have a mentor. He sat down and settled his tail around his paws, keeping his yellow gaze fixed on the ground. He hated interacting with cats. It was terrifying. His anxiety kept him from looking up as his paws fidgeted slightly in the heat. This was petrifying. He couldn’t shake the feeling that the other cats would laugh at him for some reason or another.

Rainpaw had been buzzing with energy. He could barely keep still waiting for any sort of cloud cover to come for his journey. But, the weather was only getting hotter, and hotter, hotter still... Okay... He'd just have to leave before it got any worse. He'd spare himself the misery leaving early. Besides, it would take a while to get all the way to Mothermouth. He finished up the remains of his mouse and grabbed one of the oak leaf-wrapped bundles he prepared the night before. Swallowing down the herbs, he took a last drink of water and then he was off. His long limbs helped him make the journey slightly quicker. Recent rain left cool patches on the ground where watery puddles were nothing but mostly dry ground now. He worried about another fire ravaging their territory but certainly, they wouldn't have one so soon, right? He wasn't born during that awful time but, if the forest was just now starting to heal and his parents had never seen the territory before the blaze, what could cause another violent blaze to scorch ground that still smelled of ash? When he got to WindClan, he lingered to look at the Gorge. He traveled along it rather than the traditional way to benefit from the waterfall's spray and avoid the humid confines of the Abandoned Barn. When he finally made it, he took a moment to catch his breath, flicking his tail in welcome. "It's a fine day StarClan's granted us, hm? Love the cool breeze..." He said sarcastically, letting out a heavy sigh and finding shade under a claw-shaped rock. He began grooming himself to cool down, stretching out on his side to avoid trapping any heat.

Mapleleaf couldn't help but giggle softly as she watched Rainpaw rush to the Moonstone to avoid the heat. She wasn't too far back but she did get there at a slower pace. She nudged a tired Rainpaw and nodded respectfully at Goldeneye and Goosepaw. She walked up to Goosepaw and looked around. "Where's Featherlight?" she asked sounding a bit worried. She wouldn't just abandon her apprentice. Maybe something terrible happened to her! Mapleleaf looked nervous. She couldn't bear to think what had happened to one of her good friends

Goldeneye looked to Goosepaw when Featherlight was mentioned, Goldeneye's brow furrowed with pity. Looking back up at Mapleleaf, the Thunderclan Medicine cat, she cleared her throat and spoke, "She's dead. I've taken Goosepaw's training under my wing until she can receive his full name." Goldeneye meowed stiffly, she wished she hadn't offered her services, but if training Goosepaw to be a great medicine cat would patch the wounds she helped create between her clan and Windclan then she'd push through. Looking past the Thunderclan she-cat she scanned the plains for Mintwhisker and her apprentice but not seeing either, nodding stiffly she got to her paws.

"Skyclan isn't here yet, but if you wish to wait be my guest, but I won't Lilly-dally. There's plenty of news to be heard." Goldeneye meowed, she desperately hoped she'd get some help from her ancestors about the midnight sun. Dipping into the significantly cooler tunnels, she let the well-worn paths guide her, the familiar curves and twists of the tunnel cradling her into a false sense of comfort. Soon, the winding tunnels opened up, revealing the un-lit moonstone before her, impatience dogged at the Riverclan Medicine Cats paws as she briskly paced at the bottom of the stone. Thankfully it was not long before it lit up and Goldeneye padded forwards, laid down, and rested her nose against the stone, falling into a slumber almost as soon as her head hit her paws.

When she got to her paws her head was on a swivel, searching for the ancient Starclan cat, but she was nowhere to be found, she jutted her jaw, her tail lashing with frustration. But soon, a brown she-cat with a light cream splash on her chest padded forwards, her eyes widening... Sweet. Goldeneye dipped her head, all frustration melting away, she wished that she got to know her better, she had always admired the she-cat for her sense of righteousness. "What have you come to tell me Sweet?" Goldeneye meowed, watching the range of emotion fight for dominance on the she-cats face.

Sweet smiled softly at Goldeneye, though the turmoil she was trying to hide was flitting around behind the facade she had erected. "My son

Goosepaw gave a small, sad smile when Mapleleaf asked about his mentor. He was grateful that Goldeneye answered for him, because he really didn’t want to have to talk about her, seeing as he still grieved. The RiverClan medicine cat soon dipped into the tunnels. Where were SkyClan and ShadowClan? Was something wrong? He hoped there wasn’t. He gave a tiny shrug and lifted his gaze from the ground, and with his tail between his legs and his ears flattened nervously, the small tom crept into the tunnels to visit the Moonstone. Maybe he would get some important information? No, he didn’t really want to talk to anyone. At all. Ever. Not his Clanmates - well, maybe Fernwing or Spiderfur.

'StarClan Revelation' :

Rainpaw followed the others into Mothermouth and blinked back as he saw the light of the Moonstone. He didn't touch his nose to the stone, his brain far too full of thoughts to even think about adding more to them. Where was Silentpaw at? Or Mintwhisker? Had something happened to them? Sure, ShadowClan still was not on very good terms with ThunderClan but SkyClan was somewhat of an ally. Regardless, he wasn't ready to have some cat plucking off the clan's medicine cats.

Mintwhisker hurried towards Mothermouth, muttering an apology as she went. She had lost track of time thinking about...
everything. Rippedstar, Poplarstar, Crowstar... now, her grandfather was going to take up the mantle as Skyclan's leader. Although a younger Mintwhisker would've had complete faith in Tinylegs, the deaths of no less than three different leaders had made her much more cynical. She could only hope that he would do Skyclan justice.
The short-legged she-cat pushed her way through the tunnels, her murky green eyes reflecting the light that shone from the Moonstone.
Please, please give me good news... The last few prophecies had shaken her, and whispers of murder, codes, forbidden love, and deep, cold terror plagued her dreams. That was why her paws shook when she approached the shining stone, pressing her nose to it and immediately cringing away. She shook herself, trying to calm her nerves. It couldn't be that bad, right?

Mapleleaf frowned but said nothing else. She felt a painful pang in her heart as she remembered how caring and admired Featherlight was. She would miss her dearly. The sand-tabby was shaken out of her thoughts when she realized she had already settled down in front of the Moonstone. The she-cat wasted no more valuable time and pressed her nose to the cold stone. She hoped for news that was at least okay.
